  1. I don't know how things are set up on the 2014 models, but on the '10-'12 models, there is a control next to the center vent that will let you modulate the airflow from full blast to none at all. If yours is the same, you could play around with that adjustment until you get the airflow volume you want out of the center vents.
  2. See if you can leave it at the dealer overnight and have them drive it in the morning when it is cold. If they drive it a few minutes there's a chance that it will experience those same symptoms. If the service tech is driving and it happens to him, he should be able to zero in on your problem. Good luck.
  3. Crystal, Thanks for your interest. I won't know anything until the next time the oil life monitor drops below 10%, which will be after the car is long out of warranty. I'll let you know what happens the next time I have the oil changed.
  4. Update: Since my warranty expires in a few days, I took it in today and tried to explain again what my concerns are. The service manager said that all he could do for me today would be to document that I had not seen the change oil soon message the last time the car was serviced, even though the oil life was down to 7% at that time. He says if it happens again that I will have to talk to Ford to try to convince them to correct it under warranty. He said there's nothing he can do to scan for any troubles in the computer. At least I got it documented and have something down on paper showing that the problem was there while the car was still under warranty. I'll just have to wait and see if the message doesn't show the next time the oil life goes below 10%. If that happens, I'll have to press my case with Ford.
  5. I suppose it could have been mislabeled at the factory. I had a buddy who bought a Dodge, and it came from the factory with a Plymouth steering wheel.
  6. I didn't know that they made them to fit into the OBD-II port. I tried one of those things once that used a 9 volt battery and plugged into the cigarette lighter receptacle. Even though my car's lighter receptacle was hot with the ignition switched off (not all cars are wired that way), it didn't work. I lost all my settings in both the radio and trip odometers. It's really no big deal, but if you want to use those figures to calculate mileage for business expenses, it's a bit of a pain to write down the readings before you disconnect the battery.
  7. Thanks Do you know if I will lose the trip odometer settings?
  8. I have a question regarding disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. It seems from reading this forum that disconnecting the battery does help to fix a few different electrical glitches. On my last car, when I disconnected the battery, I would lose my radio station presets and also the trip odometers would zero out. Does anyone know if that also happens on the Fusion? I have a 2012 SEL. If I ever have to disconnect the battery, I would like to know if I will lose any other information. The radio presets are no big deal, because I have them written down anyway, but I would like to know if I'm going to lose any other information when I have to disconnect the battery. Thanks.
  9. Those two sizes you gave are way too far apart for me to even consider using them on the same car. The first one, 235/75-R15, has an approximate diameter of 28.88 inches. The diameter of the second, 225/50-R17, is about 25.86 inches. That three inch difference in diameter is going to throw your speedometer and odometer way out of whack. Like more than a 10% error. What year/model Fusion do you have?
  10. Go out to your car and get inside and leave everything off. You may have to wait until your retained accessories power has faded out (not sure how it works on the 2013 models) After the lights fade out, plug in your radar detector or cell phone charger and see if it works. If you can charge your phone, your lighter outlet is "hot." If the charger doesn't work, then you will know that your lighter /power outlet is switched with the ignition.
  11. I have the OEM molded splash guards on my 2012. They don't protrude very much below the rocker panels, so at first glance it gives the appearance that they won't do much good. I've only had them on for a few weeks, but it seems to me that they do a surprisingly good job of keeping a lot of the water and debris from ending up on the lower body panels. The real test will be to see how they work with the snow, slush and salt that's all over the roads in the winter.

    Hello

Welome! I also have a 2012 and love it. You can get a lot of useful information here on this forum. Welcome aboard.
  13. The battery has never been disconnnected since I got the car. There's only about 18,000 miles on it now, and it appears that this is the original battery. Since I got it, there has been no servicing done to it (other than the oil change I just had done) and no reason for the battery to be disconnected. I'll just have them look at it and make a note about the problem to get it documentd before the warranty expires.
  14. Thanks. Actually, the problem is not that the oil life percentage is displaying incorrectly; the problem is that the oil change reminder message is not displaying at all. I'll talk to the service guy and explain (again!) what is happening. I told him when I brought it in for the oil change that my oil monitor was at 7% with no message in the message center. He is the guy who told me that it was probably set to come on at some lower percentage, which I have now learned is not possible. If I can convince him that the only value at which the message is initially supposed to be displayed is 10%, I hope he will be able to do some kind of diagnostic to see why the message was never displayed. I'll post periodic updates after I have taken the car in.
  15. That's what I thought. I saw nothing in the manual about setting the reminder message to come on at different percentages of oil life remaining. I'm just going to have to convince the dealer that my message never came on when the life got down to 10 (and 9, and 8 and 7) per cent oil life remaining, because it won't get back down below 10 before my warranty expires..
