  6. 2020 Ford Fusion Sport - Dead For the Ford Fusion, the culling is coming. 2020 will be the final model year in the U.S. for the 2012-introduced sedan, and in preparation, Ford is cutting extraneous trim levels. Cars Direct says Ford is simplifying the Fusion lineup to "focus on more popular styles," which means the powerful but expensive and slow-selling Fusion Sport will be the first to go. The Sport is the flagship Fusion model, combining the 2.7-liter, 325-horsepower EcoBoost V6 engine with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. It's essentially based on the Titanium trim level with more power, but the styling add-ons live more to the Sport name, with darkly colored 19-inch wheels, black mesh details and carbon trim. The part leather, part suede seats are shared with the Titanium. With the Sport gone, the most powerful Fusion one can buy in 2020 will be one with the 2.0-liter Ecoboost engine with 240 horsepower. . .READ MORE HERE.

  10. Ford Motor Company Launches New Warranty for Ford Genuine and Motorcraft® Parts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0wRMAd-gGA Ford Motor Company will announce at the annual Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) trade show on Nov. 6 the launch of a new warranty on Genuine Ford and Motorcraft service parts. The new warranty provides unlimited mileage coverage for 24 months from time of purchase or installation. Ford will also now reimburse fleets and independent repair facilities up to $150 in labor coverage. Ford continues a No Commercial Exceptions policy as a commitment to fleet customers. “The Ford backing, clarity of terms, labor coverage and access to our nationwide network for coverage, provides greater value and peace of mind for all our customers whether they are general consumers, fleet operators or independent repair facilities,” said Jay Davis, General Sales Manager, Ford Motor Company. Ford’s part warranty provides customers towing reimbursement for repairs completed at any Ford or Lincoln Dealership. The warranty also provides Independent Repair Facilities the ability to complete repairs for customers by securing parts from a dealership or Ford Authorized Distributor. All customers benefit with more options on how they can have their vehicles serviced. Ford’s previous service parts warranty was 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurred first, and labor was covered if the part was installed by a Ford or Lincoln dealership. Labor was not covered on parts sold over-the-counter to a fleet or installer.
  11. Ford C-MAX Energi, Fusion Energi Overtake Toyota in Plug-In Hybrid Sales Ford C-MAX Energi, Fusion Energi Overtake Toyota in Plug-In Hybrid Sales Ford C-MAX Energi and Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid vehicles deliver best sales month ever, outpacing sales of the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid vehicle Sales of Ford plug-in hybrid vehicles in October shatter previous record by 45 percent Ford catapults from zero market share to 34 percent in 13 months in the plug-in hybrid vehicle market FORD FUSION ENERGI FORUM - Ford Motor Company took over the No. 1 spot in plug-in hybrid vehicle sales of the Ford Fusion Energi and Ford C-MAX Energi in October, outpacing sales of the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid vehicle. Ford sold 2,179 Fusion Energi and C-MAX Energi vehicles last month, accounting for 34 percent of the total plug-in hybrid market. Toyota sold 2,095 units of its Prius plug-in hybridvehicle. It is Ford’s best month ever for plug-in hybrid sales, shattering the previous record of 1,508 vehicles sold in September, a 45 percent increase. Ford’s plug-in hybrid vehicles –Fusion Energi and C-MAX Energi – hit this sales milestone just one year after introduction of C-MAX Energi and less than a year since launch of Fusion Energi. Plug-in hybrid sales are beginning to gain traction in some key growth markets for Ford across the United States. California continues to account for 38 percent of all Ford plug-in hybrid vehicle sales, but plug-ins are strengthening in the midwestern and eastern regions. New York, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia combine to make up 32 percent of the C-MAX Energi market. Those same cities make up 34 percent of the market for Fusion Energi. New York alone comes close to unseating San Francisco as the second most popular market for Fusion Energi. Fusion Energi sales in October doubled in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. from the previous month. Plug-in hybrid sales for the industry are up 32 percent year-to-date. The industry sold 39,083 vehicles through October, compared to 29,526 vehicles in 2012. October plug-inhybrid sales came within 40 units of setting an all-time monthly record for the segment. Through September, aggregate data collected through MyFord® Mobile show Ford plug-in hybrids are being driven about 203,000 electric miles a day, enough to drive around the earth nearly eight times, or more than 8,400 electric-only miles an hour. These numbers are rapidly increasing as Ford continues investing in infrastructure while features exclusive to Ford plug-ins help improve driving habits. Through MyFord Mobile and other features such as SmartGauge® with EcoGuide, data show how driving habits evolve and how electric-only miles rapidly accumulate. After six months of vehicle ownership, nearly 30 percent of all trips are taken gas-free, compared to about 20 percent at the beginning of ownership.

