  1. Thanks akirby. Wish I had known about this forum before-hand. I checked out bbf2530's suggestion to look for coupons at http://www.genuineservice.com, We coulda done the oil change for $29.95 using the recommended oil. Nothing like giving $60 bucks away.

Its also depends in what weather condition you're running your car. I saw a documentary about Conventional VS Synthetic oil during Xtrem hot& Extreme Cold Condition (for a car xtreme cold its just under -20 BTW) and for the same GRADE of oil (5w20) the synthetic was staying very liquid even under -45 degrees and the conventional was getting thicker( even if its the same grade, which the grade is suppose to determine the thickness).

For me, living in cold weather (-30 avg in winter time) i rather pur xtra $$$ in oil and be worry free...

I have Mobil1 5w20 in engine and also Synthetic oil in tranny.

P.S : the documentary i saw wasnt an bullshit thing. it was part of my mechanical engineering course.

  2. I am new to this and hope my question is in the proper topic...

I just factory ordered a 09 Ford Fusion SEL 2.3L with 18" tires(blue suede pkg). I will take delivery in December. Will I need winter tires? I am an experienced driver and have had no problem with all season tires in winter. I do not know what to expect with the 18" tires included with this package. Does anybody have this package and live in a cold climate?

The Ford dealer also told me that the Fusion can pull 1000lbs(class one hitch) . Is this true? I would like to pulll a small 14' alluminum fishing boat( 500 lbs max). Thanks

Think about it that way... If you buy winter tires..... you'll have a WAY better grip, even if its cheap winter tires....Sometimes experience means nothings when an accident is about to happen. You all-season tire will also last probably 2 times longer beacause you dont put any mileage on them during winter.... so it will be quite the same.... you'll pay for winter tire, but on long term... you'll recover the money and you will drive more safely for you and the other drivers around you.

For me, i'm on Blizzak during winter..... THERES NO ALL SEASONS tire who will give me the grip that i want for my AWD fusion.

  3. I just bought an 09 SE V6 and test drove both motors. I thought that the 6 had a better response. I was looking for a SAP i4 with Sync. The 4 was not powerful enough and the response was slow to say the least. Glad I got the SE V6.

I also have a V6... I love it... the only concern its that im AWD and i'm doing 90% city mileage.... So its a little expensive on gas....

  4. On my older car, 1991 camry, i bought GE nightHawk buls, i was surprise to see the improvement VS OEM bulbs.... and they are cheap.... like 27$ for the pair.... they suppose to provide 30% more light... and I can agree with that..... it's way less expensive then HIDS and PIAAs Xtreme whites..... Sure NO IT IS REALLY NOT the same as HID's but for 27$, its a good upgrade.... i'll get some for sure on my Fusion.

    They are rated 55watts also

  5. Hello All,

I bought a 2008 Fusion with the standard sound system. I have Sync, but only the standard speaker set, and I'm pretty underwhelmed by the sound quality. Double bass lines, in particular, are good at exposing the weaknesses. It can't reliably reproduce deep sounds, although the rest of the spectrum isn't stellar, either.

Can anyone recommend some good replacement speakers, around or under $250 for the complete set? I don't blast my music, so I don't think I need anything crazy - just decent quality at moderate volumes.

As a follow up question, how much of an improvement will amps and subwoofers make? My impression is that stuff is really geared towards people who either REALLY love bass, or who want to share their music with the rest of the world.

    Thanks,

    Greg

For the brand of speakers you want....it really depends what kind of music you're listening to.....Give me more details and i'll be able to answer you... And yes you'll have sound improvement but it will be WAY more if you'Re willing to pay Xtra money and change Head unit.

  6.

I can't believe that some poeple still use 4 seasons tires during winter... I'm strongly agreeing with the new law in Quebec Province that obliges you to have winter tires From Dec 1st to March 31th.

I've seen so much idiot risking there lives and the lives of others ... keeping there 4 seasons tires for winter.

Even CHEAP value winter tires are better then all-seasons.

For me its an AWD fusion with Bridgestone Blizzaks WS-60 on it.....

The funniest hing also , its if you have 2 sets of tires.... That means they will wear Half of the time quicker so its quite the same and you dont risk lives of others....

Sorry if im pissed but one of my firend is dead because of a NEWB who drove his civic with 60% used all seasons tires...

