  1. My brother-in-law was by with his 2006 Milan with the same engine as my Fusion. He has 86000 miles on his car. It is making the same chirping that mine makes. He changed his belt and it didn't help. I am now guessing power steering pump or water pump. Both engines only make the chirp when the engine is cold.
  2. Thanks for the video. It will be this weekend before I will be able to check the belts per the instructions. I'll keep you posted on results.
  3. Just out of curiosity, how many miles did the car have on it when this started?
  4. My 2007 acts the same way and has since I bought it in 2009, used, with 13,000 miles on it. It worried me at first but it never has gotten better or worse. I did have the transmission fluid changed recently. I have 65,000 miles on it now.
  5. This morning I noticed that the noise was very evident at idle and as I accelerated the noise went away. This is a change from what has been happening. Once the engine was warm the noise disappeared completely.
  6. It doesn't seem to increase in either pitch or frequency when RPM is increased. I am beginning to suspect either bearing going bad or water pump. I can put a screwdriver on the power steering pump and it isn't that.
  7. Thanks for the video! After further troubleshooting, I am not sure it is the power steering pump. What is known is that it only occurs when the engine is cold, it does not change with engine RPM, and seems to be getting worse. I don't see any obvious misalignment and turning the wheel has no affect on it. It definitely is chirping and not squeal. I would suspect a bad bearing but I would expect that noise to be present even after the engine is warm. BTW the car has 66,000 miles on it; most of which are highway.
  8. Power steering pump makes a chirping noise when engine is cold. After engine warms up the noise goes away. Nothing abnormal noted in steering. Has anybody else noticed this? How hard is it to replace the pump? 2007 Ford Fusion SEL 2.3L.
  9. I have a 2007 Ford Fusion SEL 2.3L I4 with 65,000 miles on it. The engine makes a squeaking/chirping sound when the engine is cold. After the engine reaches normal operating temperature as indicated on the temperature gage, the noise stops. I have kept the oil changed every 5000 miles, had the fuel system serviced, and the transmission serviced. I still get the same noise. I don't see anything abnormal on the belts or pulleys but it almost sounds like a bearing is running dry. Has anybody had a similar problem and if so what fixed it? Thanks!