  14. Ford Debuts All-New Mondeo in Asia; Flagship Redefines Segment with Premium Design, Advanced Tech and Latest 1.5-litre EcoBoost Engine All-new Ford Mondeo unveiled in China, showing a striking silhouette outlined by new global design language and a high-quality interior that delivers superior craftsmanship that rivals premium competitors With a comprehensive list of cutting-edge technologies, including Lane Keeping System, adaptive cruise control, inflatable rear seatbelts, and SYNC with MyFord Touch® in Mandarin, the all-new Mondeo delivers features customers truly want and value The latest member of the global EcoBoost family – a 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine – will debut on all-new Mondeo, offering first-rate fuel economy Fusion EcoBoost Owners – Ford continues to aggressively expand its growing line-up in China with the classy all-new global Mondeo, which rewrites benchmarks in the midsize segment with its expressive design, luxury technologies, class-leading safety and top fuel economy. Built on Ford’s global C/D-segment platform, the refined Ford flagship is one of the 15 global vehicles that the company has promised to bring to the country by 2015. Featuring a sleek silhouette and fresh face, the all-new Ford Mondeo will be available as a four-door sedan in Asia. The Mondeo will be the first car in its segment to be equipped with a 1.5-litre powertrain, the brand-new 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, to deliver class-leading fuel economy. It will also be the first Ford vehicle to be equipped with the innovative 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine. “We’ve gone further in every aspect to bring to China the most premium Mondeo we have ever designed, developed and built,” said Marin Burela, president and CEO, Changan Ford Automobile Co., Ltd. “The all-new Mondeo is designed to stir the senses and transform expectations of what a car can be. “It’s truly a flagship car, offering a blend of quality and excitement to our Chinese customers that raises the bar in the segment in terms of craftsmanship, style and technology- delivering what we believe our Chinese customers truly want and value.” Ground-breaking design Ford’s new global design language comes to the fore in the all-new Mondeo’s refined, elegant and highly emotional exterior. The lean side profile is sculpted to convey “visual lightness” while the sophisticated front end design features Ford’s new, more prominent trapezoidal grille as well as a power-dome bonnet. The design team was guided by five elements as they sketched out the Mondeo: Silhouette innovation: Mondeo’s sleek profile sets it apart from the powertrain/cabin/boot “three-box” designs associated with sedans Efficiency: Thin roof pillars and character lines that sweep to the rear hint at how the Mondeo is nimble and light on its feet Refined surface language: Mondeo demonstrates that a tasteful, well-executed design does not require add-ons or visual clutter Technical graphics: Mondeo’s functional design elements such as the segment-first adaptive full LED headlamps, tail lamps, and polished exhaust tips communicate enhanced technological capability New face: Mondeo signals the next evolution in Ford global design language The all-new Mondeo is the first Ford to feature headlamps with LED high-beam, low-beam and signal lighting. Quicker to illuminate, more durable and more energy-efficient than traditional filament bulb headlamps, the Mondeo’s LED headlamps turn with the steering and adapt beam projection to vehicle speed – providing a greater depth of illumination at high speeds and a wider field of vision at lower speeds. Scoring yet another first among competitors, the Mondeo comes with Ford’s Multi-Contour Seats with Active Motion™ which contain 11 air cushions that pad the driver and passenger’s entire back – three for lumbar support, four for the seat pad, and four for side support. The bottom cushion features Active Motion technology, which provides a subtle continuous massage, designed to lessen back pain on long trips. The interior delivers exceptional levels of ergonomics and comfort, with superior craftsmanship throughout the driver-focused cockpit. A higher centre console supports the driver-centric theme and yields clever storage for items a driver wants to keep handy. Additional passenger space was designed in by moving the instrument panel toward the windshield, contributing to the cabin’s airy, open environment. Paying attention to detail, Ford also gave the interior soft-touch materials and made sure interior and exterior gaps are minimised. Extra care has also been taken to upholster or cover each edge and every surface a customer can touch. When the boot lid is opened, for example, a spring-loaded cover automatically conceals the boot latch hardware. “With the all-new Mondeo, quality is not just about what you can see,” said Burela. “It’s also about what you can touch and feel.” Mondeo watches out for you The all-new Mondeo is the first vehicle in China to be equipped with the innovative inflatable rear seatbelts, which combine attributes of an airbag and a conventional seatbelt. These are designed to reduce head, neck and chest injuries for rear-seat passengers, especially children and older passengers who are more vulnerable to such injuries. In the event of an accident, the belt rapidly expands to disperse crash forces across a body area five times greater than that achieved by a conventional seatbelt. As with an airbag, Ford’s inflatable rear seatbelt is activated when crash sensors detect an accident. This forces compressed gas out of a cylinder housed below the rear seat, through the buckle and into the belt, which is fully deployed in less than 40 milliseconds. Unlike airbags which generate heat when deploying, Ford’s inflatable rear seatbelt uses cold compressed gas. The all-new Mondeo also offers an unprecedented portfolio of driver assistance and convenience technologies based on sensors, cameras and radar that enable the car to see and respond. Mondeo can help drivers maintain proper lane position, adjust vehicle speed to changing traffic conditions, identify suitable parking spaces and even help park. Class-exclusive technologies include: MyKey: This innovative feature promotes safer driving behaviour by allowing owners to limit top speed and audio volume, set speed warnings, encourage safety belt usage and ensure safety features are not