  1. Sadly, the I-4 in the 2010-2012MY Fusion is not flex-fuel, so I can't try E85...otherwise I'd chime in and see if makes any difference in my car.
  2. Steener, I'm in the same boat. 20k miles past rebuild with continued flare 2-3 and harsh 1-2. When the transmission is hot after extended driving, the 1-2 is downright awful. Like getting hit in the rear by a small car at low speeds. Occasionally, a 5-4 or 6-5 gets completely waffled for a few seconds, but it is mostly isolated to upshifts. The car keeps passing pressure tests and everything, and it hasn't turned the transmission fluid black again, so I'm inclined to accept it as it now is, until the end of my 75k/5yr extended care warranty. It does seem Ford has decided some noticeable flare is normal on 2-3 at times, based on my interactions with CS and techs. And the unit has never failed to shift, so I'm not really all that worried.
  3. My 2012 I4 was back at Ford this week for similar issues. Harsh 1-2, flared 2-3, and occasional harshness and flares at higher gears too. It has been updated repeated on various TSBs, plus it had a rebuild with new valve body and clutches at 10k miles. Each time Ford updates the software it gets a little better, but never resolves. However, thankfully, it has not required further rebuilds, and continues to pass pressure tests and is allegedly within specs on computer diagnostics. So basically I've just resigned myself having it flare or otherwise act weird enough that I decide to bring it (about every 6-9 months) to get the software updated and have them tell me it still isn't "broken" again yet. In my case, since even before it had the rebuild it was still completely serviceable just flaring all over the place, I've concluded the failure mode is pretty benign and isn't likely to leave me stranded without significant notice. The consolation for my troubles was a 5yr/75k extended care warranty, and I intend to drop this car as soon as those limits approach. Shame, too, because I love everything else about it. First car that fit me like a glove.
  4. My 2012 w/6F35 makes a high pitched whine under similar circumstances. It isn't a jingling on my car, more off a fingernails on synthetic fabric noise. The first dealership replaced gears in the final drive assembly trying to fix it, while dealing with my regulator valve issue. It persisted. The second dealership checked several other new cars on their lot and they all exhibited a whine. Their conclusion, along with the conclusion they got from Ford, was that is is normal behavior. Annoying, but normal.
  5. Check for water in your trunk. My last car (a Pontiac) used to get wicked interior condensation and frosting whenever water got into the truck due to some leaks the car eventually developed. In their infinite wisdom, GM welded the bung plug shut, so getting it out was interesting.
  6. Yeah, I get 33-35mpg with cruise on long distance runs at 65-75mph. If I don't use cruise it is more like 30-33. But at these speeds, 30mpg is perfectly reasonable.
  7. Although he is using an expensive camera with a CMOS sensor, that is not why it worked so well. He's just a talented photographer. (Fellow photographer). A good photographer can make images like this with a much lesser camera. JonesSoda, nice work. It really is a great picture of the Fusion!
  8. The highway mileage sounds normal. The other mileage not so much. Did you buy the car new? How many miles/kilometers on it? Do you use winter/summer tires or all seasons? Are you using different rims than the car came with? Transmission shifting right? Air filter look good? Nothing nesting in the air box? Don't laugh, I've had animals take up shop in weirder places.
  9. "In my case, the most comfortable seats I've ever had in a car, was in my 1994 T-bird. No car, before or after has been as comfortable at that car. (How many people remember the T-Birds of that era, which were RWD but with IRS?) Never had an iota of problems (wait, see below) with that car, but I just needed a 4door, so I had to trade the 2door T-Bird." Oh gosh YES! Even though I suffered through a blown head gasket, that underpowered Essex, rusting rocker panels, and almost constant window regulator replacements, I still miss my '93 T-bird (V6 LX). It was the single most comfortable car to drive or ride in (in the front seats) I have ever encountered. The driver's seat was almost perfect, aside from the vinyl, and I'd pay good money for that kind of comfort today. And, the car was very comfortable to drive, as mine was pre-airbags and had a narrow steering wheel that didn't cramp my hands like modern ones do. Wonderful cars, despite their flaws. One reason I bought my 2012 Fusion was because it was the first car I felt anywhere near as happy with the ergonomics. Aside from the heating controls being too low, and that stupid handle on the driver's side, almost everything is exactly where I want it.
  10. What's the number? When did it start? City or highway? Lead foot? Any known mechanical or body damage? Did you modify anything? Feel like your brakes are sticking? Answers to questions like these could help explain it.
  11. Recalls are pretty common during the first model year after a new platform introduction, redesign, or major refresh. That's the price you pay for being an "early adopter."
  12. If they are giving it free, take it. Take anything Ford CS offers. I might try to get an extended warranty instead, but don't turn it down if you still want the car.
  13. Measure the gaps with a ruler. Take pictures. Then call Ford CS. Tell them what the dealer said. They're not particular helpful when the issue is with the car, but they do scare the dealers enough that the dealers have suddenly become more helpful every time I've involved them in a situation.
  14. Must be, because their old interval with non-synthetic was like ~30k, if I recall correctly.
