  1. Thought I'd activate this old thread rather than start a new one. This is a recent Trans Fluid (Mercon LV) analysis for the 6F35 Trans in my 2011 Fusion SEL after 66,000 miles. When I asked the Dealer to drain and fill because the fluid was black, they told me it wasn't necessary until it reached 150,000 miles. So I did a drain and fill myself and sent a sample to Blackstone Labs. It seems to have a high amount of Aluminum and Iron. The Lab also commented on the possibility of coolant. But, I don't know how that could happen. The transmission is performing fine for the most part. Any comments?
  2. I know this post is a month old. But, I had that problem and using the gas funnel included by the tire change kit in the trunk, I was able to clean the filler hole and spring loaded cap. I also took a rag and with my finger went around the rim to clean it. That removed any dirt and the code went out after driving a little while. Hasn't been back on, since. Doesn't take much dirt from a gas nozzle to set off that code.
  3. I had the positive terminal on my 2011 SEL look like that two months ago. I bought some battery terminal cleaner in a spray can at the auto parts store and used a toothbrush to clean it all off. I cut the bottom off a gallon jug so I could wash the terminal after scrubbing, then wash again with the corrosion laden water draining into the jug bottom, and not onto the car. Took me about two hours or so to get it all off. The baking soda will work, but I think the spray product works better in removing the copper oxide. After thoroughly and meticulously cleaning that terminal, It's working fine and looks completely clean. The problem with those OEM Motorcraft batteries is that they can crack or leak around the positive terminal. I've never had a battery that lasted less than five years before. But, that battery was spent. And, the cover over the positive terminal prevents you from seeing the corrosion unless you specifically look. With the new battery, I used the spray battery terminal protector on each terminal to minimize the possibility of it happening again. Edited to Add: I didn't notice any fuses or CBs on that terminal while I was cleaning it or after it was cleaned. Looked just like a large terminal block with multiple connections.
  4. In a moderate to severe accident, that vehicle is equipped with a automatic fuel pump shut-off switch that may activate. The reset button is located on the passenger side, under and behind the glove box near the corner of the foot well. Look up behind the glove box to see it. (use a mirror if necessary) Then push the reset button in. It should at least turn over. Are you using the programmed key for that car?
  5. Check out this thread on the power steering recall: http://www.fordfusionforum.com/topic/13792-power-steering-recall/
  6. On occasion, I will hear a single chime while driving my 2011 Fusion SEL. No light lights up in the dash cluster. Sometimes it's shortly after I start the engine. Other times its when I've been driving for a while (45minutes or so). It's not seatbelt, because I don't start the car until it's buckled. It's happened with and without a (seatbelted) passenger. Two of the times for a fraction of a second, I saw a red flash in the dash cluster, but it stays on so short I can't tell what light it might be. The other times I noticed no warning flash. This does not happen with cruise control on, and there's no adaptive cruise or anything like that. It's not a beeping sound like the radar blind spot or backup system, either. Next time it's in the shop for any maintenance I will ask them about it and have them check for DTCs. I was just wondering if anyone else had had this issue, and know what it is. Edited to Add: I have checked the Owners Manual for what it might be, and the only thing it states is if the Airbag light doesn't work it may chime. The Airbag light does work (and is yellow, not red). It comes on with the rest of the lights, briefly when I start the car.