disabled, when allowing use of their car Auto High Beam Control: Preventing accidental dazzling of drivers, this feature relies on a sensor that detects on-coming vehicles and automatically switches to dipped beam, before switching back to high beam once it detects the vehicle has passed Class-leading technologies encompass: Lane Keeping System: This three-level system alerts and assists the driver when the Mondeo is drifting out of the lane, especially helpful during long drives when the driver can get drowsy. A windshield-mounted digital camera detects lane markers and the car’s position on the road. If the car approaches the edge of the lane without signalling, the steering wheel vibrates to simulate driving over rumble strips. If the car continues to drift, the electric power-assisted steering will nudge the car back toward the centre of the lane. Persistent drifting consistent with a sleepy driver triggers chimes and warning lamp alerts for the driver to stop and rest Active City Stop: This feature can help prevent collisions at speeds of up to 15 km/h and help mitigate the effects of impacts at speeds of up to 30 km/h. A sophisticated light detecting and ranging sensor that captures 15 images in the blink of an eye calculates whether traffic is slowing or has stopped and applies the brakes automatically if it determines a collision is imminent Adaptive cruise control: This adaptive version of the traditional cruise control allows the Mondeo to automatically adapt to the speed of the highway traffic and follow another vehicle at a set distance. The driver selects a desired interval to follow traffic and the desired cruise speed. The system will slow the Mondeo down if it senses slower-moving traffic ahead. This radar-based system works even in most fog and rain conditions Active Park Assist: This technology helps the driver to parallel park easily without ever touching the steering wheel. Using ultrasonic sensors, it can identify a suitable space, calculate the trajectory and quickly steer the car into the spot. The driver only has to operate the accelerator and brake pedals Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®): This system helps the driver monitor spaces he or she cannot see. BLIS displays a visual alert in the side mirror when a vehicle enters its blind spot. “The new Mondeo has class-leading technologies worthy of a flagship car and which embody Go Further, reflecting Ford’s high standards of progressiveness in automobile development and customer understanding globally, especially here in China,” said Burela. Entertainment just a command away The all-new Mondeo offers the latest iteration of Ford’s award-winning, industry-exclusive SYNC® communications and entertainment system, which enables voice-activated communication through a driver’s mobile phone and interaction with the car’s audio system. Available in English and Mandarin, SYNC with MyFord Touch® allows the driver to interact with vehicle systems such as climate control, radio, and CD-player through voice commands, an eight-inch colour touchscreen as well as a conventional button. SYNC with MyFord Touch helps reduce the potential for driver distraction through voice-controlled functionality, allowing drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. As an added bonus for customers in China, rear passengers can select and control the music from the audio buttons in the centre armrest at the back. They can even move the front passenger seat forward for more legroom at the touch of a button on the side of the seat. Brand-new global EcoBoost engine The new 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine will debut on the all-new Mondeo. It is the fifth and latest member to join Ford’s global family of EcoBoost engines, which includes a 1.0-litre three-cylinder, 1.6- and 2.0-litre four-cylinders, and two 3.5-litre V6 variants. Ford’s EcoBoost technology, which holds more than 125 patents, combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and variable valve timing to enable a downsized engine to gain fuel economy by up to 20 percent over larger engines with no loss of performance. The 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine is projected to produce 132 kW of power at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 240 Nm from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm. It includes an integrated intake manifold and water-cooled charge air cooler, which allows for a more efficient feed of air into the engine, and a clutch-controlled water pump that delivers fuel efficiencies by reducing the warm up time of the engine. The engine also features specific technologies to reduce noise, vibration and harshness, delivering an engine that is quiet and refined. Other than the 1.5-litre EcoBoost powerplant, the all-new Mondeo will also be available with the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine, which serves up 170 kW of power at 5,500 rpm and 340 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. Both engines will be mated with Ford’s fuel-efficient six-speed automatic transmission. Safe and smooth Available with up to seven airbags, the all-new Mondeo is designed with customer safety in mind. Engineers increased its body strength by 10 percent, using ultra-high-strength steels such as boron, which also reduced overall weight for improved fuel economy. Ford also debuts an all-new premium-level integral link suspension configuration on the Mondeo to improve ride comfort and noise reduction, especially for passengers in the rear. Combine it with the electric power-assisted steering, and the Mondeo becomes a joy to handle and drive, with a dynamic character that will please a well-seasoned enthusiast and increase the confidence level of less-experienced drivers. Interior quiet on the all-new Ford Mondeo reaches a new level with acoustic underbody shields and weight-saving sound-absorption material – both minimise road and powertrain noise while boosting aerodynamic efficiency to help save fuel. A full-perimeter bonnet seal takes the Mondeo all the way to the top of its class in giving drivers a quiet ride. The new Mondeo is also equipped with Ford’s Emergency Assistance, which provides peace of mind and reassurance to the driver and occupants. This free service utilises the driver’s mobile phone and, using SYNC, is designed to automatically inform emergency services via a dedicated call centre in the event of an accident.
