  1. That's a matter of opinion. Rightfully, the speed limit in remote parts of the US have risen to 80 mph. Most people seem to drive that speed or a little better. Having driven through the California, Arizona and Texas deserts, traffic is still light and the road isn't exactly littered with wildlife. On the other hand, I don't particularly recommend cruising at 100 mph on your typical Florida interstate highway, as there are many rolling road hazards to navigate. It's better to go with the flow. I am more interested in trying to reach top speed on a decent track.

  3. That's a pretty good looking combination. Wish I could afford one.
  4. Although I don't own a Fusion (yet), I have had good luck with Bridgestone and Firestone tires. Their tires lose very little of their traction capabilities even with high mileage. Well, little compared with many other brands, that is. The Potenzas are a very cost effective tire which should provide you with good service over the lifetime.. I have Potenza RE960 Pole Position tires on my Saturn L100 which are showing little wear after almost 15000 miles of driving. I think that I will have them for at least 40,000 miles or at least until I sell the car... You are lucky you have 16" wheels. I don't understand people's fascination with larger wheels, as tire replacement costs increase by almost 50 percent going to 17" wheels. If or when I buy my Fusion, I am going to ask the dealer if he has leftover 16" wheels. I will then put appropriately rated *H or above* tires to enhance highway stability. H-rated tires are good to 130 mph.
  5. Thanks, Jeff. Let me know! More importantly, let us know how fast it will go ungoverned!
  6. That is interesting. I wonder if the Fusion can be reprogrammed by an after-market tuner to take advantage of higher octane fuel.
  7. I was wondering about the Ambient lighting as well. It's a nice show off feature, but I doubt it would impress chicks that much. I am looking at a silver SEL V6 with the tan leather.
  8. I am new as well. I don't own one yet, but I may soon. Congratulations. I think that you have chosen a great car. Road Test 2008 Ford Fusion
  9. I have been an on and off Ford fan over the years. I know where you are coming from. I currently own a 2001 Saturn L100. I am getting sick of driving this car, and have been seriously considering going into the payment game again. I am considering a 2008 Fusion with about 13000 miles on it. I have liked that car for quite some time from the first time I tested it. Swamprats Road test I have said some lousy things about Ford in the past and I largely stand by them, as they apply to all the others as well. The only qualms I have about this vehicle is that it is FWD and that it is assembled in Mexico. Ford should have given our people a chance at building such an excellent car.
  10. Not if you're on a track or a very empty public road.
  11. I am looking at buying a 2008 Fusion SEL V6. I like the car, but am curious where they clip you off at top end. I think that it should be an option to remove it. The car seems to handle well enough to take it to a track to try out the higher top end.
  12. I am from central Florida and I have heard that the 5W20 oil is way too thin, even for todays close tolerance engines. Is that true. Does anyone use 5W30 or 10W30? I live in central FL and am hesitant to use that type of oil due to the high heat, high speeds experienced here in the sunshine state.
