  1. Hello - saw this post and had a question. I have a 2010 Fusion SEL. I have both my original keys but one just stopped being able to start the car. I can still lock and unlock the doors with it, but when starting, the key turns dash lights up but no starting. Anything I can do with just the one key to get the bad one to work again? Thanks
  2. Just to clarify - the noise was heard when the car was stopped in park. Just want to know if others hear fan noise in this condition or should I make sure it is fixed before I buy it.
  3. I test drove two 2019 Hybrids (SEL and Titanium). In the Titanium I heard fan noise that sounded like it was from the infotainment system (it wasn't the climate control fan). I don't remember hearing this when driving an SEL hybrid and when we went back to the SEL, it didn't make the noise when I furned it on (didn't drive it again). It wasn't very load (like a computer fan) but since the car is so quiet it was noticeable. Is this normal? Thanks for any responses>
  4. Problem solved - not cheap or easy. It turned out that a remanufactured cylinder head fixed the problem. Once I ran out of simple parts to replace I checked the lifter to cam clearance for the exhaust and intake valves. The number 1 cylinder had no clearance at all. Other exhaust valves were out of spec (low) but still had clearance. I got a rebuilt head from Rock Auto. (Too out of spec to buy different clearance lifters. It wasn't cheap - about $400 for the head, $150 for head gasket. New head bolts and lots of hours but engine runs great, no codes and mileage back up to 30.5MPG. Even passed emissions. Sort of disappointing for a 175K mile engine. We'll see if my wife's car with 130k
  5. Sorry I never noticed my profile was out of date - have 2 fusions (liked my wifes 2010 SEL so much I bought a 2010 S, Saved on Manuals) It was late when I posted - I have already replaced the injector too. Didn't fix the problem. I will look at the PCM end of the plug for the coil. Thanks
  6. Having a persistant P0301 code - misfire cylinder 1. Can feel the engine sometimes run rough - at idle or on the highway. Dealer said to replace all plugs and cylinder 1 coil pack. Did it myself - still got the code. Checked Compression and it was 175 on cylinder 1. Others were similar. I checked the fuel pressure. It is good at 58 psi. Usually steady. Once saw it rapidly fluctuate from 52 - 60 but didn't seem to run differently. (side note - used a Harbor Frieght pressure kit. Left it hooked up for about a 45 mile round trip so I could stop and check the pressure periodically (at idle in drive, with parking brake and block under front wheel) if I felt it running rough. Always was steady at 58 psi. At the end of the trip noticed gas smell. The test hose had torn and was leaking. Would not recommend buying Harbor Freight junk again.- not safe. Any suggestions on what else to try. I'm way overdue on emissions testing. Thanks Ed Attached are my code diagnostics from 2 instances of the freeze-frame data for the codes. Once at highway speed and once at idle. P0301 code 1st capture.pdf P0301 code 2nd capture.pdf
  7. One of the car had the fault clear on it's own for a day but now it's back. The vaccum values that I see on both when you look at the stored data seem plausible. (They vary from code to code and don't seemed pegged like I'd expect from a totally failed sensor). Strange both failed at once. One car has about 45K less miles than the other. I'm going to read up on the codereader I have to see if I can view the data live during a run cycle to see how it looks. Thanks Ed
  8. Brought both my 2010 Fusions 2.5L in for Recall work 15s34. Both passed and had the module reprogrammed. Now both have P1450 code with check engine light. I also have one that had a check gas cap message on the dash with the P0457 code. Sort of wondering if the recall reprogramming isn't up to snuff. Anyone with similar experience? Haven't contacted the dealer yet but will soon. I'd like to have some info from this community if there is any to be armed with. Thanks Ed
  9. I have a 2010 Fusion S (very basic) with 150K miles on it. The boots on all the lower ball joints are torn so I was going to replace them. Other boots on things like tie rod, upper ball joint look OK but I'm not sure if they will last or if the joint is worn underneath. Anyone know the life expectancy of the front end components including the struts? Ride didn't feel too bad - just noticed problem when I was rotating tires. ( I was getting what sounded like a lot of tire noise after about 17K on my new Michelins). Was thinking of going with OEM parts but any suggestions on that front are welcome as well. Thanks Ed
  10. New information - I took a look under the car while I had it up on Jackstands for a brake job. I noticed that one of the two small hoses (the one below where the main fill connects at the end where you put the gas in) just runs down to the wheel well area and just stops. I could not see where it would connect to. It looks like someone just tucked it up behind the other hose after disconnecting it. Anyone know where this connects?
  11. Crystal - I have 143K miles on the car. I got it in the spring with 128k miles. I've had the fuel smell intermittently since I got it, although there was some early interior odor that I had to cure with trays of charcoal brickets that covered it up more in the beginning. I'm the only one who puts gas in it and I never "top it off" after I fill it. AKirby- I thought of replacing the evap canister but was wondering if replacing it without also replacing the vapor canister purge valve. Also -from what I've read, it seems like there are a number of tests performed by the PCM of the EVAP system that would check for different types of leaks. Therefore I'm surprised that I have not seen any codes or pending codes if the system was leaking enough for me to smell gas.
  12. I have a 2010 Fusion I purchased last spring. I have been smelling gas but have no codes. It seems more pronounced in stop and go driving than the highway. Comes and goes but isn't related to filling tank. Just had it the other day and only had 1/4 tank and not filled recently. Any ideas?
  13. My wife recently hit a large rock and took out the muffler, bent the floor and cracked the oil pan. I finally finished repairing it. She drove it to work (about 35 miles and about 7 miles into the ride going up hill and she said the car hesitated / stalled momentarily. It only happened once but I'm worried that it might be a real problem about to happen. I had to disconnect the battery for a few days to do the repair. Besides this I only disconnected the Mass Airflow Sensor in the Engine Compartment and took out the center console and the passenger seat. Is there a chance the computer control reset while driving and caused a temporary stall?
  14. The lock on the driver side seems jammed. I can't open the door from the inside. The manual lock handle in the door will not move in either direction when you press the automatic button to lock or unlock. The other doors work. I tried the key and it also will not move. Is this the broken handle I've read about or is it something else. Thanks Ed
  15. I'm looking for a good manual for my Fusion. I wouldn't mind getting the factory service manual. Any suggestions on a good place to get one.
