Bret Cummins
I have a 2006 Ford Fusion SEL V6 that had a stock 6 CD radio in it and I recently updated it to a Ford navigation system and now the media steering wheel controls don't work. Any thoughts?
Bret Cummins
pI've done some research and was wondering if I'd have to get an adaptor like a PAC SWI-CP5
eGuru
In another post, didn't you indicate that the replacement unit came out of something other than a Fusion? So the connectors seemed to be physically compatible, and you are able to drive the speakers but you can't control the unit from the steering wheel buttons? The problem may be just related to differences in the pin-out for the steering wheel buttons but you need to get some wiring diagrams for the donating vehicle as well as your own to check for the differences. The issue may also be due to different resistance values used in the steering wheel interface. Normally, steering wheel interfaces are designed to work with after-market radios and not OEM radios so finding a solution may involve some customization.
sirtanon
It's also entirely possible that the lack of good bass from the transferred head unit from the Five Hundred is because the Five Hundred incorporated an external amp that drove additional bass drivers. I know my Sable had this.

I got them to work yesterday, but when I press any of the buttons, doesn't matter which one, it just changes the source.
akirby
What make/model/year is the nav radio? Ford changed their bus architecture and it may not be able to communicate with the rest of the vehicle including the steering wheel controls.

All I know is it came from a 2006 Ford Five Hundred which is the same year as my Ford Fusion.
Bret Cummins
Do you think I should return the Navigation radio and get on that's from a 2007 Ford Fusion? Because I know Navigation wasn't an option for 2006 for the Fusion but it was in 2007.
akirby
Either it's not compatible or the dealer needs to program it to the vehicle. On the bass you'd need to find the subwoofer feed from the head unit and run it through an amp and add your own subwoofer(s). You really should have done a bit more research on this.

Because I know Navigation wasn't an option for 2006 for the Fusion but it was in 2007. That should work - I don't think Ford changed the Fusion bus until 2010. But if it came with subwoofers then you'll have the same issue needing the external amp and subs. On my 2006 I had subwoofers on the rear package shelf (part of the "audiophile" system).

I thought I did enough research but there wasn't too much info on it

Bret Cummins
I put a 2008 Mercury Milan navigation system in my 2006 Ford Fusion and everything works perfect.
