  1. I am experiencing this issue too on a 2012 Fusion SEL. Sometimes (not always) the wipers will start wiping continuously or stop in the middle of the glass when switched to intermittent. The passenger side wiper is also now parking a bit high, compared to my neighbor's 2012 Fusion. I would love to try a fix, but I notice that other attempted fixes (replacing switch, motor, etc.) have not solved the problem. Perhaps the wiper got physically out of calibration. What can we check?
  2. 2012 Fusion SEL. Heated mirror, but I don't have the blind spot indicator on the mirrors. I do have the small convex mirror for blind spots. While parked, I noticed that my driver's side view mirror glass has two thin cracks in it. (The main glass, not the small convex mirror). Something caused it to crack in the bottom center, not sure what happened. The car has been mostly parked in my driveway due to no commuting, so it's strange that anything happened. Has anyone replaced the mirror glass? There's a lot of conflicting information on the Internet, but I'd love to hear a reputable source for replacement OEM glass and how to replace. If possible, I'd like to do it myself.
  3. I would be satisfied if they just check their own work and fix any wires broken by removing the panels incorrectly/correctly. I'm already concerned about what other shortcuts were taken during the airbag installation. Reading the recall service instructions, it is very important to keep debris out of the airbag area and do everything exactly as described in the instructions.
  4. Propwash, can you send me a photo with the TCS OFF switch illuminated when you have a chance? I'd greatly appreciate it. What year/trim is your Fusion? ps. love the username
  5. Update: The dealer was able to restore the ambient lighting after a second 2 day repair. But the TCS (Traction Control System) OFF switch is not illuminated. (The ambient lighting switch is illuminated, although it is now a different color than every other button on the panel). The dealer says the TCS OFF button was never illuminated. I thought that it was, but I don't have any photos inside of my car at night to prove (or disprove) this. For anyone who has a 2012 Fusion SEL, does the TCS switch illuminate with the other instrument panel/dashboard lights at night or is it invisible? The TCS button does toggle the amber indicator on the dash, so the button itself appears to work. It's not the biggest thing in the world, but I just want to ensure the car after the airbag repair is the same as the car before the airbag repair.
  6. eGuru, Thank you for taking the time to respond with your expertise. I'm assuming the dealer will have to open up the entire dashboard again to resolve. I'm also assuming I will have to argue with them to fix it, but we shall see. Why would these problems surface at the time of passenger airbag fix? Would they have been working nearby, or is it possible the connectors were just bumped? I'm curious why the TCS switch illumination does not work, but the TCS switch itself appears to work (amber indicator on dash toggles on/off when the TCS switch button is pressed. Conversely, the ambient lighting button IS illuminated at night, but the ambient lighting that it controls doesn't work at all. Perhaps a coincidence.
  7. I took my 2012 Fusion to the dealer to get the passenger airbag recall repair earlier this month. I haven't been driving after dark until this week, but now I've noticed that two things aren't working: 1.) The ambient light (LED) no longer works. (The control button itself lights at night). Previously I could press the button to change colors, although I normally keep it on red. I remember it working recently (before the recall). 2.) The switch illumination for the Traction Control disable button no longer works. This button is near the ambient light button. Has anyone else had similar stop working after the airbag recall? The dealer did say they had to remove the entire dashboard area to do the recall, so I'm sure this area was disturbed. I've contacted them, but now will have to see if they will protest restoring the car to the way it was. I'm looking for any other stories or experiences with airbag recall work and things not working afterward. I am also wondering what else might be disconnected or not working? ( I will check the pressure switch that disables the passenger airbag if there is a small weight on the seat.) Anything else I should check?
  8. 2012 Fusion SEL. I've noticed that my car's brakes make two clicking noises the first time the brake is pressed when moving forward (or backward) the first time after the car's engine is started. Does anyone know what this is? An ABS check?
  9. 2012 Fusion SEL, 2.5L What is the "normal" voltage for the alternator to deliver? With my old battery, it was 14.1 volts. Now that I have a new battery, it fluctuates between 14.4 and 14.5 regardless of idling, engine load, etc. Is a charging voltage over 14 "normal?"
  10. Update: Dealer refused to align under warranty so I declined to have done by them. I'm not sure what Ford's position is about warranty coverage. The fog lights point to a spot about 10 feet in front of bumper (hard to see from driver's seat even). I understand fog lights should be diffused and point fairly low, but this is excessive.
  11. Since day 1, my fog lights have been useless because the factory pointed them extremely low. My base 36/36 warranty will expire in a few months. Is fixing fog light alignment covered under the warranty? I know there is a post here on aiming fog lights, but I do not currently have an easy way to work under the vehicle. Thank you!
