Funny ! I have owned japanese cars since 1984, up untill I put my money in the Fusion. My previous Ford car was a 1975 Pinto.

We were pleasantly surprises the Sport AWD drives very similar to Hondas in terms of the controlled ride and the sporty handling. The interior is very confortable and it's fast! Only typical Honda things we miss are the folding mirrors, the simpler wiper controls, the separate external mirror heat switch, the internal gas door release, and the better door closing sound.
Yes I 2nd that Ford hit it out of the park. Not sure why I don't see more of them around still.

...and good luck with both your new Fusion and "classic" Accord Wagon. Unfortunately ours needed some work that we couldn't justify knowing what it was worth. It is a great car nevertheless, and cool not seeing them on every corner like regular Accords.
We were planning to replace it in the next year anyway, and we wanted AWD because of the winters up here. (the Wagon was decent in the snow with 4 snow tires)

Interesting to hear. I've owned Accords and Civics. I've had a 300whp/250lbs of torque civic that was just too much for a fwd car...then I had the 03 4cyl accord, very nice and worked great for family reasons. After that, I had the 07 Si Sedan, very nice also...great sport feeling to it with good mpg.
Now I'm stuck between getting a 05 WRX, 08+ Accord (4cyl) and the Ford Fusion. (I'm in Japan right now, military...trying to decide what I'll get when I return to the states)
When you say you test drove every car in it's class...did you by chance test drive an accord...v6 or 4cyl?
I'm aiming at sticking with a 4cyl for better mpg. The fusion looks like a nice car, it's hard for me to say that since it's a Ford! lol...no offense meant to hardcore Ford owners.
The fusion is looking good though. The interior is a far step above what I've seen in most Fords. I'm just wondering how the handling is...wish I could test it out now.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the Ford's quality. My last Ford was a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 (my first new car) which was a piece of junk. My last six new cars have been Volvos and I have watched their quality decline under Ford ownership. So it has surprised me that with over 6K miles on the car in two months, I have had no reason to bring it back to the dealer for anything - not even a rattle! I guess you could also call me a convert! I am also enjoying 28mpg on the trips to/from Las Vegas.