  7. Well, the VIN for my 2011 Fusion SEL is on the recall at Ford site. I've had chimes occur when I was driving, but didn't know if this is when a Diagnostic Trouble Code is set. I guess I'll find out. Here is a portion of the recall notice for my vehicle... (the other parts describe the failure somewhat in detail and the risk to safety.) Ford Recall Number: 15S18 Remedy Program: OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A FORD OR LINCOLN DEALER TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM) CHECKED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS). IF NO LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST DTCS ARE PRESENT, DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE PSCM SOFTWARE. THE UPDATED PSCM SOFTWARE WILL PROVIDE STEERING ASSIST FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DRIVE CYCLE IF A MOTOR POSITION SENSOR ENCODER FAULT OCCURS, AND A CLUSTER WARNING AND CHIME WILL BE PROVIDED. UPON SUBSEQUENT VEHICLE START-UPS, IF MULTIPLE FAULTS HAVE BEEN VERIFIED, STEERING ASSIST WILL BE REMOVED AND A CLUSTER WARNING AND CHIME WILL BE PROVIDED. IF ANY LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST DTCS ARE PRESENT, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR. IF A VEHICLE HAS THE PSCM SOFTWARE UPDATED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS FIELD ACTION, AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST OCCURS AT A LATER DATE, THE OWNER WILL BE ABLE TO RETURN THEIR VEHICLE TO A FORD OR LINCOLN DEALER TO HAVE THE STEERING GEAR REPLACED IF IT OCCURS WITHIN A PERIOD OF 10 YEARS FROM THE WARRANTY START DATE FOR THE VEHICLE OR 150K MILES, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. FORD PROVIDED THE GENERAL REIMBURSEMENT PLAN FOR THE COST OF REMEDIES PAID FOR BY VEHICLE OWNERS PRIOR TO NOTIFICATION OF A SAFETY RECALL IN FEBRUARY 2015. THE ENDING DATE FOR REIMBURSEMENT ELIGIBILITY IS DECEMBER 31, 2015. FORD WILL FORWARD A COPY OF THE NOTIFICATION LETTERS TO DEALERS TO THE AGENCY WHEN AVAILABLE. Status: 12 - RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVILABLE.
  8. Yep, I mentioned this in the Evaporative Emission Purge Valve thread. The dealer just used the funnel from the trunk. Pushed it in and out of the filler neck a few times, and apparently cleaned out any gunk or dirt on the seal. The tech also said I could use a rag on a stick to clean the seal. Engine light hasn't come back on yet. The code was P0456. {Evaporative Emission Leak (very small Leak)}.
  9. Just had my 2011 Fusion 2.5 Engine light come on. I checked with my own scan tool and saw the P0456 Evaprorative Emission (Very Small Leak). Thought it would be covered by the emission warranty, so brought it to Ford Dealer. They charged me $127 to diagnose the P0456 code, and run some tests that failed. However, they couldn't find any leak. So the said they used the funnel that is in the trunk for the Capless Gas Filler Tube, and pushed the funnel in and out a few times to clean the seals there. Rechecked and it passed. No Leaks. they drove the car around for 24 miles and no engine light or leaks. When they called they said it's not covered by emission warranty, but would not charge me for cleaning the seal and the test drive to verify it was fixed. They also said you can just use a rag with a stick and go around the seal in the Gas Filler Tube, and that would work, too. Still had to pay for the diagnostic fee, though. Thought I'd post this, because If you have the Capless Filler Neck, try cleaning down around the seal first. It's the cheapest. Those scan tools are cheap, and can save big bucks. Now I know I might just as well try fixing these things myself.
  10. Yep, I just received this letter for my 2011 2.5 Fusion SEL. Haven't had any problems with it so far, but put the letter in the glove box for future use if necessary. Currently it has about 40,000 mi. And, Dean, it's also the best sedan I've ever owned, also.
  11. I have the 2011 SEL and had a very similar problem. After I bought the car I noticed it pulled to the left and the steering wheel was not centered. I brought it in to the dealer and they said they adjusted the air in the tires and gave it back to me. The steering wheel was still off center and it still pulled to the left, and it also handled poorly if it was driven at highway speeds around a slow gradual curve... especially if there was a small dip in the road. It felt like the rear would slide out sort of, although there was no sliding. It just had poor handling. The second time I brought it in the service manager asked if he could take it home for the night to drive it. I let him and then they corrected the off-center steering wheel, and said they aligned the wheels. Although the steering wheel was corrected, it still pulled and handled poorly. The third time I brought it in I wrote out exactly what the problem was with the handling, and the pulling to the left, and had also noticed that the rear wheels seemed to have excessive negative camber. You could see it when standing behind the vehicle. I wrote this in the note and also noted that the other cars on the lot didn't appear to have this much negative camber. I gave the note to them when they wrote up the service request. The service manager looked at it and agreed that the rear wheels seemed to be out compared to the other Fusions and said they were waiting on a suspension specialist from Ford to look at it. After five days in the shop, they said it was fixed and it was. Since it was under warranty, the service paperwork didn't say much other than to state that the negative camber was corrected and the Fusion had a Full Alignment. The car has driven like a dream since. Excellent handling, no pulling, just like you'd expect. So, my comment after all this is, if the car doesn't seem like it's handling properly, be persistant, and calm. Ford does want you to be happy in their product, and it is an excellent vehicle.