  12. Update: About a year ago, the dealer finally agreed to install the TSB for the sloshing noise. It was particularly bad in my 2012 2.5L since day one. The TSB was installed last summer and I've now experienced cold (very cold!) weather since. I'm happy to report that the TSB bottle replacement was very successful. Once in a while, I'll hear a faint sloshing noise right after start up, but it's rare and extremely short when it does occur. Hopefully the TSB was worth the wear and tear on the car. It was done under warranty. Now if I could just have all the exterior lights stop flashing everytime you open a door and close a door, that would be great. I really don't need that and I'm getting tired of replacing light bulbs.
  13. Thank you for posting this information! Wow, what a crazy engineering decision. If you leave the headlights on (most easily seen), the car protects itself from battery exhaustion. If you have the parking lights on (much harder to see during the day, and easily confused wtih the automatic parking lights going on everytime you open/close a door day and night), then the car will just let the battery run down to zero so you are stranded. By contrast, Chrysler protects the battery in *both* conditions. Dodge 1 , Ford 0.
  14. Does the battery saver relay include parking lights too? Our military base requires parking lights, which are easy to leave on.
  15. I discovered the exterior lights on my 2012 Fusion SEL do not turn off automatically if one leaves them on accidentally, the car will just allow the battery to run down. Is there a way to enable automatic headlight / parking light shut off? My 1999 Dodge shut off all exterior lights after 8 minutes when the engine was off, so I'm surprised a more modern car doesn't do this by default. Thanks for any assistance!
  16. Hello, I have an AllData factory service information subscription for my 2012 Fusion, but unfortunately Alldata does not have rear view mirror information. Does anyone have service information for the dimmable rear view mirror, and the factory steps for diagnosis, repair and replacement? I'm not sure if this is the right subforum, please move if applicable. Thank you!
  17. Thanks for the replies! I will ask for OEM glass. No, the car has never had a replacement windshield and is only a year old. Why would I have needed a windshield replacement prior to the dealer breaking it? This wasn't a rock falling on it or something like that, this was for simple repair of a (non) dimming mirror, so I'm more than confused why the windshield was cracked in the first place. I understand that they will need to break the original window to remove it, I'm imagining glass going in the defrost vents and everywhere else.
  18. The rearview mirror on my Fusion had stopped working. The dealer duplicated the problem and were replacing the mirror under factory warranty. Somehow in that process, they cracked the windshield. Does anyone know how they could have done this? From the manual it looks like you (should) use a special tool to separate the mirror from the glass mount, so they shouldn't have been trying to scrape the mirror mount off the glass even if the entire mirror housing had to be replaced. What should I be expecting the dealer to do (besides replace the glass). How can I know if the new glass will be fitted properly and the mirror will be installed at the same spot? Is there anything else that could be missed? I will make sure I get a new inspection sticker on the new glass. I am extremely disappointed.
  19. New 2012 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5L w/ Reverse Sense Price Paid $ 20,320 + Tax/Title/Tags
  20. Interesting info, thanks! Yes, my last vehicle was a Dodge and the speedometer was extremely accurate. Even just before I replaced my nearly worn tires it was still accurate so I figured the wear didn't affect the reading that much. It sounds like they intentionally make the displayed speed higher as a CYA in case people change tires more so than to protect them from tickets. Fortunately the debug mode speed (displayed on the message center) and my gps remind me of the accurate speed. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. It is interesting that the article cited mentions error percentages, but the Fusion speedometer seems a constant 1.5 mph higher, regardless of vehicle speed, so the error percentage would be much lower at high speeds.
  21. Hi Chip, I noticed that you are in Northern Virginia. Which dealer was giving you the runaround? Do you have any favorite dealers or places to avoid? Thanks!
  22. Provided your issue was well-documented during the warranty period, you should certainly still be able to get satisfaction within a reasonable time after the warranty expires. Otherwise, they could just stall repairing any malfunctioning vehicle, claiming they don't understand how to fix it until the clock runs out for them.
  23. I noticed that my 2012 SEL speedometer consistently reads 1.5 MPH higher than the actual vehicle speed. This is confirmed via the speed shown on the Message Center in Debug mode, as well as with a sensitive GPS. Is this inaccuracy intentional? Obviously the computer knows the correct speed since it displays it via Debug mode, but did they intend the gauge to read high? Has anyone else noticed this? I'd prefer my gauges to be accurate, *especially* speed. Hopefully the odometer doesn't read high too, I'll have to verify that.
  24. UPDATE: It turns out that the Conquest and Brochure rebates were *not* compatible, so the dates were actually moot for me. It is one or the other (same value)-- I did verify this. It does sound reasonable that Ford would have some limits on stacking rebates, or we could just keep piling them on until the car is free But in my next car purchase, I will wait until I am sure that I have everything in hand, just in case. Thanks for the assistance to all in this thread!
