  1. I do just turn the key to ON and let the guages sweep before I turn the key to start the car. Just for giggles, one time I knew the car was not going to start, I turned the key like I was starting the car again while the starter was cranking just to see what it would do. It didn't make any difference but it was worth a shot. I guess that would also rule out the fuel pump even though mine has already been replaced along with all the other things. I have noticed that since they have replaced the ignition switch, it is happening much more frequently.
  2. Oh well, ignition switch did not fix it. I was hoping that it might. At this point I just want rid of the car but they still have the case open at the dealership so that isn't an option right now. It would be amazing if Ford would just buy the stupid thing back.
  3. Yeah, mine does that too. So bad at times that if the car is on flat ground it will rock back and forth. Another thing I have noticed is that when the car fails to start the tach does not pick up the starter motor cranking the engine over like it does when the car starts normally.
  4. Update: Took the car back to the dealership on Monday so the FSE could look at it again today. They never got it to not start but they said that it did "stumble" once so they decided that it is either the ignition switch or something in the wiring harness. They have ordered a new switch and are going to put it in tomorrow. We will see if this fixes it or not. Fingers crossed.
  5. They are supposed to be sending an engineer back down to look at it again. The dealership told me almost two weeks ago they would call when they heard back from them and they have not called. Unfortunately, I am now back at school so it will make things interesting to say the least.
  6. Update: They still have not fixed my car. Over the summer, the dealership has replaced the evap. purge valve, pcm, and the fuel pump and it has done nothing but make it worse. I finally got the car to not start at the dealership with their lead mechanic (he has been working on fords for 25 years) standing right next to me when it went through the crank cycle and he told me he had no clue what was going on. Ford has more or less been throwing parts at my car. They have literally had my car more over the past three months than I have. I am now just beyond the bumper to bumper warranty (car still only has 21,000 miles) so the dealership said that since Ford extended my warranty, I have to $100 every time I bring the car back in even though it is a problem they have been trying to fix for 2 years now.
  7. My car seems to be getting worse. It now doesn't start every 3-4 times you try and sometimes will not start 3 or 4 times in a row. The purge valve did nothing for my car. The local dealership is supposed to be bringing in an engineer to look at it. I wish they would have done this earlier. If the engineer can't figure anything out, I am seriously thinking about filing lemon law. I am afraid that one time when I am out it will not start period and then I'm stuck wherever.
  8. Well... I took the car back to the dealership two weeks ago because the car was consistently not starting more often (like every 3-4 times you would go to start it) and they told me there is a lot more information on Ford's website about the problem then when I last had it there. They ended up replacing the evap. purge valve as instructed by the engineer they have been working with. After they replaced it, the car did not have any issues for those two weeks (granted I am back at school and don't get to drive it much) until this last weekend. So, it is back to the dealership in five weeks when classes are over for the summer. I really thought they had found the problem this time.
  9. I wonder if everyone that has had this problem contacted Ford what the response would be. I contacted Ford and they extended my warranty another 2 years and are going to provide a rental car for me to use when I take my car to leave it until the dealership can figure out the problem. They told me that they have not had many complaints about it so I wonder if several people started complaining what would happen. Also what lights are staying on when your car is cranking but does not start. My check engine always stays on even after all the other lights go off.
  10. They replaced the throttle body on mine to. It fixed it for a couple months then it started doing it again. That may have fixed your problem but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
  11. If you find out anything, post it up because I have still not got the cure for mine. Maybe yours is having the same issue as mine.
  12. My 2010 Sport has this same problem, only thing is it is completely random when it does it. It has been going on for about two years now. I had about the same mileage on mine when it started. I have taken to multiple dealers trying to figure out what is causing it only to be told they are getting no codes and they can not get the car to duplicate the problem. There is a thread on this already started in the sport specific part of the forum. You might want to check it out.
  13. If it makes a difference, you can always hear the fuel pump prime when you first turn the key on. The problem is the dealer cannot get the car to do it... or at least that is what they are claiming, and so they say they cannot figure out what the problem is. I have had the car at three different dealerships and only one has told me what the problem likely is. I am really leaning toward it not getting spark because while it is cranking, it will sometimes fire but not enough to get the car started. I hope this isn't too confusing.
  14. The dealership back home actually told me that it was the pcm but because they could not get it to duplicate the problem Ford would not send them a new one. I thought it could have been the fuel pump too but it is not dependent on how long the car sits between starts when it does not start so that pretty much rules out the fuel draining back and causing not to start.
  15. Ok. Took it back to the dealer on Tuesday to get the data recorder taken off. Called today and they told me that there was nothing on the recorder that since the engine was not running it was not picking up anything from the pcm. New development though. It now is not starting about 75% of the time and also not always starting the second time either. On time the car started and died right after starting. I am thinking that it is not the valves that are the problem. Any more ideas?
  16. That makes since if it is the position of the valves and I hope that that is what the problem is. Do you think the data recorder would pick up on that?
  17. I understand that with older cars it is not unusual. I also have a 1969 JEEP CJ5 that has a carb. It is just frustrating that a brand new car does this. Sometimes it is worse than others and sometimes it will go a month without doing it. I am afraid that there is a problem and want to get it fixed while I have a warranty so I do not end up footing a huge bill later.
  18. They said that they have done every tsb they can find for the issue. I have had it at three dealerships trying to figure out the problem often leaving them the car so that they can try and duplilcate the problem. The second dealership that I have taken it to multiple times said that they thought it could be the pcm but since they could not duplicate the problem there was nothing they could do. They basically told me to keep driving it until it got worse. Well, it still has not gotten worse which is why I now have the in-car "flight recorder."
  19. I have tried doing that also but it makes no difference.
  20. It never does it after filling the car up with gas. The battery was just replaced a month ago after the original died at the dealership when they were putting the "fight recorder" on. They have checked the ground strap several times before. This has been going on for about a year and a half starting about six months after i bought the car.
  21. They have checked that. They have done all tsb's that are out on the car and also replaced the throttle body thinking that may fix the problem. It has the "flight recorder" on it now but of course while it is being watched it has only not started once. I am supposed to be taking it back to the dealership next week so they can hopefully get some information from the one time that it has not started.
  22. The problem is not that it will not not crank. The engine will crank, just not start. It turns over for about 10 seconds and then the starter cuts off. After the starter cuts off, you can then (without turning the key back to off) try and start the car again and it will always start the second time you try and start the car. And to make things more complicated, sometimes while it is cranking, the motor acts as if it is trying to start but never actually fires.
  23. Has anyone ever figured out what the problem was. I have had issues with this for the past year and a half and still have not got it fixed. Of course it is not giving any codes and the dealerships keep telling me to drive it until it gets worse. It hasn't. It's a 2010 sport.
