  1. I;m about to replace the EPAS steering rack on my 2011 2.5L with a rebuilt rack from Cardone. Note in box says "steering rack is required to be flashed to the specific application with the latest available software. All DTC's MUST be cleared after flash programming." Is this something only the dealer can do? Can ForScan do anything related to this? Thanks.
  2. I have a 2011 Fusion 2.5L (288,600 km) and replaced the steering rack just over a year ago with a functioning used part. It has started losing the power steering assist again now, and ForScan shows the same codes as you are getting. Found Module: PSCM - Power Steering Control Module DTCs in PSCM: P07AE: 09-C8, U0415:00-48 Found Module: ABS - Antilock braking ssystem DTCs in ABS: C1277-20, C1963-20 Due to TSB 11-11-3 and raspy noises in front end I replaced the rearward front lower control arms. Also replaced the outer ties rods as one boot was destroyed. This reduced the raspy, friction type, noise in the front end but did not eliminate it. I cleared the DTC codes and reset the PSCM and ABS modules via ForScan. I also ran the tests on those modules for good measure. Thought I had it, as previously when I cleared the DTC codes they would return after about 15 mins or less of driving, but after 3 separate trips for a total of 45 mins driving all was still OK. My daughter then drove the car on a 2 hour trip and after 1.5 hrs the advance track and service power steering messages came back. The warnings do not cause immediate loss of the power steering assist, but do degrade the initial wheel turn effort. Once the car is shut off though and then restarted the power steering assist is gone. Am still considering this may be further stiffness in some of the other suspension components due to the aforementioned raspy noises still being present. The noises occur when the steering is moved back and forth but also when driving (slowly so can hear) over uneven surfaces with no steering input. I also inspected the inner tie rod bellows boots on the steering rack and didn't notice any splits. Here is a response to a Fusion EPAS failure P07AE code I found: 1. The code P07AE will set if the power steering control module senses excessive effort to turn the wheels. This will cause the PSCM to shut down power assist operation.2. Put the front wheels on turntables. Then move the wheels back and forth on the turn tables feeling for any catching or resistance.3. If resistance is found, check the shock towers, lower ball joints, and related steering and suspension components.4. Check the tire pressure to verify it is at spec and verify that all vehicle tires are the appropriate size for the vehicle and show similar wear.5. Raise the vehicle on a lift arm-hoist so the wheels are in full rebound and inspect the inner tie rod belows for potential cracks that may have allowed moisture entry. Replace the rack assembly as needed. This is most often caused by the rack and pinion steering gear. I don't like the last sentence!! Likely means big bucks as I'm likely going to buy a remanufactured steering gear this time. As to the ABS codes, here is another answer that makes me shudder as it also points to the steering rack: Both of these codes are for steering wheel rotation sensor faults. the steering wheel rotation sensor is incorporated into the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) rack and pinion gear. This is not a serviceable item by itself, which means that when it is faulty you have to replace the whole rack and pinion assembly. A couple of helpful websites I found: https://ford.oemdtc.com/2374/stabilitytraction-control-light-dtc-p07ae-and-u0415-2011-2012-ford-fusion-lincoln-mkz https://www.motor.com/magazine-summary/ford-epas-steering-you-straight-march-2019
  3. Old thread, but I'm a new user! What is TPS? I have the same codes P0016 & P052A, with the engine randomly surging about 50 rpm at idle. Just started happening after arriving home from a 1000 km trip.