  7. I had xenon conversion for my low beams. When first turning them on i would get a flickering "check left headlamp" message. since the wattage is very low at fist untill they get brighter (about 10seconds). plus i couldn't use the rubber covers at the back of the bulb becuase the wires had to stick out. So i decided to move them down to the fog lamps. (room for wires and no flickering message) they look great down there. NOW i am considering LED bulbs for the low beams. I know that they too use low wattage but they draw consistant power vs. xenon. the ones i am considering use about 15 leds. the power is probably no more than 10watts.

they have a lot of these on ebay....

My main question is exactly what trips this senor to show "check headlamp". Is it that it detects if it is drawing a low amount of power. or is it that it detects if there is no power draw.

if i put in the LED bulbs (h11 lowbeam) will i get this message again?

Your Xenon kit is pulling out 35 watts.... the oem kit is 55w. So, you need to buy resistor pack for the equivalent (35w for your Xenon + 20w for resistor) then you'llhave no problem.

  8. Hi everybody, I just wonder what are your insurance rates for you car: I wnat to compare with mine.

    1. Exact model & year of the car

    2. Male or Female

    3. Age

    4. Where do you live

    5. If you had any infraction to your Driver Liscense(in the past 36 months)

    6. Price of your insurance(specified Can$ or US$)

    Example for me

    1. 2008 Ford Fusion SEL v6 AWD

    2. Male

    3. 25 yrs old

    4. Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada

    5. Got a 9 points ticket 2 years ago, on my Mitsubishi Lancer on the highway.

    6. 1480 Can$/yr (with my wife on insurance)

  9. Today i got the chance to see the difference between a HiD Fusion and a Piaa Fusion.

Personnally there's not a big difference between the 2. Yes, HIDs provide more light....

but the guy with the PIAAs put 2 H7 and normal bulblights and 2 h11 for the fog lamps.

With the 4 PIAAs, it was a huge imrpovement vs OEM light and PIAAs are pulling 55 watts,

so you don't need to bother to buy resistor pack for it. By the way, i went to see for prices,

and i'm able to get the 4 PIAAs for around 170$, wich is much cheaper and you don't need to do nothing to the car.

So, i'll go for the PIAAs.

Too bad tho i don't have pictures to prove it. Once i'll have mine, i'll take some pics for you guys.

  10. Hi p4user. :D The answer depends on several variables: Does he care about looks? How important is the price? What is he using them for (i.e. snow tires, summer tires, all season tires etc etc.). Yes, I know this thread started as a snow tire thread, but I do not want to make any assumptions.

If this is for snow tires I would go with the Stock size first, then the 215/55-17's. A narrower (215 versus 225) snow tire can give you better traction in the snow. But where do you live and how much of the winter is there actually snow on the ground where you are? The quality of the snow tire will matter more than the small width difference, so what brand/model of tire is on the wheels is more important than the size. So unless there is snow all winter, I would stick with the stock size.

Just wanted to mention something else. When you state "too fast" and "too slow", what are you referencing?

The 225/55/16's will make your actual speed slower than the speedometer reading (due to the smaller diameter)?

The 215/55/17's will make your actual speed faster than your speedometer reading (due to the larger diameter). Maybe that is what you meant (i.e Speedometer will display 0.42% too fast and 1.75% too slow), but it was hard to tell by the statement. Just thought I would clarify that.

If it were me, I would go with the stock size. If money is an object for your brother, I would go with the 215/55R17's.

For the $12 savings, I can not see the 16's being worth it, unless they are a much better quality snow tire/wheel than the others.

Also, if this is for snow tires, he is replacing all four, correct? You should never install only two snow tires on a car. They need to be replaced on all four corners.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

That's why i bought Blizzaks Ws-60 on 16'' instead of having cheaper tires on 17 for the same price :)

  11. Stock on my brothers car 225/50R17. He is going to be getting a second set of rims. I need to know what size is best between these three sizes.

    225/55R16 - 0.42% too fast (same width) (0.11" smaller diameter) ($848)

    225/50R17 - Stock Size ($964)

    215/55R17 - 1.75% too slow (0.39" Narrower) (0.46" larger diameter) ($860)

    on mine, I bought 225 60 r16

  12. White Suede Metallic and Charcoal interior... Moons and Tunes package. Time to play now... will be looking for a CAI, tints and HIDs. Loving the car so far, I am a bit of a motorhead, drive a Mazda Millenia S... that is done up, custom headlights, HIDs, custom headers, Magnaflow muffler, tints, Acura TSX wheels. So I will be modding the Fusion too...

