  1. I've posted in the past couple months about my on going saga to seek and destroy the ticking noise coming from my upper valvetrain which started at about 14K, I'm now at 28k at it's still there! I initially took it in to the dealer at about 19k and they told me there is an acceptable amount of mechanical noise to be expected. I told them this is my third I-4 cylinder fusion and I have a pretty in depth knowledge of these particular vehicles; such as the bad blower bearing which ford has yet to change that supplier obviously as mine is already starting to squeak in my 2011 fusion. There are no oil level issues, I'm using MotorCraft parts and oil. The noise was first noticable when I started my vehicle then it subsided, that is not the case now. It's always there now taunting me to diagnose it. The motor sounds like a small diesel which is tired and old already. Now some other posts were talking about there ticking being attributed to the fuel injectors? How is that, when a noise is usually mechanical? Are today's injector's mechanical? Others have also told me that it might be the silent chain tensioner. Anyone ever heard of that being the cause of a tick in the upper valvetrain? I have one on my snowmobile and have had to tighten it before but it wasn't becasue it made a ticking noise. Looking for any help here before I have to go back to dealer yet again.
  2. Thanks for the input everyone, I think I'm at eliminating the variables as stated above. I purchase a MotorCraft filter and oil today. We'll see what happens.
  3. I'm on my third fusion and all of them have had the bad fan bearing. Very disappointed that Ford still hasn't done anything about this very common problem. Hey Ford, get rid of that vendor already.
  4. So a couple topics below I was explaining about my cold start knocking noise. Other forum members told me that the oil shop that I get my oil changed at probably used a generic oil filter with no anti drain back valve and that could probably be the issue. The noise subsides when the engine warms up. Climbed under my 2011 fusion and found they installed a purolator V241 oil filter. So yes it looks like they tried to save some money and installed an off brand filter. When I googled the filter, the specs show that the filter does have a anti drain back valve. So now my next question is, are there manufactures that make better anti drain back valves than others? It is my understanding that the motor craft has a silicone valve. This benefits me how? I'm not talking about filtering capabilities, just the valve. I just purchased a Motor Craft oil filter, but is that going to be any different and if so why? Because of the silicone valve? Looking for a little education on this. Seems like I'm splitting hairs.
  5. Thanks for the input everyone. Didn't realize the vast difference in the Motor Craft Filter. Will definitely either go to the dealership or do it myself from here on out. My 2008 fusion had the cartridge filter, I would imagine its the same on the 2011 2.5? To remove the cartridge oil filter cap, did you buy the special socket or just use a strap wrench to loosen and tighten?
  6. My 2011 fusion 2.5L started knocking or loud tick when you start it cold. Didn't do this the first 14K but now the winter months are here and when I do have to leave my car outside at night the next morning turning the engine over there is a loud ticking or knock. This noise continues until the engine warms up and the ticking subsides to a quieter upper valve train sounding tick. Oil level if fine, I'm using the recommended 5W-20. Tried an oil treatment at my last oil change to see if that would quiet the noise down but no success. I heard something about a back valve in motorcraft oil filters that help eliminate the chatter coming from the upper valve train. I'm not sure if the place where I get my oil changed uses a generic or not. I now have 19k on it and the engine just sounds old and tired at idle when I roll the window down to listen. Any ideas besides looking into see if I have a motorcraft oil filter?
  7. I'm having the same issue with my 2011 2.5L. Cold starts bring about a loud ticking to a knocking sound, but after warming engine up after 5 minutes it dissipates to a slight ticking. Brought it into the dealership but engine was warm. I could notice the slight ticking as this is my third fusion, but the mechanic said there is some upper valve train noise that is at acceptable levels. I'll have to leave it there overnight and let them do a cold morning start on it. Any update 95blklsc?
