JPford Posted May 18, 2017 Share Posted May 18, 2017 Hey guys, new to the forum. I have a 2010 Fusion Sport AWD. It has about 81000 miles on it. I was driving to my sisters a couple hours away yesterday, when I started getting a vibration from what felt like the front passenger side wheel area. Sounds almost like I have a flat tire or running over widely spaced rumble strips. I can feel it too. I first noticed it while slowing to take a turn and thought it was the brakes, but it cleared up and my brakes felt fine, so I went on to my sisters thinking I had ran over some dirt in the road or something. I noticed it a couple more times on the way there, each time while braking. When I got to my sisters I checked my brakes thoroughly. No leaks, no excessive heat at the calipers, nothing loose. I decided to drive it home and try to diagnose it. I noticed that it does it while slowing, whether I'm braking or not. (coasted up some hills). It starts as soon as it slows to about 33 mph, and continues until about 25 mph and as the speed declines so does the speed of the vibration. It only does it while slowing, not while accelerating, and it does it whether I'm in drive or neutral. Oh, and it doesn't do it while it's cold. You have to drive it about 10 to 15 minutes to get it to do it. Any suggestions? JPford Posted May 19, 2017 Author Share Posted May 19, 2017 Thanks for the help, but I figured out what it is. I took it for another drive and realized that it sounded like it was coming more from the center of the car, not the passenger front. Long story short, the carriage bearing for the rear driveshaft is bad and the driveshaft is knocking the bottom of the car. I've read that I can't just replace the bearing, that I have to replace the entire driveshaft. drolds1 Posted May 19, 2017 Share Posted May 19, 2017 It's "carrier bearing." This a known issue with AWD Fusions/Milans/MKZs of this generation. There are a few discussions here on this. Here's one.
