Hello folks, last year, in September 2012, I bought a new Ford Fusion SE (2012)
I am now at 32000 km on the odometer, but am having a problem with the Oil Life monitor.
It seems to be decreasing WAY too slowly, and simply cannot be accurate.
I brought my car into the dealership about 2 months ago, had "The Works" package done with complete oil change, at about 22,000 km on the odometer.
They assured me when I raised concerns on my last visit about the oil life monitor that it was safe to follow it and not need to worry about it. So I went on a cross Canada trip, from Ontario, through Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, all the while monitoring the oil life percentages.
Well I finally got fed up today, because I hit 9500km since my last oil change and the stupid monitor is still reporting 45% oil life left. Is this even remotely possible; that 9500km later the oil is at 45% still?
Everything I've ever read says its dangerous to go this long without an oil change so I took it into Ford again today, and told them about the oil life monitor problem, but they seem to be awfully dismissive of it so far.
What could possibly be wrong? What is going on? And is this very unsafe to leave my oil for this long even though the monitor is saying 44% life left?
I am not too auto-savvy so I'm hoping someone here can ease my mind, or at least explain what might be going on.
They keep saying at the dealership they often hear of people complaining the oil life monitor goes down too FAST but never that it goes too slowly.
Any thoughts, comments, or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all very much in advance
Cheers from Toronto!