  15. Fusion Energi Lands Ford Atop List with Highest Number of 2013 Vehicles Qualifying for Faster Lane Access in California The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has approved the all-new Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid for its carpool lane access program; this gives Ford, along with Toyota, more 2013 vehicles that qualify for the state’s high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes than any other automaker Fusion Energi meets the long-distance challenges of California’s super commuters who also face increased congestion; idling in stop-and-go traffic is estimated to waste 1.9 billion gallons of gasoline annually Ford Fusion Energi hits showrooms later this winter as Ford’s fifth new electrified vehicle to launch in the last 12 months, joining Ford Fusion Hybrid, Ford C-MAX Hybrid, Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid and Ford Focus Electric Fusion Energi Owners – Californians now have another Ford vehicle option to get them where they’re going even faster with the all-new Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid, as the vehicle has been approved for use in the state’s high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes. To earn access to these faster moving carpool lanes, vehicles must qualify for tax rebates through California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, which is overseen by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). A vehicle that qualifies earns a special sticker that identifies it as having HOV privileges. Ford Fusion Energi buyers are eligible to receive a $1,500 tax rebate – in addition to a $3,750 federal tax credit – making Fusion the third Ford brand vehicle to now qualify for California’s special financial and driving incentives, and putting Ford in the lead, along with Toyota, for having the most vehicles of any automaker allowed access to the state’s carpool lanes. Ford Focus Electric and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid also qualify. The tax rebate and carpool lane access program are designed to promote reduced greenhouse gas emissions and consumption of less gas – making the three eligible Ford vehicles natural inclusions. “That Ford has the most 2013 vehicles eligible for HOV lane access in the largest electrified vehicle market in the U.S. underscores our success in truly offering power of choice, especially when it comes to electric and hybrid powertrains,” said C.J. O’Donnell, group marketing manager for Ford Electrification. To qualify for the programs, a vehicle must be classified by CARB as a super ultra-low emission vehicle and be certified by the U.S. EPA to offer fuel economy of at least 45 mpg on the highway. Fusion Energi not only meets CARB standards but also has an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 100 MPGe combined– 108 MPGe city and 92 MPGe highway – along with a total range of up to 620 miles on one tank of gas and one full charge; Fusion has an electric-only range of up to 21 miles. This means at least one leg of the average work commute – reportedly 20 miles each way – could be completed each day with Fusion Energi never using a drop of gas. A study by the United States Department of the Treasury estimates congestion consumed an extra 1.9 billion gallons of fuel in 2011, approximately 5 percent of all gasoline used. In California, Fusion Energi is the ninth Ford vehicle to qualify for carpool lane access through CARB since 1993, with Focus Electric and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid being the most recent. “Fusion Energi is Ford’s most fuel-efficient sedan and offers a top electric-only speed of up to 85 mph,” said O’Donnell. “Californians clearly appreciate the environmental benefit, too, which is why we are seeing the state’s programs embrace Ford’s electrified lineup.” Programs like California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project are growing in number to encourage the use of vehicles that produce fewer emissions and use less gas. They range from the $3,750 federal tax credit owners may receive for buying Fusion Energi to a program in Ferndale, Mich., where drivers of hybrids that get 30 mpg or better in the city are allowed to park for free at city parking meters. Other states offering lane driving privileges for hybrid vehicle owners include Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia. Delivering choice Ford’s launch of the new C-MAX Hybrid, C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid and Fusion Hybrid this past autumn led the company to deliver record-setting hybrid sales in December, resulting in a 9 percent market share gain to 16 percent. In the same period, Toyota’s share of the hybrid vehicle segment fell 8 points, from 68 percent to 60 percent. Then Ford delivered a record hybrid sales month for January, following record-breaking electrified vehicle sales in the fourth quarter of 2012. Fusion Hybrid saw record sales in January. Fusion Energi figures prominently in Ford’s rollout of electrified vehicles and is helping the automaker sell these record numbers of hybrids. Ford now offers five electrified vehicles: C-MAX Hybrid: EPA-estimated rating of 47 mpg city, highway and combined – up to 7 mpg better than Toyota Prius v – plus 50 more horsepower than the Toyota and 12 class-exclusive technologies C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid: Best EPA-estimated combined miles per gallon equivalency of any plug-in hybrid, Ford’s first production plug-in hybrid vehicle has a city rating of 108 MPGe and 21 miles of all-electric range – more than triple Prius plug-in’s six miles – and an EPA-estimated gas plus electric range of 620 miles. The vehicle’s “real car” performance includes 195 horsepower (versus Prius plug-in at 134 horsepower), engaging driving dynamics and a quiet interior – all with a leading electric-only speed of 85 mph, more than 20 mph above the Prius Fusion Hybrid: EPA-estimated rating of 47 mpg city, highway and combined – up to 6 mpg better than Toyota Camry Hybrid Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid: EPA-estimated gas plus electric range of 620 miles, electric-only range of up to 21 miles, and EPA-estimated rating of 108 MPGe city, 92 MPGe highway and 100 MPGe combined Focus Electric: America’s most fuel-efficient compact car, with an EPA-estimated rating of 110 MPGe city, 99 MPGe highway and 105 MPGe combined More information about Ford’s electrified vehicle lineup can be found here.

