  1. Im looking at a 2015 SE, i see they have multiple engine choices. the 2.5, 1.5/1.6 turboes and the 2.0t I noticed the 1.6 comes with a 6 speed manual, which i would love to have but Im wary of any tiny turbo engine. which engine is the best bet for reliability? I have also read a few reviews that say that its very hard to achieve the MPG that ford advertises, whats realistic to expect with the 2.5?
  2. All i know is that since ive owned the car (i bought at 97k) ive replaced : an axle, the clutch, all the motor mounts, the intake manifold, engine rebuild. Still needs the other axle, the AC doesnt work right in the summer, and a wheel bearing. I dont know if the last owner Just tortured the car, or if its a lemon, or if its just garbage.
  3. Hi, Im looking at cars to replace my 06 fusion, the motor went bad, Ive been rebuilding it, but i ended spending a good chunk of money fixing other issues. At 120k there is way too much wrong with it for me to trust it. im looking at the 2014/15 fusion as a possible replacement. Im very hesitant after owning my 06, but ive seen Brand new SE,s for as low at 15k is this a good deal? are the new cars any more reliable than the old 2.3?
  4. I would say take it to a reputable dealership, ask them if to check it when its cold.
  5. How cold was it? What weight oil are you running? if youre running heavier weight oil or you have additives it can take a while to warm up and cover everything. Otherwise, wait for the car to get cold again, and try to determine if the noise is coming from the bottom (oilpan), middle (block) or the top end. a mechanics stethescope helps. Im currently rebuilding my engine, for piston slap, it was noticeable at idle well after the car warmed up. I also put a good 5-10k on the car with the piston slap, so if it is you have some time. Just FYI If you end up trying a rebuild ( dont recommend unless your a seasoned tech) dont use the Rings from rock auto they are garbage. I have to buy new rings before i can finish my rebuild.
  6. Im doing a rebuild on my engine with a rock auto kit. The rings i got with the kit are garbage, and i need to find replacements. I have been looking all over and cant find a decent brand (hastings, weisico, Sealed power, etc). The new pistons for the engine are .20 over. Does anyone know where i can order a set of .20 over rings that are a decent brand?
  7. Alright so, my engine is currently at the machine shop being bored, and scoped, its getting new pistons, rings and bearings. Ive rebuilt several GM engines in the past and i noticed that they tend to have particular requirements for the post rebuild break in. like for my last rebuild you cant use synthetic oil during breakin. I have a few questions about the break in for the 2.3. How long should the break in last? how many miles. Throttle/ rev limits during break in, Oil i should use during break in. any other things i should keep in mind? I am also changing the clutch, all the gaskets, and new motor mounts. P.S i lost some trans oil (manual) what brand is recommended to replace it?
  8. Can anyone confirm or comment on the quality of theses parts? Im about to place my order.
  9. do i have to purchase them for both sides, or could i get away with one side to correct the issue? my car also still seems to pull to the right, im betting this is because i waited too long before the alignment and i have visibly uneven tire wear. Does this make sense to any of you? As close as the alignment was it should drive straight
  10. it is at .9* and the prefered range is 0.5-0.8 according to the printout i received.
  11. Hi. So i got my car aligned the other day, and the technician tells me my right front wheel is at its maximum adjustment and is .1* out of the acceptable alignment range. I realize this isnt much, but im worried if it gets worse it could ruin my tires. What is the best way to correct this? I know they make camber adjustable ball joints that add an extra1.5* of motion. I also understand that alignment goes out do to fatigue in different parts and wear and tear. Would it be better to replace the control arms and ball joints, (they sell the set on ebay for both sides $250), or to install the adjustable ball joints (180), or perhaps there are other components that would have greater impact. Thanks
  12. Can anyone whos had their cylinder head off confirm if these look like the oem pistons? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1816740
  13. I would swap for the component set, then you know the tweeters and the speaker are balanced to work with each other. In my 06 i just put alpine type S components in the front and the difference is phenomenal. On my car the tweeter (in the stock system) connected straight to the woofer, which had a crosover on it. I think if you go with the coax and the tweeter, you could overemphasize the highs, as well as lower the sound stage, since you now have highs coming from a place they didnt previously. Even components vs the Coax speakers your going to get betters highs from a speaker with a better crosover. The components (usually) have a large external crosover network vs a tiny internal one with the coax speakers. P.S according to crutchfields research photos it looks like the tweeters also pull off the main driver.
  14. Im still not quite sure, i was going to go with an engine swap. I was thinking about some of the rebuilds ive seen in the past and they do not seem to hold up well. (i haven't seen someone get more than about 50k) This could because of cheap parts... I Just found out that my financial aid for school fell through so, im trying to determine whats going to yield the best value for my dollar. I have my other car to drive for a while, so if i need to rebuild it i have the time. Im trying to figure out if the rebuild kit from rock auto has quality parts in it. its made by or sold by (not sure) DNJ components
  15. I about to pull the engine out of my car, and i wanted to get an idea of how long it takes to pull one of the 2.3s out of a fusion. I remember with my Monte carlo it could be done in about a day (driveway) if you moved quickly and had someone to help. Im trying to figure out if i could pull this in my driveway then tarp the car, or if i need to try to find a garage somewhere.
