  1. I have yet to figure out how "Peggy" became the nickname for "Margaret," but it often is. Is Cadillac a two syllable word or is it three?
  2. Diode, The Web site that was down Tuesday afternoon is now operational. Good advice on fuel tank fill-ups.
  3. That's weird and definitely a bummer. I don't have a clue. Maybe someone else on the forum can help. A call to the dealer might be in order. Sure hope it is an easy fix. No radio is the pits.
  4. The SEL AWD 17-inch wheel is also 7.5 inches wide, versus 7 inches on a regular SEL.
  5. Bob, Sorry to hear about your wife's health. Have a safe trip. Enjoy the MKZ. Boz
  6. From what I have read on this and other forums, the answer is yes, that is the normal rpm range for that speed. It's a lot less for a V6 with six-speed automatic transmission, however.
  7. Dyoct, What sort of in-city mileage do you get with your AWD Milan? How many miles on the car now?
  8. Boy, that some trip, Bob. Hope it is a safe and enjoyable one for your and your wife. Be sure to report back when you return. Are you going to use the Continental or the MKZ? Happy motoring, when you do go.
  9. Yeah, Falconman13, that's my best guess, too. Other V6 drivers, without the AWD, don't seem to have the mileage problem to the extent that we do. I'm guessing that our Fusion is never going to yield the EPA-estimated 17 mpg city just because of our short hops. Our normal miles per hour rating per tank is 20, which is pretty darn slow.
  10. Meelaan, We fill up about every two weeks. The last fill-up was Saturday, May 4, and it took 13.675 gallons ($38.00) to travel 256 miles, which included 120 miles of highway driving this time. The on-board computer showed 19.1 mpg while the long division method yielded 18.7 mpg. As near as I can determine, we are still getting approximately 14.8 mpg for in-city driving. I'm convinced, after the fact, that we should have ordered an SEL with an I4, manual or automatic, instead of buying the V6 with AWD, which we don't need, that was on the lot. This drivetrain combination is never going to deliver the revised EPA rating of 17 mpg city but did deliver the EPA estimate of 24 mpg on the one and only trip we took: 360 miles, which yielded 26 mpg going and 24 mpg returning.
  11. Allen, Yup, it is definitely stop-and-go driving just not bumper-to-bumper. The mph rating, which I record along with the mileage, is always 20 mph or less for each tank full. The car barely gets up to operating temperature and there are no highway runs during my wife's commute. Car rarely goes over five miles before it is stopped.
  12. Bill, SCT? Is that a tuner outfit? Everything works so well I'm leary about tinkering with it. Still, 14.8 mpg is pretty bad. Maybe it will improve with more miles. Have 2,800 on it now. Will probably wait until 5,000 before doing anything. It is, however, frustrating that in the year 2007 a 3-liter engine in a 3,300-pound car will not deliver 17-19 mpg in city driving.
  13. Meelaan, Foolish me, I actually believed the window sticker, the EPA-estimated 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and additionally believed the six-speed automatic transmission would make a mileage difference. There should be no reason why a 3,300-pound car in 2007 won't at least deliver that kind of mileage, but ours won't even though we've babied it. Since we bought the car Dec. 4, 2006, the EPA has revised its estimate for this power train, V6 AWD, downward, to 17 mpg city, 24 highway. Oh joy. Even so, we get no better than 14.8 mpg for all-city driving, which is 95 percent of our travel. It's very disheartening. We regret buying the V6 with AWD; should have bought an I4, 5-speed manual instead. Hindsight is always 20-20. I cringe every time I see a gasoline station. Other than the horrific mileage, the car is mostly fine, no problems yet at 2,800 miles. Some people say the car needs 5,000 miles to break in. I'll believe it when I see it. I am not optimistic at all. This was a $27,105 (MSRP) mistake at this point.
  14. Meelaan, I've read on this forum (or one of the other two that I participate in) that the AWD versions of the platform only have a 16.5-gallon tank. With my crummy in-city mileage (14.8 mpg) I start looking for a gas station as soon as the low fuel message appears, sometimes sooner. My last fill-up was for 13.641 gallons, meaning I had 2 gallons left, I guess.
  15. If you are concerned about mileage, forget the V6 AWD. The revised EPA rating for this power train is 17 mpg city 24 highway. Our 2007 SEL AWD never delivered more than 13 mpg city for the first 2,000 miles but has gradually improved to 14.8 at the 2,800-mile mark, which is still bad. Our terrain is flat. Our climate is moderate. The tires are properly inflated. My wife and I are both gentle, conservative drivers. The dealer tested our Fusion at 1,500 miles and found nothing wrong. On the only road trip we have taken with it, it averaged 26 going and 24 mpg returning. That was a 360-mile round trip. So, long story short, it does fine on the highway, for trips, but it is horrible in city driving, which is 95 percent of our travel.
  16. Chris, Thanks for your reply. We have an '07 with the antenna mast. I, too, am curious about its function. I would prefer a shark fin but can't get enough information to make a decision.
  17. Congratulations on your good mileage Ed and welcome to the forum. Everybody gets better mileage than we do: 14.8 mpg in all-city driving. Our terrain is flat. Our climate is moderate. The tires are properly inflated. We are conservative, gentle drivers. The mileage is still the pits. We have 2,800 miles on the car, purchased Dec. 4, 2006. We are very disappointed with the mileage.
  18. JLucas3, The I4s all seem to deliver the EPA estimate for city and highway driving, both the 2006s and 2007s. We have a 2007 SEL AWD that gets horrible gas mileage, 13 mpg for the first 2,000 miles. It has recently "improved" to 14.8 in all city driving. In hindsight, we should have bought an I4. We wouldn't recommend the V6 if you are at all concerned about mpg. The 2007s have side air bags, something not standard on the 2006s, but it could have been ordered as an option.
  19. I often wonder why a manufacturer eliminates or alters a perfectly good idea to make it a worse idea. The ignition switch you cited is a good example of a change that isn't so good. I am sure there plenty of others. Change for change's sake sometimes doesn't work out so well.
  20. CGNY, Ford's loss is Honda's gain. Enjoy your new car.
  21. Chris, Did you have the tint removed? Did that fix the problem? Tell us the details about how you found out the tint was causing the problem.
  22. You handled the situation correctly by not correcting her pronunciation, though you could have used the correct pronunciation in your reply. Something like, "No, my new car is a Mercury Milan but the Lincoln Zephyr is a nice car, too."
  23. Welcome to the forum Zeke. I can't help with your problem but maybe someone else on the forum can. Keep us updated. Enjoy the forum.
