2010 Fusion Sport 0-60 & 1/4 times on AWD? I want to compare to 3.0L Fusion FWD.

So, anyone have 0-60 & 1/4 times for the 3.5L AWD or FWD Fusion Sport?

How bout SEL 3.0L FWD?


Here in Canada, the Sport Fusion comes with AWD ONLY! Now I was told it gets poorer gas mileage & is a little slower than the FWD model in the USA. Is this true?

Anyone have pics of the exterior SPORT only extras? (side skirts)


Thinking about getting either the SEL 3.0 or SPORT AWD. :shift:

There's a couple of videos on YouTube of a guy timing his 0-60s and another 0-100 times in a Fusion Sport but you don't know if it's FWD or AWD. Just do a search for 2010 Ford Fusion Sport and you will find them on the first page or two. There's also a video of a guy on a test track enjoying a Sport and you can hear the motor which sounds cool but there are no details other then he likes it. I'll bet the 3.5 with the AWD is still quicker then the stock 3.0 with FWD because the final drive ratio is the same for FWD and AWD in the Sport with the 3.5 at 3.16:1 so no penalty for AWD in that regard. (The 3.0 in the SEL is 3.46:1 ratio) Equip both cars the same with options, spoiler, 18" wheels etc and I find about a $1000 U.S. difference in price between the 3.0 and 3.5 motors. I'm just glad that here in the US we are not forced to buy AWD to get the Sport 3.5

I found this and thought it was an interesting read:

"It should come as no surprise that the Sport model proved to be the most fun to drive. It offers tire-spinning power accompanied by a growling soundtrack. Ford told us not to expect the EcoBoost version of this engine under the hood of any Fusion any time soon, but we aren’t sure we believe them. That said, this mythical high-performance Fusion will absolutely need all-wheel-drive; the Sport’s 263 ponies way overpower the front wheels.
Ford set up a nice autocross course to show off the Fusion’s handling; but what it best illustrated was that the Sport is positively overpowered for a front-wheel-drive vehicle. We were able to get our best autocross times out of the entry-level four-cylinder.

That four-banger is not only more powerful and more refined than its 0.2-liter-smaller predecessor, it’s more efficient. Ford predicts a rather wild 6 mpg gain on the highway, putting it at a class-leading 34 mpg or more, pending EPA testing. That gain comes as a result of engine and aero tuning, as well as an in-house-developed six-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed fired off smooth shifts but hunted for gears under aggressive driving. Again, most Fusions won’t see an autocross course, so we think it’s a great on-road setup.

Well, what I was thinking of doing was either:

getting the 3.5L AWD

OR

getting the SEL 3.0L & getting the dealer to install all the after math side skirts. (these are available at Ford dealers) I reall y like that look!

Regardless of which one I get, I want to add dual exhaust (flowmaster?) for that growl! I love that! I understand that the 2010 Fusions have a 2-1-2 exhaust. Can the AWD 3.5L Fusion accommodate true dual exhaust?

I think the 2 into 1 into 2 exhaust system is hard to beat (performance wise). I have that on my 2009 Harley and many guys consider true duals but find it hard to achieve the performance level attained by the stock headers. That somehow offers better scavenging of the pipes etc and achieves the best performance. Of course on the Harley you can easily change the mufflers to sound of choice too. Anyway, I like the sound I head in some of the YouTube videos.

If you're going to go through the trouble and expense of adding the rocker panels, I would definitely just consider getting the Sport to start with. But that's just me.

The Sport Rockers are $400 each unpainted... :(

I have an SEL and want them because they make a big difference but that is too much!

I just got the 2010 Sport FWD. However the claim of it being overpowered is bull. I can throttle up out of a turn and get very little to no torque stear. Look at some of the cars that people have been puting more power in for years. If these honda civics from the 90s can handle the 300 + hp people put in them than the well enginered fusion can handle the 263 hp. I would recomend to any one the FWD Sport. I love it and I'm sure most will. As for the car not hitting the right gear under aggresave driving, thats true but its your job put it in manual mode and do it yourself. The Fusion is not like some cars that shift for you if you forget that your in manual. It will let you know though when your head hits the stearing wheel from tacing out that gear.

Someone on another Fusion site posted a timeslip of a stock AWD Sport 1/4 mile run. He ran a 15.754 @ 87.71 mph.

That guy must not be able to drive well, because car and driver posted a time of 15.5 at 91 mph in the sel V6 3.0. That being said I hope my sport can do a little better than that.

Here's a link to a comparison test Malibu 2LT V6, Sonata Limited V6, Accord V6 EX-L, Mazda 6 s Grand Touring, and a Fusion Sport on Edmunds:

They rank the Fusion #1! they also report a 0-60 of 6.7, tied with a Malibu. The Malibu is 5th. For some reason it's very difficult to get to this review thru any of the Edmunds pages and there are no tables with the test results summarized. This is the first actual 0-60 test I've seen.

It's an automatic... floor gas pedal, take a nap for 15.7 seconds, reach end of quarter mile.

That's pretty lame though. My 92 Taurus with a worn out clutch and half a liter less can do better. 15.2@92mph. Good to know if I meet up with the Sport I see on my daily commute at times can be taken down. :shift:

I have bought a 2010 Fusion SPORT AWD. I live in Canada and the AWD is why I chose Ford over all the rest. Here are a few reasons the AWD SPORT is a must in this car.

1 - 3.5 L Engine is more powerful and more throaty than the 3.0 L (worth every penny)
2 - Canadian winters (the snow will fly very soon)
3 - no peeling of tires
4 - NO TORQUE STEER
5 - The trim is awesome and brings the whole car up a notch and gets noticed

Reason #4 is currently the most important reason for me.

I had owned a Nissan Maxima for a few years with 265 HP and, while I loved that car, it was simply too much power on front tires. Horrible jump off the line peeling tires too easily and a struggle to hold on a line. My buddy bought it about 6 months ago, and just a week ago we punched it side by side at a light. My heavier Fusion completely demolished it (only hit the speed limit of 70 kph however). Straight as an arrow and I could focus on the road rather than the steering wheel and the "chirp chirp" of his intermittant peeling of his performance tires.

I too wonderend if the AWD would affect the power, but that one test ended all debate for me on the benefits of AWD.

I wouldn't buy a rear wheel drive living in Canada, but really didn't appreciate the torque steer a FWD provides everytime off the line (why do you think Audi's Quattro is so famous?). Totally happy with the AWD and the snow has yet to fly... I'm gonna love it even more once that happens!!

As you already know, Moter Trend named the Fusion COTY. The had the Sport AWD at 15.2 through the quarter.
