  1. Thanks fusionff. That helps a bunch. Time to start looking.
  2. Hello, I have a 2007 Milan with the 2.3L and 5-speed manual. I've began looking for swap information as the 2.3L has started using oil at the rate of about 2 quarts per 3000-4000 oil change intervals. I have (had) a kind of heavy foot in first and second gears and it must have been lower on oil than I thought one day on my way to the redline as it's started knocking very mildly above 3000 rpm and at very light throttle application. It's a daily driver so I'm looking at the quickest, easiest swap. Most 23EW engines like mine are probably going to need rebuilt as well so I'd like to find a good low mile 2.5L to power up with. I gathered from some of the posts that the 2.5L throttle body is a no-go with the 2.3L wiring. Are there any other known snags? Also, is it possible to use a 2.5L from a more plentiful automatic transaxle application?
  3. Thank you very much! Now that I have the illustration I'll be able to figure out where both plugs are located and what need to come off to access them. Looks like I'd better get a fluid pump. As I mentioned parenthetically, the car is much more fun to drive now that the engine isn't rocking fore and aft like a drunken sailor as I row through the gears. The first time I drove it after the torque link was installed I "accidentally" chirped second gear leaving work. It's much easier to maintain a smooth steady speed in all gears as well. I'm hoping to notice a difference after changing the fluid, but if not the Steeda shifter bracket and and round shift ball will certainly change it up from the long throw and snake head factory knob. I'm having fun! after that, I'd like to adapt a flat shifter stick and new rubber accordion boot attached from under the console top. Then maybe a chrome "Hurst Equipped" emblem on the trunk lid?????? MHF
  4. Forgive me if I didn't find it but I need help changing the fluid in my 2007 Milan with the G5M trans. I had it going in the install bay where I work, to replace the torque link (HUGE improvement in the driving experience, but that's another story) so I thought I'd have them do that as well. They place I work is off-road and mall crawler centric so they don't have a lot of experience with cars like this. They politely declined to tackle that part of the work order. What components need to be removed to access the drain and fill plugs? I have 3 quarts of Amsoil GL-4 waiting to go in it.
  5. Thank you. I can't access any of that information without paying a fee to get it. I'll figure it out on my own somehow.
  6. I've searched every way I can think of to find a tutorial for removing the console in a 2007 Merc. Milan with a 5-speed manual. Does anyone know where I can find the information? I've also looked on forums for Mazda 6s as well with no luck. I can't even find a starting point! I see no exposed fasteners of any kind. I tried popping out the cup holder liner but it's stuck fast. One of the Mazda forums mentioned some screws in the well beside the lighter/power supply but I could see or feel nothing in there either. I want to get started with short shifter mods but I'm stumped on getting access to the shifter mechanism.
  7. Thanks, you know a car guy likes something if he buys the same thing twice. The new torque link will arrive shortly (ebay purchase about 1/3 the price as the local parts stores). I'd love to buy the nice billet aluminum one from one of our advertisers, but I can't justify spending that much for something hidden underneath the car no matter how it improves the shifting or power delivery. I am however going to fill all the voids in the O.E. replacement with RTV silicone adhesive and large steel washers to stiffen it up a bit.
  8. I'd like to buy a used manual shiter to fit a 2007 Mercury Milan. I want to modify the stick to narrow the gate, shorten the throw and accept a bolt on Hurst stick. The condition of the white plastic part wont really matter, so don't count yours out if you have one that's damaged there. MHF
  9. Hello all, I joined some time ago after the purchase of a 2007 Milan 2.3 MTX. http://www.fordfusionforum.com/topic/5561-ive-joined-the-club/?do=findComment&comment=39311 Unfortunately, after 15K miles I totalled it. The situation required the quick purchase of another vehicle or pay another weeks rent on the car I drove while the insurance company assessed the damage. Finding a vehicle you like takes time and I couldn't find another so I bought the lowest mile car I could find (it was Sunday and only one dealership open). I spent the next 4 years hating the 03 buick century I bought. Now I'm back in a Milan 5-speed manual and I love it! This one's a Premier, but has 93K instead of 33K. I'm finding it hard to drive smoothly so I think it needs the torque link replaced. I hear a subtle "thunk" noise coming from the floor when I move from a stop and sometimes when I shift. There are a few other things I need to address, some done already...cracked taillight lense, missing centercap, iron out a few shallow dents, get rid of a squeak in the front when I hit a bump with turning right, sunroof that doesn't close flush with the roof...small stuff. MHF
  10. Do you still have the Merc logos, or did you pitch them ?
  11. I have a chance to buy a set of 17 X 7 Eagle Alloy polished 192 series with Goodyear 225/55-17 tires for a very good price. Does anyone here have any experience with these wheels or that size tire ? My car is 2007 Milan 2.3L MTX. The tires are advertised as 26.8 inches tall. I know my speedometer would be reading about 4.1% slow, but I'm wondering if it would cause any ECM issues or clearance problems. Thanks, MHF My link
  12. Sigmaman, now that I've got it home in the garage and have had a chance to look at it I agree. When the weather breaks here, I'm going to give it a good scrub, look for places that need a touch-up, clay the paint and bring up a good deep shine. I work with a guy that has a black HHR SS and he's absolutely fanatical about keeping his looking good. I was amazed when he told me his regimine. When the weather is dry, it's daily use of the car duster, weekly or semi-weekly wash, spray wax every other week, paste wax once a season and strip the wax and polish once a year. Not as bad as I would have thought. Maybe if I buy him a lunch he'll divulge which chemicals he uses........or I could just look up his purchases on the computer at work We work for a company the sells Meguire's, Mother's, Adams, California Car Duster...ect. detailing products MHF
  13. Thanks for the welcomes. After a few days of driving the Milan back and forth to work, I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed ! It flies through 1st gear about as fast as any car I've owned in the past 15 years and second is pretty quick as well. I thought I'd be downshifting a lot on the highway, but just opening the throttle gives me plenty to navigate around the slower traffic. I know I'll get used to it eventually and want more but I'm lovin' it right now. The first thing I'm noticing is how long the throws are on the shifter. The Steeda 555-7235 kit should take care of that. Has anyone here tried it ? MHF
  14. Yes, mine came with the optional name package as well. MHF
  15. Hello all. After months of searching I finally bought a 2007 Milan 2.3L 5-speed with 33,000 miles. Ironically, it was the first one I test drove way back last year. I wasn't wild about the color, it was slightly out of reach from a cost standpoint so I let it pass. Manual transmission cars have a way of staying on dealer's lots around here and they finally dropped the price. I signed the papers this afternoon. I knew when I drove it I had to have one. The car has ample power, (I'll work on that later) plenty of comfortable room and I like the slightly more understated Milan styling. It's the base model, so it's cloth interior fewer bells and whistles but I like it. Future plans include dual outlet V6 exhaust, alloy wheels, and maybe a color change. I really like the later model Atlantis Green metallic which I think would look good with the light tan interior. MHF
