Maybe I'll try to call my Ford dealer. From the looks of it the intake manifold needs to come off. Its hard to believe any spark plug is good for 100,000. With gas being so expensive, I'm trying everything I can think of for better efficiency. - Woody

Well, an update. My guess is at best I am getting a 1 to 2 mpg increase with the K&N. I did notice a BIG improvement when we got into the warmer weather. I was getting around 21-22 mpg on my commute in the winter (below 32 degrees F), but when the temps stay above 32 degrees F, I am getting 25-27 mpg. - Woody

Does anyone know what parts need to come out to change the 3 spark plug closest to the firewall? (The 3 in front are obvious.) Does just the Intake manifod need to come out? - Woody

Well just an update. I have not forgot about my experiment. In my type of driving, and commute I get between 20.4 and almost 23 (21.8) mpg. I got the K&N filter, and will probably install this afternoon. I'll post back with I get. Mando - did you reset your ecm (car computer) after the install? - Woody

Just an update. I was going to take advance of the warm weather (22 degrees F) and install my intake. Once I got into the job, I can see in Ford's infinite wisdom they made it next to impossible to install a generic cone filter. I am going to look around, I will either have to install a CAI made specificialy for the Fusion V6, or just do a high-flow filter, K&N or other. - w

Woody, Yes I will do this. I filled up my gas tank. I will run at least one tank thru before I put on my generic cone filter, and re-figure MPG. For most cars, its a no brainer. High flow air filters usually give a small bump in performance, and sometimes a bump in mpg for very little cost. To do it right I expect I will have to reset the computer. - w

Hi. I just traded my 06 Aveo in for a 06 Fusion V6 auto. My biggest loose in the trade is probably going to be less MPG. Has anyone out there installed a K&N or other Short RAM, or other high flow filter and measured any change in MPG? Thanks, - Woody
