kbwhitaker
2013 Ford Fusion 2.0L Ecoboost SE Hey everyone. First post here. Just joined however I have been using this forum for a while now anytime I run into some trouble and its always been helpful. Hoping someone might know what is going on here. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. The other day i started the car and a bunch of lights came on the dash, warnings and I noticed the steering was tougher (loss of electric/power steering) I thought the issue might be in relation to the restraint control module recall but this was completed and did not fix the issue. The following lights are on and warnings display: Warnings: - Hill Start Assist Not Available - Check Rear Park Aid - Service AdvanceTrac Lights On: I have also included a picture of the dash - ABS - Air Bag - Traction Control - StabiliTrac (I assume) Edited January 5, 2017 by kbwhitaker
akirby
If you haven't done so recently I would try replacing the battery. In newer vehicles batteries often go bad after 3 years or so and can cause strange symptoms. And even if that isn't it you shouldn't have to worry about the battery for another 3 years.
kbwhitaker
I have never replaced the battery in this car. Sorry if this is a dumb question but if it was a bad battery wouldn't the car not start or have issues starting?
eGuru
Is the warranty still in effect? I suspect you have an ICC failure or module communication issue. Do you have a scantool and FORSCAN?
kbwhitaker
Yes warranty is still in effect. Unfortunately I do not have a scantool. I just made an appointment for tomorrow with the dealership to get a scan done on it, hopefully something will come up on that scan.
akirby
It is possible for the battery to be strong enough to start the car but too weak to run everything properly. Maybe not likely but possible and it's a $100 fix which you'll most likely have to spend within the next year anyway.
andyross
I'm guessing that the voltage may drop too much overnight and cause memory corruption and/or drops too much during cranking. You can see about getting a voltage meter you can plug into a 12V outlet, and check it in the morning before starting the car.
kbwhitaker
Update: They did a diagnostic and it states code C0034 -- right front speed sensor. The tech inspected everything and it looks fine so they swapped it out but the code remains. Was hoping it was going to be as easy as replacing a speed sensor but looks to be something more complicated now. They are continuing to look at it.
akirby
Did they check the tone ring?
kbwhitaker
Did they check the tone ring? Not that i am aware of.
akirby
The tone ring can break and that causes the sensor to report incorrect speeds. Should be easy to check yourself.
kbwhitaker
The tone ring can break and that causes the sensor to report incorrect speeds. Should be easy to check yourself. I just looked it up, seems real easy to check. I will check it tonight. The car is scheduled to go back in early next week to finish up the troubleshooting / repair. They were quite busy today and just fit me in to start looking at it.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
If the tone ring is compromised, you will likely have to change the axle to change the TR. Not available separately.
JohnInOttawa
2013 Ford Fusion 2.0L Ecoboost SE Hey everyone. First post here. Just joined however I have been using this forum for a while now anytime I run into some trouble and its always been helpful. Hoping someone might know what is going on here. The other day i started the car and a bunch of lights came on the dash, warnings and I noticed the steering was tougher (loss of electric/power steering) I thought the issue might be in relation to the restraint control module recall but this was completed and did not fix the issue. The following lights are on and warnings display: Warnings: - Hill Start Assist Not Available - Check Rear Park Aid - Service AdvanceTrac Lights On: I have also included a picture of the dash - ABS - Air Bag - Traction Control - StabiliTrac (I assume) I had this exact same issue arise on my 2013 Fusion in late Dec '16. I ran an OBD2 scan and it pinpointed the left front wheel speed sensor.( C0031 Left Front Wheel Sensor ) The scan also brought back SRS code B00A0 Occupant Classification System ( Subfault ) I assume this is why my air bag light was on. ( not sure how it's tied to the wheel sensor?) When I attempted the repair, I found out the there was a break in the sensor wiring harness on the car side, not the sensor side. The sensor was indeed still good, the break was upstream from where the sensor plugs into the main vehicle harness. I spliced and soldered the wire, then used heat shrink tube to seal it. I turned the engine on and all of the warning lights were OFF. My steering was nice and light again too. The dealer wanted $125 to diagnose the problem and probably would have charged another hour labour to fix it. The front left wheel sensor is $25 CDN for the Ford part and very, very easy to change for those who are curious. Check for breaks in the wiring harness first before buying a new sensor. If you are buying a scan tool, buy one that does ABS + SRS for your car. I hope this post contributes to your successful repair. kbwhitaker
Thanks for all the input guys! Finally got the car back in today for repair and it turned out to be exactly what JohnInOttawa stated. The front passenger side speed sensor wire harness needed to be replaced due to a break in a wire. Unfortunately the speed sensor wire harness was not covered under extended warranty so my final bill (with tax) from my local ford dealership here in New Brunswick, Canada was $299. Jennifer
My car was also having the same exact issues. Took it to Krapohl’s in Mt. pleasant they scanned it and it took about an hour to fix there was a broken/corroded left front wheel speed sensor wire about six inches above the plug on car side. They only charged me $98 to fix. All is well now.
dmtaurus
I was having the same exact display warnings. Here is what I did. I lifted the hood and reached over the engine and pulled aside the C1463B cable from under the transmission housing and found the hidden problem. (This is one of three separate wire cables that connect to the power steering module that is mounted on the rack.) The cable had become detached from the harness clip on the steering rack and the harness rubbed against the transfer case until it wore thru to both copper wires. The wear was about 3/4" long. So I spliced, soldered, and put heatshrink over the wires along with new cable flex tubing. Next, I secured the cable with plastic cable ties so that the harness doesn't move and rub against anything again. A long test drive yielded no more warning lights. I think the problem is fixed. I did check the VIN for Ford recalls and this particular car was not on the list. I added the harness image with a circle and crude arrow showing the approximate location were the wear was on the harness.
HolyRoller
Had a similar issue with my '15 Fusion 2.5L. Was the electric power steering rack.
firewire
I had the same problem and same solution. The code was rf sensor and the sensor wire was rubbed up in the conduit away from the sensor. Dealership diagnosed and repaired, and explained that the air bag and blind spot sensor and cruise were not working because computer was confused by improper data input. Sounds like there should be a service bulletin on this issue. once repaired all lights out and everything works again.