  16. I know how to reset it from whatever it's showing back to 100%, but how do you get it to show something other than 100?
  17. Thanks. That convinces me that there is something wrong. In the time that my oil life went from 10% down to 7%, I started the car many times, and that message never appeared. I guess I'll have to take it to the dealer before the warranty expires and get it documented that there is a problem so they can verify it the next time the life drops below 10% with no messsage appearing in the messsage center.
  18. Sorry. I should have said "message" instead of "light." This message is supposed to appear in the message center under the speedometer, not on the radio display, right? I have never seen the oil change soon message come up in the message center. I guess I'll have to take it back and have them have a look at it. The bad news is that I'm almost out of the 3/36 warranty, and with my driving patterns, the warranty will have expired before I get the oil life back down to under 10%. So, by the time it gets to less than 10% and the message should appear, the warranty will no longer be in effect. akirby said, "It's just a message that appears in the message center when you start the vehicle." After you start the vehicle, how long does the message remain visible? Does it just show for a few seconds, or does it stay there until you do something to make it disappear? If it's only there for a matter of seconds, I suppose it's possible that I could have missed it when starting up. However, I don't think I would have missed it every time that I started the car between the 10% and 7% values.
  19. I just had the first oil change in my 2012 SEL since I bought the car. The oil life monitor said the oil was down to 7% of its useful life. According to my owner's manual, the "Engine Oil Change Soon" light was supposed to have illuminated at 10% of life remaining, and the "Oil Change Required" light is supposed to come on at 0%. When my monitor hit 10% and the light didn't illuminate, I just thought that it might take awhile for the light to come on, so I kept driving and checking the light. It went through 9%, 8% and then down to7% with no light at all. I didn't want to let it go any lower, so I had the oil changed. I asked the service advisor about this and he said that you could go into the menu and program the system to have that light illuminate at whatever percentage you wanted. When I got home, I took out the manual and went through it a couple of times and could find nothing regarding customization of this feature. Does anyone know if this is something that I can change? I really don't want to change it from what is supposed to be the "normal" 10% figure. I would just like the light to come on at some point (preferably 10%) to remind me when it's time to change the oil. I used the search function to try to see if this has been discussed in these forums before, but couldn't find any results. Nor could I find anything in the owner's manual. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help shed a little light on this problem for me. Thanks.
  20. What sometimes helps shorter people is to slightly recline the passenger's seat back just a little. This can tend to slightly increase the distance between the shoulders/back of the head and the seat/head restraint assembly. It doesn't work for everyone, but it might be worth a try. Good luck.
  21. Thanks. That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the confirmation.
  22. Does anyone know if the 2012 models have the global closing feature? I have a 2012 SEL, and the global open feature seeems to work just fine. However, I cannot get the windows to close using the lock button on my key. The manual mentions global opening in the section on windows, but there is no mention of global closing. Another section has a paragraph on opening the windows with the remote, but nothing is said about closing them. Is the global closing feature only on 2013 and later models?
  23. I have a 2012 SEL. Last week I dropped a pen in front of the driver's seat, and when I looked under the seat to find it, I noticed that there was one part of the seat structure that was completely covered with surface rust. If you look at your post number 1 in this thread, take a look at thumbnail picture number 6. That is exactly what mine looks like. That metal tube about 1/2 inch in diameter that runs left to right is completely rusted over. The supports on the left and right sides are OK, but it is just that one tube that is rusty. The same situation exists under the passenger's seat as well. I don't think it's a safety concern, because, at least at this point, it hasn't affected the structure. Of course, that could change over time. All the other structural pieces under both seats seem to be pretty rust free so far. I just noticed the problem last week, so I haven't had time to do anything about it. I'll have the dealer take a look at it the next time I go in for an oil change, probably in the next six weeks or so. The interesting thing is that all the components underneath the car, which you would expect to have a coating of surface rust on them, seem to be nice and clean, and these are the ones that have been exposed to all the road salt and other chemicals. I don't have any idea why only this one metal tube under the seats should be so rusty.
  24. Welcome to the forum! I think you'll find out you can learn a lot here. Thanks for the history narrative. Sounds like you've been a Ford guy for quite awhile.
  25. I noticed the same thing yesterday. An Audi A6 (could have been an A8--I'm not sure) was following me. I noticed he had some eyebrow LED's on both sides that were acting as DLR's. When he put his turn signal on, the LED's on that side turned off, and just his blinking signal light was on. After he made his turn and the blinker turned off, the LED's on that side came back on.