Adding to Fusion Energi’s value – and the myriad ways it beats Toyota Prius plug-in – are its innovative technologies that are designed to help win over both novice and pro hybrid owners. SmartGauge® with EcoGuide, for example, provides in-vehicle customizable displays, including instantaneous fuel economy readings and coaching functions to help drivers understand and optimize their fuel efficiency. SYNC® with MyFord Touch® offers multiple ways – including voice commands – for customers to manage and control their phone, available navigation, entertainment and climate functions. Plug-in hybrids and all-electric models have additional options for monitoring information like battery state of charge. EV+ combines the built-in GPS of Ford SYNC with proprietary software algorithms developed by Ford engineers to learn frequent destinations. As a result, vehicles give drivers more drive time in electric-only mode. Such technologies have helped get sales for Ford’s electrified vehicle lineup up and running. With more than 19,000 hybrid vehicle sales projected, the automaker expects total fourth-quarter hybrid sales to set an all-time record for a three-month period, with more than half of hybrid sales this year expected to come in the fourth quarter. In fact, C-MAX became the fastest-selling hybrid ever at launch after 8,030 units were sold in October and November, the first two months C-MAX was on the market. The pace beat Toyota Camry Hybrid’s 7,300 sales in its first two full months of availability in May and June 2006. “The response to C-MAX really shows the amount of pent-up demand from a specific market for C-segment hybrids,” says C.J. O’Donnell, marketing manager, Ford Electrified Vehicles. “Fusion Energi has a different audience in the midsize sedan market, but delivers many of the characteristics and technologies that make C-MAX Energi so great, which is why we’re anticipating a similar positive response.” C-MAX is geared toward those most concerned with fuel economy, but designed so that owners aren’t forced to sacrifice comfort and convenience. Fusion is designed with the driver’s sense of style in mind, delivering a midsize sedan that offers functional design elements that enhance its sleek exterior and promote fuel economy. A video explaining the origin of Fusion Energi can be found . With Fusion Energi and Fusion Hybrid, the all-new Fusion lineup brings the widest range of powertrain options to the U.S. midsize segment. Fusion also is available in gas-powered versions with a choice between a pair of fuel-efficient EcoBoost® engines and a normally aspirated four-cylinder engine. The addition of Fusion Energi gives customers yet another Ford option when shopping for an electrified vehicle – already available are Focus Electric, Fusion Hybrid, C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi. Three of the vehicles – Focus Electric, C-MAX Energi and now Fusion Energi – have received EPA ratings of 100 MPGe or more. Focus Electric delivers EPA-estimated ratings of 110 MPGe city, 99 MPGe highway and 105 MPGe combined, making it America’s most fuel-efficient five-passenger car. C-MAX Energi has an EPA-estimated rating of 108 MPGe city, 92 MPGe highway and 100 MPGe combined. Focus Electric went on sale in late 2011, followed by C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi – the two vehicles that make up Ford’s first hybrid-only line in North America – this past autumn. Fusing technologies Many of the innovative technologies of Fusion Energi are shared across Ford’s electrified vehicle lineup and draw from the automaker’s portfolio of about 500 patents related specifically to hybrid technology: MyFord® Mobile: Enables access via smartphone or Web-based interface to perform key tasks, such as monitoring a vehicle’s state of charge and current range or locating charge stations and planning routes to find them Eco cruise: Saves vehicle energy by relaxing acceleration compared to standard cruise control EV mode button: Conveniently mounted on the console to the right of the shifter – allows a driver to switch vehicle operation between three modes: all-electric, normal hybrid operation and conserve battery power for later use Regenerative braking is capable of capturing and reusing more than 90 percent of the braking energy normally lost during the braking process Hybrid transmission, designed by Ford engineers in-house, is capable of operating at high speeds and in a smooth, fuel-efficient manner at the same time Advanced lithium-ion batteries used in Ford’s electrified vehicle lineup – covered by an eight-year/100,000-mile component limited warranty – are smaller and lighter than nickel-metal-hybrid batteries used in previous-generation hybrids Charge port with LED light ring, conveniently located on the driver’s side and near the front of the car, it features a light ring that illuminates to indicate charge status

Ford readies Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid for debut in 2013 Mark Phelan / Free Press The plug-in hybrid version of the Ford Fusion miside sedan will have a battery-only range of more than 21 miles and top speed of 85 mph. The plug-in hybrid, which Ford calls the Fusion Energi, should go on sale early in 2013. Ford expects the car to get an EPA rating of better than 100 m.p.g.e. when it’s running on batteries. That would make it one of the most efficient vehicles on the road. Plug-in hybrids have larger batteries than conventional hybrids. They can run on electricity alone for considerably greater distances than basic hybrids, which can usually only cover a mile or two on battery power. READ MORE HERE