Pics to come. Really like the SYNC system...

Welcome online! Hope that you'll like this site. If you looking for something, there's always someone who's able to answer. Hope for you you're not AWD, Cus you wont be able to gey the Cat-Back from Magnaflow, like me :(

  13. Thanks QuoVadis69! However, in the event that I want to maybe avoid drilling into that hole do you think it would be possible to run the amp wire with the existing wires through the firewall?

Maybe i wasn't clear enough, The white plastic cap taht im talking about is designed for this.... When i put my remote start, i pass the wire threw that cap and same thing for my 12 volts wire to the trunk.... it's fairly easy to drill and your wires will arrive just by the battery.

    Good Luck!!!

  14. Hello everyone!!! I am looking into possibly adding an amplifier to my car for rear deck speakers and an subs. I know to run the amp wire through the door sill on the driver side of the car, but how do I get the wire through the firewall? I have seen on other posts about drilling a hole through a grommet (I have a v6 Fusion). Should I do that or is it possible to just follow some current wires and route the amp wire with them. I am looking at using a 4 gauge wire. Also, would it be easiest to remove the battery to maybe make it easier to find where the wires go through the firewall? Thank you :D

Under the steering wheel, by your foot, you'll find on the fire wall a hole with a whtie plasric cap in it.....

Just drill into this cap, don't need to remove battery for that.

  15. Good day,

I was looking to change my exhaust for a cat-back system, but i realized that the Magnaflow Cat back system sold by Steeda is not compatible with AWD v6 fusion..... So i wonder if any of you, just changed your mufflers. I was looking at high Flow racing mufflers but i wanna know if the v6 sounds good with them install or it's WAY TOO Loud for nothing. If someone have some of those mufflers installed, can you telll me what brand of muffler this is, and how's the sound ....

If possible post a vid of it...

    Thanks in advance...

  16. Actually the 225/60R16 tire sidewall is almost an inch taller (0.89") than the 225/50R17 sidewall and since there are two of them (top and bottom) you get 1.78 inches extra height, minus the 1 inch smaller wheel.

    overall height:

    225/50R17 25.86"

    225/60R16 26.63"

    205/60R16 25.69"

As you can see the OEM 205/60R16 is almost exactly the same height as the 225/50R17. Your tires are a bit taller but the speedo error should be less than 2 mph at 70 mph.

Here's a good website for tire size calculator, actually my winter tire will be a bit smaller than my summer one s.

    http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

  17. Might be a little tall but it's probably acceptable. I prefer sticking with the OEM sizes just be safe and that's 205/60R16.

It depends, my oem size for my SEL AWD is 225 50 r 17 , so 225 60 r16 its quite the same size but 1 inch smaller for the diameter of the wheel. So it's cheaper.

    I got 4 blizzak ws-60 for 708$ at tire country..... on the size of 225 60 r 16

  18. Hi QuoVadis. :D No problem at all. I thought I detected a bit of an outrageous French accent! :hysterical:

Yes, you can install the new wheels without the TPMS sensors and it will not affect anything else (AWD, ABS etc. etc.). You will just have the TPMS warning light on all of the time.

And on a side note, I agree with you. I have been checking my own tire pressure for many years without an electrical nanny to remind me. Those of us who perform proper maintenance on our own wind up having to pay for these systems to protect those who are not intelligent enough to maintain their cars properly.

Anyway, enough of my editorial comments.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

BTW do you know if there's a Fuse that we can remove for the light , or the fuse is for the whole cluster itself?

  19. I dont really care about the TPMS .... as long as other systems still works.

We had cars for years without this system.... i rahter look the tire pressure by myself and save money.

Anyway my AWD and all other safety driving system will not be affected by the TPMS disabled.

Thanks for the very good explanation...

BTW im french, so its kinda hard for me to do good sentences.

  20. Hi QuoVadis. :D There is a beep when the warning first initiates, then it is just the warning light.

Also, as an FYI, the "valves" are the same. The Factory TPMS system works with a sensor that is held to the inside of the wheels with a band. So there will be no difference in valves on your new wheels versus old wheels.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

So i dont need to buy those expensive sensors?
