  1. So here's some history with my car, which I recently updated... Disappearing oil I finally got that squared away. Car runs GREAT, btw. The only reason I have it in the shop is because the CEL is preventing the car from passing inspection. I was gonna just roll with an uninspected car until I got caught, but, RI just got a fancy new computer system at the DMV (a couple million dollars later) and now they know when your sticker expires. I got a letter telling me to get it inspected or ELSE. My mechanic is currently closed, long term-ish (health problems and location issues), so I took it to the Ford dealership. I had to anyway because of that airbag recall so I could get a rental (free rental for a few months is the perfect band-aid for this inspection issue.) I figured too that if its a ECM problem, they'd be the ones to fix it anyway, so I might as well just go to the source. Well! I remember why I hate the dealership... They quoted me: $2,000.00+ for new VCT solenoid+timing chain replacement (and all associated gaskets, fluids, and other parts)+cam shaft phaser kit $475 for rear brakes (pad+rotors) $60 light bulbs for my license plate $45 wiper blades You do the math. I can't, I'll barf. That's more than the car is worth now. Oh, and I jut spent $1300 on front brakes, tranny flush, blower motor replacement, rear main gasket replacement, ocv replacement, and new tires. Why? Cuz I LOVE my Fusion. I called a few places and on average that rear brake job is $250-275 so I told the dealership to forget that bit, and I'll change the bulbs and blades myself thankyouverymuch. So that brings me to the other bit: the engine troubles, which, as I stated, I haven't noticed except the pesky CEL. I love the way my car runs. Its got balls when I need it to, which is often due to the lack of adequate lane length for proper acceleration on the highways I travel. If I had an acceleration problem I'd know it! It doesn't make noise, shake, lose fluids (anymore), stall, knock, or blow through gas. I find it hard to believe that so much is wrong with my engine. My concern however is that there IS so much wrong with my engine after me driving around for 25,000 miles with inadequate oil levels off and on. I mean, I did the best I could, was vigilant about checking the levels, getting it changed, and paying attention to performance clues, but, there were times the thing ran dry. I'm very skeptical of dealerships (got majorly hosed by one in my 20's and it'll never happen again!) so I asked the tech to give me the codes: P0022, same as it always is! Why does this problem keep coming back? My regular mechanic said, right before he closed, that he wanted to replace the solenoid (VCT) and see if that didn't fix it. I suggested that to Ford and they said, yeah, maybe it would, but if it doesn't we would have to charge you double labor to take the whole thing apart again. We usually just replace the phasers and solenoids, along with the timing chain, and all the associated gaskets and seals, etc, since "we're already in there, and due to the age and mileage of your vehicle." It kind of sounds like they are saying they do this work "just in case" and not because its necessary. IS it necessary? Is there any way to tell? They said they did NOT visually inspect the timing chain and its components, because if they did they would have to charge me for the labor and they would be obligated to also charge me for "seals" and most customers are not willing to pay for this level of diagnostics. Well, I guess I'm not either. Is there any other way to tell if I actually need a timing chain? Could it just be the tensioners/gears (sorry, I'm not a mechanic, in case I'm not using the right terms). If so, can't they just replace that? It would be excellent if someone here has experienced something similar (P0022 over and over, oil leaks, timing problems) and can chime in as to the solution, perhaps additional tests/questions I should ask, likelihood that these repairs are necessary (based on history of low oil, not just "age of vehicle and mileage (152K, btw)), and if so, likelihood that I'll get another 2 years out of this car (how long the inspection sticker is good for, and about as long as it'll take to pay off my other cars so I'll be ok to start paying for a new one.) Let me know if you need any more info.
  2. I have an '09 3.0L v6 auto trans with 184k miles. I bought it seven years ago, CPO from a Ford dealer at 34K miles and it's the most reliable car I've ever owned. Can runs well, but just developed an acceleration hesitation: If I'm cruising, then step on the throttle, at 1700 to 2000 rpm, the engine hesitates. after that it's fine. It doesn't do it all the time. when I think the issue is gone, it shows up again. then it's hard to replicate the issue. The air filter is fresh and clean, and I recently cleaned the MAF sensor with the correct spray and replaced the PCV. It seemed to help a little the issue is still there. There is no Check Engine Light on and the car is consistently getting great gas mileage and pulls as strong as ever. What is this? My guess is it could this be an O2 sensor issue. Even if it's not, I'd love to change them. Is there a video or photo of the O2 sensors' locations? thanks
  3. Ran the OBD and it threw thelse codes: Any help as to what might be the problem?

  5. Hello Fusion Forum, I'm new to this site as a member, but I've visited it frequently over the years, always great advice here! I have a 2007 fusion v6 FWD w/ 126,000 miles on it. I've always made an oil change within 5,000 mi and roughly 75% of the recent miles were long highway trips on cruise (100+ mi). During my last 2 oil changes (Aug 2014 & Nov 2014) the techs told me that I had very small leaks showing up on the engine, though I had not noticed any spots on the floor at home when checking. I tried a Stop Leak engine oil additive at 123,000 and by 124,000 I started seeing spotting on the garage floor. Now there are a few more spots and I took the car in to the shop to find out what's all leaking. I asked around and found a shop that was highly recommended by a vehicle fleet manager because they don't BS anything. According to the shop I have these oil leaks: - Both oil pan & gasket - Front crankshaft seal - Rear crankshaft seal - Camshaft seal They said they needed to pull the motor to fix everything and the bill would be roughly $2500, they did not recommend fixing it, but rather cleaning it and trading it. Which I'm now inclined to do. This car has spent it's entire life in harsh Minnesota and North Dakota winters, and has generally had 10% ethanol gas in it (it's almost impossible to find straight gasoline anymore here in the plains). Any other theories (besides the ethanol and cold weather factors) on why all of these went bad all at once? Thanks!