  21. New 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid Titanium Blends Unsurpassed Fuel Efficiency with Premium Amenities All-new Ford Fusion Hybrid Titanium adds premium amenities and technology to the most fuel-efficient midsize family sedan in America Standard features include leather interior, premium Sony® audio system and MyFord Touch® Customers can select a Fusion Titanium model with either a hybrid powertrain or the 2.0-liter EcoBoost® all-wheel-drive powertrain for the same base price of $32,995 Ford Fusion Hybrid Forum – Ford’s new Fusion Hybrid, the most fuel-efficient sedan in America, raises the bar on luxury and technology with the debut of the 2013 Titanium edition. The new model will be sold alongside the Fusion Hybrid SE, which is priced $1,575 less than the outgoing Fusion Hybrid, with even more content. The Titanium edition was developed in response to consumer demand for a higher level of luxury in a hybrid vehicle. Ford has been selling the Fusion Hybrid since 2009, and this is the first time it has been offered with this level of features. Starting at just $32,995, Fusion Hybrid Titanium is available for the same price as the 2.0-liter EcoBoost® Fusion with all-wheel drive. “Traditionally, car buyers have had to compromise when selecting between class-leading efficiency, premium amenities and value,” said Samantha Hoyt, Fusion Marketing manager. “The new Fusion Hybrid Titanium lets customers have it all.” In a sea of bland midsize segment choices, the flowing silhouette of the new Ford Fusion stands dramatically apart from the crowd – exuding confidence, sophistication and a dynamic attitude. Fusion Titanium models step it up a notch with standard front fog lamps, chrome accents on the door handles, rear deck spoiler and polished 18-inch alloy wheels. Once inside the Fusion Hybrid Titanium, drivers would be hard-pressed to guess that this is a mainstream family sedan. Technology and design are integrated in a manner that looks fantastic and works wonderfully. Both front seats get power adjustability, with the driver’s seat getting 10 directions from which to choose. All seats along with the steering wheel and shift lever are trimmed in leather. “All of the interior materials and surface finishes provide the sense of arriving at a destination,” said Gary Braddock, Fusion interior designer. “Metallic finishes on the door, instrument panel and center console are bright without being reflective, allowing the interior to look expensive without being ostentatious.” Controls fall readily to hand in the driver-oriented cockpit of the Fusion, and Titanium models get a 12-speaker Sony® audio system with HD Radio™. The award-winning SYNC® connectivity system is augmented with the enhanced voice control capability of MyFord Touch® along with SYNC Services on every Fusion Titanium. A rear view camera and Reverse Sensing System help to keep the driver aware of what is behind the Fusion while backing up. For night driving, an ambient lighting system provides a relaxing and pleasant cabin environment while an auto-dimming electrochromic rearview mirror ensures the driver is never blinded by other vehicles with bright headlights coming up from behind. Fusion’s new hybrid powertrain is activated by a push-button start so the key can stay in a pocket or purse. An advanced lithium-ion battery pack is one-third lighter than before but provides more power, enabling electric driving at speeds up to 62 mph. “With Fusion Hybrid Titanium, going green no longer means having an austere ride,” says Hoyt. “No guilt, no pain.” Fusion Hybrid Titanium will be available in early 2013. 22. Survey: Americans Go Slower, Choose Greener Goods Like New Fusion EcoBoost with $295 Auto Start-Stop Technology Recent survey shows 82 percent of Americans are paying more upfront for green products that save money longer term, as many drive slower and take other steps to conserve fuel New 2013 Ford Fusion offers hybrid-based Auto Start-Stop technology that shuts off the engine at stops to reduce fuel consumption in stop-and-go driving conditions If just 50,000 customers add the $295 Auto Start-Stop Fusion option, it could save more than 14 million pounds of CO2 emissions and nearly 1 million gallons of gasoline annually New Fusion is the first vehicle ever to offer the power of choice with fuel-efficient EcoBoost®, EcoBoost with Auto Start-Stop, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains Fusion Ecoboost Forum – Energy-efficient washers and dryers, solar panels, and the fuel-efficient 2013 Ford Fusion look to be hot green products this fall as a majority of Americans say they’re paying more upfront to save money over time. The all-new Fusion provides the power of choice – an automotive-first lineup of fuel-efficient EcoBoost®, EcoBoost with Auto Start-Stop technology, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain offerings. The Fusion with 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine is Ford’s first gasoline-powered vehicle in North America to offer the Auto Start-Stop fuel-saving technology – derived directly from advanced Ford hybrids, and a $295 option – with the convenience of a six-speed automatic transmission. “As American consumers continue to get greener, Ford is rapidly introducing more fuel-savin technologies to expand the power of choice for leading fuel economy across our lineup,” said Ford group vice president for Global Product Development Raj Nair. “The new Fusion with Auto Start-Stop technology is an affordable way for consumers to enjoy some hybrid benefits including improved urban fuel economy and cleaner air.” A Ford-commissioned survey by leading market research firm Penn Schoen Berlandalso found many American drivers are slowing down, coasting more to stops, and in some cases even slipstreaming behind larger vehicles to save gasoline. Based on $1,000 of discretionary income to spend on energy savings, 25 percent of the survey respondents would buy a vehicle with hybrid technology, with almost equal numbers choosing energy-efficient appliances or solar panels. Survey says… The study shows the significance of this greener attitude shift, as seven out of 10 drivers have changed their driving habits to become more fuel-efficient. This recently released research of American driver attitudes indicates the following trends: Saving money and helping the environment are top drivers of energy-efficient purchases Almost all respondents agree on the importance of fuel-efficient vehicles (95 percent), followed by energy-efficient appliances (93 percent) and light bulbs (85 percent) Seven of 10 respondents have changed their driving habits to save fuel Sixty-four percent drive less frequently, 41 percent have slowed down, and 10 percent say they draft behind larger vehicles to save fuel Thirty-two percent have done research to find cheaper fuel Twenty-one percent have purchased a new vehicle with improved fuel economy How it works Fusion represents the first North American non-hybrid Ford application of the Auto Start-Stop feature and the first to combine this technology with a gasoline engine and the convenience of an automatic transmission, making this accessible to the widest possible range of drivers. Auto Start-Stop switches off the gasoline engine when the vehicle is stopped in congested traffic, at stop signs and traffic signals. Seamlessly restarting when the driver releases the brake pedal, the