  1. Everything I have read has indicated the FNR5 fluid is very specific. I changed the fluid myself according to a Ford repair document; the line you disconnect from the transmission and put into a drain pan is extremely easy to get to. I would definitely not leave the other fluid in there. It "may" be okay, but the additives packages are different so why risk $155.00 now when a transmission could cost over 10X that.
  2. It's going to be one of the lower control arms/ball joints. Our 2009 had this issue shortly after we purchased it; it's horribly annoying. I can't speak for others, but the 2006-2009 uses four lower ball joints for some reason.
  3. Hello! Still new to the forum, haven't had a need to ask a question yet until now. Wife and I got a 2009 SE about a year ago and overall have enjoyed the car. Have had a few simple warranty fixes and replaced a door handle myself (Wahoo!) and now have a unique issue. About twice a month, the trip odometer seems to loose its mind. We typically reset the trip odometer (both) after filling up fuel. Just a habit. However, sometimes one or both of the trip odometer will completely go wacky and read a bogus milage. For example, we will have driven 200 miles but one of the trips will say 500-800, or one of the trips will drop down to 20-80 or something similar. Next fill up, I reset both and they will behave normally for the tank of fuel. Edit: The primary odometer reads normal all the time, steadily adding miles and it has not had any problems. We still have some miles left on the extended warranty, but I thought I would ask here first and see if any of you other owners have even heard of this. I'm trying to stack a few issues together on one trip to the dealer to avoid multiple deductible payments on the warranty. Thanks all!
  4. Hello all! I am George from North East Illinois. My wife and I just purchased last month a 2009 Ford Fusion SE 2.3L with 51000 miles on it. Our Ford mechanic friend recommended it and so far my wife loves it. It replaced her very tired 1997 Chevy Lumina. So far we have changed the transmission fluid (Proper FNR5 Fluid) and it's doing fine. The dealer changed the oil and when due I plan on using Mobil 1 5w20. This oil has served us well on other vehicles and do not doubt it here. We also own my 2004 Honda Civic with 175000 well maintained miles on it. I am a mechanic but hopefully not much longer. Hence the fresher vehicle for my wife and the extended service plan. I hope to be as helpful as I can while seeking maintenance and service advice here. Thanks all! George
