Stalling Problem: Full Accessory Power Active

Recommended Posts

My 2015 Ford Fusion has stalled twice in the last two days. Each time it has been shortly after starting up and driving the car. I would drive for a roughly one minute and the car would get up to about 15-30mph before the car stalls. I get a message that says "full accessory power active"

What is causing this problem? Is this known warranty problem? Can this happen when driving on the freeway at high speeds?

What model and engine, and do you have push button start? Never seen or heard of it, but seems like all reports of it I found are push button start, however most seem to get it when trying to start the vehicle, but there are reports of it after starting driving.

I don't see that in the owners manual in the information center messages, is it there or in the Sync display?

Hi cls1989. You will need to take your car to a Ford Dealer or mechanic to diagnose what is causing the stalling problem. Keep in mind that intermittent problems are hard to track down and diagnose, unless they cause a CEL or occur while the car is being looked at. Is your car still within the 3 year/36,000 mile Bumper to bumper Warranty?

If it has stalled out twice, then it is certainly possible it could stall out again at any time. It also may not. There is no way for us to predict if it will, won't, when or where.

As far as the "full accessory power active" warning: That display showing is normal when the ignition is on but the engine is not running. So since the car stalled and the ignition is still on, the car is simply telling you that accessory power is still active/available (sound system, SYNC etc.). You will get the same display if you pressed the starter button without putting your foot on the brake. Or if your 2015 Fusion still uses a key (I'm not sure), it would occur if you turned the key to the ignition "On" position without starting the car.

Keep us updated and good luck.

I appreciate all the replies. Yes its push to start. Its a 1.5L engine. It has almost 45k miles, so its just outside the warranty. The problem reappeared twice today. This problem has happened four times in the last three days. Again its the same scenario. I'll start the car. Drive for less than one minute. My speed gets up to around 10-20mph. The car stalls and that full accessory power active message appears. I scheduled an appointment with a Ford Dealer. They will look at on Wednesday.

Does it have any stored codes and does it seem worse with a full tank?

I think I got side tracking thinking that message in the message area meant something other than the car is in run position but not currently running.

I have had a soaked EVAP canister do the same thing, I haven't had any real drivability concerns with issues with the purge valve, but I am sure it is a lot different on a turbocharged 4 cylinder than an old school V8.

Hi cls.  No way to accurately diagnose over the Internet, but if it turns out to be a powertrain issue, the Powertrain Warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles.  Keep that in mind when you have the car serviced.

As I stated in my previous post, disregard the "full accessory power active" message. That is normal when the ignition is on but the engine is off  That would include a stalling condition like yours. That message is simply informing the driver that the ignition is on, the engine is off and you can still use the accessories.

Just as an FYI: In a normal condition when you are parked and not worried about stalling and safety...If you pressed the ignition button again without your foot on the brake, most of the accessories will turn off, but you can still listen to the radio. Then when you open your drivers door, the radio will turn off. Like if you are sitting waiting for someone and want to listen to the radio.

In other words...Press the ignition button once. with your foot off the brake, you go into "Full Accessory Mode" and can use most electrical accessories for a predetermined period of time before it turns off. Press it again with your foot off the brake and most electrical accessories turn off, radio stays on for predetermined period of time, or until you open a door.

I realize you probably already know this.  And this is probably not of much interest to you with your stalling issue right now.  However, since it came up, it may help someone else.

Hope it is something simple to repair. Keep us updated and good luck.

Hey guys, I have the same problem with my 14 Ford Fusion 2.0. My car check engine light came on with two codes, one was p0234 (turbo waste gate over boost) and p0421(cat exhaust system) mechanic check out, turn find out that these codes weren’t the problem. Car was having low fuel pressure. One of sensors went bad.