system helps to save fuel and conserve the environment. Ford Auto Start-Stop can provide up to a 10 percent improvement in overall fuel efficiency, with a corresponding drop in tailpipe emissions. “This affordable system can provide real-world benefits such as saving money and helping preserve air quality,” Nair said. “For urban drivers, the more they stop, the more they save.” Start, stop, repeat, save Auto Start-Stop saves the fuel typically wasted when a car is standing and running at idle. Savings vary depending on driving patterns, but owners who spend most of the time in urban areas and city traffic will benefit the most – up to 10 percent. On average, Auto Start-Stop improves fuel efficiency by about 3.5 percent. If 50,000 Fusions were equipped with Auto Start-Stop, the improved efficiency would reduce annual CO2 emissions by more than 14 million pounds and 1 million gallons of gasoline. More broadly, a study by the United States Department of the Treasury estimates that congestion consumed an extra 1.9 billion gallons of fuel in 2011, approximately 5 percent of all the gasoline used. Studies show drivers encounter an average of 10 to 15 red lights and stop signs on a typical 20-mile commute, which can add from five to 15 minutes of idle time and wasted fuel. “We expect the average Fusion driver with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine and Auto Start-Stop can recover the $295 cost of this technology through real-world fuel savings in less than 18 months,” said Samantha Hoyt, Fusion Marketing manager. “That’s more cash in their pocket and more time saved with fewer trips to the pump.” The Auto Start-Stop engineering team has filed more than 25 patent applications for innovations developed in the electronic control strategy to ensure smooth and robust restarts. The system also monitors climate control settings and cabin temperature and humidity to ensure a comfortable environment for the driver and passengers. Power of choice On sale this fall, Fusion offers customers the power of choice with the broadest selection of fuel-efficient powertrains in the midsize car segment – two EcoBoost-powered gasoline engines, a normally aspirated four-cylinder engine, a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. Fuel economy includes: 2013 Fusion 1.6-liter EcoBoost with Auto Start-Stop: Delivering a projected 37 mpg highway 2013 Fusion Hybrid: Delivering at minimum a projected 47 mpg – 4 mpg better than the Toyota Camry Hybrid 2013 Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid: Delivering at minimum a projected 100 MPGe-plus rating – making it the world’s most fuel-efficient midsize sedan when it becomes available early in 2013
  23. 2013 Ford Fusion To Buy: 1.6-Liter EcoBoost Or Hybrid? John Voelcker / The Car Connection Picking powertrains used to be simple: straight-six or V-8? But consider the all-new 2013 Ford Fusion mid-size sedan that reaches dealers this fall: It comes with a base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, or you can pick from a choice of two different smaller, turbocharged EcoBoost fours, in 1.6- and 2.0-liter sizes. Then there's the 2013 Fusion Hybrid, and a new entry, the 2013 Fusion Energi (available later this year). 24. NASCAR Star Trevor Bayne Uses New Fusion EcoBoost Technology to Top Teammates by Nearly Posting 50 MPG New 2013 Fusion with 1.6-liter EcoBoost® engine and Auto Start-Stop fuel-saving technology is designed to achieve 37 mpg on the highway NASCAR star Trevor Bayne reaches nearly 50 mpg – the type of efficiency generally reserved for hybrids and small cars – to win Ford’s Fusion EcoBoost NASCAR Miles Per Gallon Challenge Bayne outdueled NASCAR superstars and teammates Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth by achieving 46.9 mpg at Ford’s Dearborn, Mich. test track, thanks in part to clever driving Ford Fusion Forum – Ford recently rounded up NASCAR superstars to race the new Fusion EcoBoost®. The twist: They were asked to hit the top miles per gallon, not miles per hour, with the winner nearly reaching the half-century mark. It was a hot day in August, with each driver hoping to beat the others and Fusion’s projected 37 mpg highway rating. New racing sensation and 2011 Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne fought off his Ford Racing teammates to win the race, called the Ford Fusion EcoBoost NASCAR Miles Per Gallon Challenge. Bayne achieved 46.9 mpg as he and all of the drivers used the car’s advanced fuel-saving technology to easily top its projected highway rating. Despite the best efforts of Sprint Cup Chase contender Greg Biffle, former champ Matt Kenseth and 2011 Chase runner-up Carl Edwards, Bayne “coasted” to victory in the new 2013 Ford Fusion with 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine despite being dubbed the underdog. “The guys were telling me this may be the only trophy I’ll ever get for driving slow,” said Bayne. “But I’m not going to take it that way; I think this shows Fusion is a powerful and fuel-efficient car and if handled with care and finesse, it can accomplish some amazing things.” Each driver was challenged to go around the 2.5-mile Ford Dearborn test track three times in 15 minutes and use the in-car calculator to compete for best gas mileage. Click to see a full video of the challenge. Click here to read more about the day of the event and the antics that took place between the drivers. The results Kenseth started the race by setting the bar high. He achieved 46.2 mpg. The playful yet competitive spirit kicked into high gear when Biffle showed up. He had to stop Kenseth from sabotaging his results by letting the air out of the tires, ultimately managing to achieve 46.0 mpg. “Kenseth is surprisingly tricky,” Biffle said. “But I think the real problem was that I accelerated too quickly at the start, and good fuel efficiency depends on steady increases of speed. “Luckily,” he continued, “I think both Edwards and Bayne will have major trouble not accelerating when they see the green flag wave, so I think I’m looking at a second-place finish.” Edwards, the driver known for post-win backflips off of his race car, fell victim to the heat by turning on the car’s air conditioning, yet still posted 42.2 mpg. Finally, it was Bayne’s turn. Bayne drew on the lessons of a recent real-life incident in which he almost ran out of gas in his truck. Using drafting techniques honed in racing, he nursed that truck to the gas station. Mirroring that gas-saving performance in his truck, Bayne was successful again, coasting to the finish line to post the top rating of 46.9 mpg, winning the Ford Fusion EcoBoost NASCAR Miles Per Gallon Challenge. Ford posted a and asked fans to guess the winner of the Ford Fusion EcoBoost NASCAR Miles Per Gallon Challenge at facebook.com/ford or facebook.com/fordfusion. Thousands of people responded, posting guesses and comments about who they thought would take home the honor of most fuel-efficient driver. Comments ranged from those with low expectations, like one particular Facebook user who commented, “Biffle, 15.329 mpg,” to the highly optimistic, where another Facebook user predicted Kenseth on top with 62.1 mpg. