  1. Glad to hear that you got things resolved. I wish all problems could be solved by replacing a fuse!
  2. Thanks for keeping us posted. I wil be interested to see what the problem actually was. I suspect it's electrical, like a bad ground, relay or switch. Good luck.
  3. Update..I checked with my friend, and it seems that his rear windows are as slow to raise up as mine are. We concluded that either it's the way they are meant to work, or else there's a problem that exists in both our cars. On another note, I noticed that his outboard rear headrests both have a push button on the headrest itself that allows you to tilt the whole assembly forward, which results in the top of the headrest being about 3 inches or so lower for better rear visibility. Mine do not have those release buttons. These cars are both '12 SEL models, 4-cylinder, equipped almost identically except that his has nav and mine does not. Was there some other kind of option package available in 2012 that included these push button releases? I have removed the outboard headrests to improve rear visibility, since we rarely have anyone in the back seat. It would be a lot easier to just tilt the headrests back up instead of replacing them when we have rear passengers.
  4. Thanks for all the information. I don't think the TSB applies to my car, however, because it was built after 7/31/11. I have a friend who also has a '12 SEL. If I get a chance, I'll ask him if he has noticed the same thing. Otherwise, I will have to mention it to the dealer the next time I go in for sevice. There's still almost a year left on the 3/36 warranty, so I'll have them take a look at it.
  5. Yesterday was the first day since I got my 2012 SEL last fall that I was able to drive with the windows down. When it came time to put them back up, I noticed that the both rear windows took about three times as long to go all the way up as the front ones did. All four windows seem to lower at the same speed. Both front windows seem to go up at the same speed at which they lower. The rear ones, however, are much slower. Both rear windows seem to go up at the same slow speed. I suppose it could have been designed that way, to make it easier for children to remove hands and heads from the opening as the window rises, but I'm not sure. Has anybody else with a '12 model noticed the same thing? I'd like to know if it's something I need to address, or if it's supposed to be that way. Thanks
  6. Great idea. Thanks. I guess if I'm afraid of them being overtorqued, I would have to loosen them up and then torque them to specs, right?
  7. What about if you are just rotating the tires? If I do a standard rotation, keeping the same four tires, but just putting them in different positions, do I need to reprogram anything, or can I just rotate them and drive away? I'd like to do this at home because I don't trust the dealers to torque the lug nuts properly by hand.
  8. What worked for me was an old remnant I had lying around from a non-skid mat we bought to put under an area rug to keep it from sliding on the floor. This looks like a rubber mesh material, and it does a good job of keeping things quiet and in place. It's easy to trim it to exactly the size you need.
  9. I also have a 2012 model, and the keys I got with it look like the one in your second picture. They also have "HA" engraved on them. Ford calls these "Integrated Keyhead Transmitters." The process for programming new keys starts on page 114 of your owner's manual. It is NOT the procedure that is shown in your video clip. It is a different sequece. Unfortunately, if you only have one key, you will need to go to a dealer to get another one programmed. According to the manual, if you have at least two working keys, then you can program another one yourself. If you only have one, you cannot do it yourself at home. Some locksmiths (and my local Ace Hardware store) claim that they can program a key even if you only have one working key. I didn't check out their claims, because I already had two working keys. What I did was to make another one (just a key, not a remote transmitter) so I would still have two working keys if I lost one. That way, if I did lose a key, I would still have two working keys available and I could program another one myself without having the expense of taking it to the dealer. Bottom line: If you only have one working key, you will probably have to go to a dealer to get another one made, unless you can find a local locksmith/hardware store who is able to do it for you. Good luck.

  12. There are some locksmiths and hardware stores who claim they can program an extra key for you. I also just bought a 2012 SEL. Fortunately, mine came with two remote keys, so I was able to buy another key (just a key, no remote) and program it myself. My local Ace hardware insisted that they could program one for me even if I only had one of the originals. Fortunately, my local dealer (not the one from whom I bought the car) only charged me $22 for the key. They cut it there and I was able to program it myself. If you read the manual, you will find that it says you can program extra keys yourself if you have at least two working keys. If, as in your case, you only have one key, you will probably have to bite the bullet and have an extra made at the dealer. You may be able to find an independent locksmith who can do the programming for you, but there's no guarantee that you can find one. They seem to be few and far between. Once you get your second key made, whether at the dealer or elsewhere, I would recommend getting a third one. That way, if you lose one, you will still have two and not have to go through the dealer, because you will still have two working keys. That's the only reason I had another one made--just in case of loss. Good luck
  13. By "stopped making them with the 2012 model" do you mean that the 2012 models don't have the old style handle, or that the handle was redesigned for the 2013 model year?
