  1. spark plug change - Is it necessary to replace the lower intake gasket? I was just at the auto parts store and they told me that I should replace the upper and lower intake gasket. I was just going to replace the upper gasket, I'm not even sure if I am technical enough to replace the lower gasket.
  2. I just bought the NGK Iridium IX. Should I return these and get the Motorcraft or the Autolite double platinum?
  3. Thanks for all the tips. I'll get this done when it gets a little warmer. I'll try to post some pics. Did anyone here ever fail in removing and putting toghether the intake manifold? Looks a little complicated.
  4. I might get the coil replaced than. What spark plugs or coils do you all use? I found the below link to be very useful http://dealnews.com/features/8-Simple-Auto-Repairs-that-Save-Big-Bucks-in-the-Long-Haul/590815.html I also did some research on coolant replacement. Just about all sites said that the coolant should be replaced every 5 years or 100,000 miles. After 5 years the coolant breaks down somehow and can clog the system. I will get that done, with a new thermostat and an engine coolant sensor.
  5. The coils are expensive, you think I should replace those?
  6. My 2008 fusion sel v6 will hit 95,000 miles soon. I need to start thinking about a tune up. I will be replacing spark plugs. I think that I will attempt to do this myself. Is it difficult to take out the intake manifold and put it back on? Do you all recommend any type of spark plugs? How do you clean the intake manifold? I will also replace the PCV valve and the PCV hose while doing the spark plugs, since the intake manifold has to be off to get to the PCV valve. I will be replacing the transmission oil, does everyone replace that? Should I replace the thermostat. I'm afraid that it might overheat sometime in the future. Or is that like a 150,000 mile thing? How do you even replace engine coolant if there is no radiator cap? It gets a new air filter yearly. Anything else to replace? So far this has been the most reliable car I ever had. And I have owned Toyota's before. I also know people who have honda's, nissan's, vw's, and bmw's and they seem to have problems all the time. I bought this as a rental, which means it was a little abused. It also had 2 accidents that had about 2 grand of front impact repairs, after purchase. All I had to get done was replace the transmission control module at about 55,000 miles which was done under manufacturer warranty. After that just regular oil changes. Also great fuel mileage for a v6. And the comfort is also the best of all cars I owned. Turning circle is a little bad, but that make the car more interesting to drive.
  7. I had my transmission computer replaced under warranty. Now everything is ok.
  8. From my research it might be the A/C compressor. I've been using it a lot lately. Just a second ago I started the car again. I didn't use air conditioning yesterday and I did not hear the noise. I'll have to test it out for a few more days. Does anyone know if the A/C has to be on for the A/C compressor to make the noise? The noise is coming from the A/C compressor, the condition known as "slugging" is believed to be due to liquid refrigerant collecting at the suction side of the compressor. As the compressor clutch engages, the liquid refrigerant is being pulled through the compressor. There is no fix and the noise does not indicate a problem or failure may occur. source: http://chevroletforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9382 I have the same thing and I don't believe it is the engine. I believe it is the A/C compressor. I had the same thing in a Honday Odyssey that I owned. It was explained to me as the coolant in the A/C system condensing after it has been used and turned off on a hot day. Then, when the A/C starts up again on another hot day, the compressor makes noise as it clears out the condensed coolant when the system starts up. It was considered normal. Given that manual says that the noise will occur when starting out on hot days, it makes sense that is what is going on here. While certainly I have had cars with A/C that don't make this noise, it isn't the first either. source: http://forum.chryslerminivan.net/showthread.php/9312-engine-makes-a-grinding-noise-when-starting-up-sometimes
  9. Once in a while when I start the engine for about half a second it will make a metal grinding sound. If I turn of the car and start it again it never makes the sound again. It will only make the sound when cold and also once in a while. Other than that the engine runs fine. I checked the oil level and it has enough. It seems like certain part of the engine does not have enough oil once it starts it lubricates that part of the engine and then its normal. Is this normal for the 3L?
  10. I went to ford a few weeks ago. They reprogrammed the transmission computer, now the car runs great.

  12. I noticed that when I break hard for example from 35mph to 10mph the transmission will still be in 4th or 5th gear when at 10mph. Than when I add gas the transmission shifts quickly into 1st or 2nd and then I hear a hard shift with lots of acceleration. I avoid this by pressing the gas very lightly so the transmission catches up. Sometimes it happens at higher speeds also, but notice it more in lower speeds. Has anyone here had this issue? And is this a problem?
  13. Lately I have been driving and have not noticed any transmission issues. Maybe it was because of the cold weather that sometimes there was a hard shift. Maybe its because I had the car for only 3 months and read the tsb that I panicked. I tried numerously to drive at 20mph or at 40mph and add lots of gas and transmission shifts ok. One thing I do notice is that when I break hard for example from 35mph to 10mph the transmission will still be in 4th or 5th gear when at 10mph. Than when I add gas the transmission shifts quickly into 1st or 2nd and then I hear a hard shift with lots of acceleration. I avoid this by pressing the gas very lightly so the transmission catches up. I think this is the same as my description above but I was going faster and not breaking but coasting. Has anyone here had this issue? And is this a problem?