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost Ford Fusion is designed to achieve up to 37 mpg highway. Cutting wind, trips to the pump The new 2013 Fusion will save customers money at the pump with leading efficiency and aerodynamics, a key reason NASCAR stars keep putting the Ford Racing Fusion in the winner’s circle. To improve fuel efficiency, the new production Fusion features impressive aerodynamics refined by the technology used in designing the race car Fusion for NASCAR. Click to see a brief video discussing how an aerodynamic body shape enhances fuel efficiency and reduces wind noise. While race car drivers generally are more interested in miles per hour than miles per gallon, many races come down to which driver best balances speed with efficiency. A refuel at a pit stop can cost a racer multiple laps, so while a NASCAR driver’s goal is speed, he needs to manage the fuel he uses in order to prevent unnecessary stoppage time. After all, no one likes spending time at the pump. Another option in the new 1.6-liter EcoBoost Fusion is Auto Start-Stop, which switches off the gasoline engine when the vehicle is stopped in congested traffic, at stop signs and traffic signals. Seamlessly restarting when the driver releases the brake pedal, the system helps to save fuel and preserve the environment. The $295 cost of the new technology is expected to pay for itself in less than 18 months through real-world fuel savings.

Fusion Hybrid features two additional innovations to help deliver industry-best fuel efficiency: Ford’s patented SmartGauge® with EcoGuide that coaches drivers for top fuel efficiency; and ECO Cruise, a greener cruise control functionality that helps optimize powertrain elements for convenient yet economical highway travel. Fusion Hybrid achieves a top speed of 62 mph in electric or EV mode and also has Active Grille Shutters, which make the car more aerodynamic at highway speeds to improve fuel efficiency. An underbody with aerodynamically designed panels provides even better fuel efficiency. World-class craftsmanship, driving dynamics The full Fusion range delivers visual quality through improved materials, elevated levels of craftsmanship and attention to detail. To deliver its world-class driving dynamics, Ford engineers equipped Fusion with a specially tuned electric power-assisted steering system, MacPherson strut front suspension and all-new multilink rear suspension that is comparable to the setups found in more expensive Audis and BMWs. “Fusion is a driver’s car,” said Raj Nair, group vice president of Product Development. “We have carefully tuned this car to reward the driving expert and flatter the novice.” Ford’s quietest midsize sedan ever, Fusion Hybrid models are equipped with Active Noise Cancellation, which uses the audio system to mitigate powertrain noise. Technology you can use The all-new Fusion offers an unprecedented portfolio of driver assistance and convenience technologies using sensors, cameras and radar to enable the car to “see” and respond. Fusion can help drivers maintain proper lane position, adjust vehicle speed to changing traffic conditions, identify suitable parking spaces and practically park itself – it can even aid drivers backing out of a parking space in which visibility is obstructed. Specific technologies include: Lane-Keeping System: Using a small, forward-facing camera behind the inside rearview mirror, this system “looks” down the road, monitoring lane lines to determine that the car is on course. The system will alert a driver if drowsiness or erratic lane-keeping is detected. The second element warns a driver with a steering wheel vibration if the Fusion drifts too close to lane markings. Finally, Lane-Keeping Aid will actually apply pressure on the steering to help bring the car back into proper lane position Adaptive cruise control: Using forward-looking radar, this system “looks” down the road when activated, slowing the Fusion when slower traffic is detected ahead. The system can help slow the car if the potential of a crash is detected Active park assist: Employing sensors, this technology identifies a suitable parallel parking space, calculates the trajectory, and steers the car to properly position it within the spot. Drivers operate accelerator and brake pedals BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert: Sensors in both Fusion rear quarter-panels are able to detect traffic in a driver’s blind spot, providing both audible and visual warnings if traffic is detected. BLIS technology enables cross-traffic alert, warning the driver of oncoming traffic when backing out of a parking space with obstructed views, such as between two large vehicles The all-new Fusion also offers the newest version of Ford’s award-winning SYNC® communications and entertainment system, which enables voice-activated communication through a driver’s mobile phone and interaction with the car’s audio system. Fusion is available with the latest version of MyFord Touch®, allowing a driver to interact with vehicle systems through voice control, a touch screen tap or a conventional button. Both SYNC and MyFord Touch – powered by SYNC – help reduce the potential for driver distraction through voice-controlled functionality, allowing drivers to keep hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Fusion equals growth The midsize car segment is the fastest-growing segment in America this year. Overall U.S. industry sales are up 15 percent in 2012, while midsize car sales have grown 26 percent. To meet expected demand for the new Fusion, Ford is adding 1,200 hourly jobs and investing $555 million at its Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Mich. New Fusion models begin arriving at dealers nationwide this fall. Press releases, videos, photos and other material related to Ford’s electrified vehicles can be found here.
