I've been (over)posting here for the last few days as I stressed out while the dealer hunted down my Fusion for me.

Just picked up my silver SEL V6 last night (couldn't find a gray one to spec).

Drove it to work this morning. I'm still a pretty young guy so I had to wring it out a little. This thing has some serious go for a relatively small V6. Best part is I still managed 25mpg for the trip...same as my wife's 4-banger CRV over the same stretch, and this thing's not even broken in yet. I'll bet I could average 30+mpg on the interstate, easily. Very happy.

Picked up the premium ESP plan, 6yr/75K for $900 or so (talked down from mid-1000s). Maybe I'm a sucker but peace of mind is nice. I can always cancel it.

You do realize that you only get an extra 1 year and 15K miles worth of powertrain coverage (the really expensive stuff)? The factory powertrain coverage is already 5/60.

At least you get 3 yrs and 29K B2B coverage. I hope you financed the $900. If you can afford to pay for a big repair every now and then you can save money by insuring yourself.

I hope you'll enjoy your new car and won't be fretting about the transmission. Congratulations :)

Congrats on your purchase of the SEL V6...When I first started driving mine ( I got the grey SEL V6 you wanted ) , I was getting an avg. of 23 mpg. I'm getting an avg of 28 mpg....I drive both highway & city 50/50 split....Of course I (babied it ) for the first 1000 miles & drove light/moderate until 4000 miles. Now I'm gettin' on it alot & seen my avg. drop to 24.....THIS CAR IS STRAIGHT UP FAST!!!!! HOLD ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL, THERE IS A LITTLE TORQUE STEER.....As for the warranty....If that gave you piece of mind, then it was worth it.

I have to ask the V6 owners a question. I have the I-4 with a 6 speed manual. If I give the car more than 1/2 throttle from a standing start, The front tires break loose and the traction control immediately kicks in. (I turn of the ESC when I know I need to get going quickly) I can't imagine a V6 not spinning the wheels from a standing start either without traction control kicking in. Does that happen to you V6 people?

Not on my 06 3.0L but that's due to 2 factors: electronic throttle control and automatic tranny with torque converter. Even if you nail the throttle, ETC won't open it immediately. You can get around that with a manual by waiting until the engine revs up to drop the clutch. And with an auto the torque converter takes just a bit to spool up and transfer torque compared to a directly engaged manual.

You could probably do it if you brake-torque (hold the brake and accelerate, then lift off the brake).

I wonder if shutting off the traction control might result in a squeek...

As for the warranty, the reason I got it was partly due to all the nick-nacks on the SEL. There's just more to break on these. I've heard of people paying over twice as much for the premium ESP plan. Again, I could cancel. Perhaps part of my hesitance is due to some lingering remnant of my old anti-domestic biases. I'm only human.

If the warranty gives you peace of mind, then it was well worth it. Good luck with your car and Welcome.
