  1. I heard the exact same thing! It sounded like a broken shock but more subdued. The only ways I could reproduce it was to drive on a bumpy road at different speeds but usually only at around 60 km.

The other way was to physically grab the tire with both hands at the top and give it a rocking motion to and fro. Takes a lot of force. A soft clunking/thump can be felt, almost like one of the lug nuts are loose.

Hard to reproduce at Ford because they're not about to repeat my same action, and their road test could not duplicate the sound. They didn't doubt me though and they put it on the lift. Make an appointment and they will check it out. Replaced some shock part under warranty. Not sure what it was because the work order was kind of vague. I'll look to see if there is a part number.

  2. I'd see it as a safety reserve.

If the next service station is far away, you'd probably make it without running out of fuel and leaving you stranded.

That being said, if there is a known problem about this like "akirby" said, then I'd look into that.

  3. well my phone camera doesnt have a flash, so nothing too cool to look at, but heres what it looks like from the driver's seat.

It sure gives an idea... how about a shot looking from the driver's view, whole dash...

Picture is good enough to see!

  4. Well it's almost complete, I still need to bolt the outlet to something secure beneath the dash. Right now it's just held with some 3m double sided foam tape. I spliced into the console cigarette lighter and added another outlet under the dash, ran the GPS wire up between the windshield and the pillar (I mount my GPSin the lower left of the windshield) and I'll be damned if it didn't work. I'm not mechanically handicapped or anything, but I'm not exactly "inclined" either. I know lots of people hardwire gps and radar in, but I don't know the first thing about electrical systems, and I'd rather not fry my car or my GPS, and I figured having the stock 12v plug from the GPS was a lot safer than trying to cut it and figure out which wires go where and if any fuses needed to be added. I was going to use a fuse tap, but I couldn't find one small enough to work on the interior fuse box. Other than the fact that the outlet under the radio isn't switched I'm ecstatic. Took me all of an hour to complete, but it'd take half that now that I realize there aren't any screws holding the center console plastic in place. Hardest part was threading the GPS power line up to the dash from underneath. I'll take a photo tomorrow, but it won't show much. If you're on the fence I can tell you it's easy as pie. Just remember the grey/red wire is positive (center stud on an aftermarket cigarette lighter outlet) and the black/white wire is negative. I bought 14ga stranded wire but it looks like ford used 18 or 20ga wire, so you can save a few cents there. Total cost was ~ $15 buying at home depot and autozone, 4 feet of wire (2ft each of black and red) an aftermarket outlet, and a pack of these handy dandy plastic splicing deals. Didn't know they existed, but they made life easy. No cutting wires, just put it over the existing wire, add the wire to be spliced in and crimp. Oh and do yourself a favor, disconnect the battery before trying this. It should be pretty tough to zap yourself, but better safe than sorry.

    Anxious to see!
