Okay thank you for the responses. I never even thought about a heat shield but this makes a lot of sense. My transmission shifts very smoothly and have never had any issues so I will look into the whole heat shield issue.

Hello all, I purchased my 2012 Fusion Sport in October of 2015 with 40k miles. It is CPO and now has 50k miles. There's two grinding/rattling issues I'm having from the transmission that I'd like your expertise on: The first issue is on cold starts. When I start the car I let it run for about 30 sec and wait for it to idle down. When I shift to reverse I hear a fairly quiet grinding sound. It is not a constant grind but phases in and out kind of in bursts and waves if that makes sense. This issue only happens on cold starts and goes away as soon as I put it in drive. The second issue happens when the vehicle is fully warmed up, after about 30 min of driving. There is a definite rattling sound that happens under very light acceleration. For example if I take off from a stop sign slowly (I drove fairly slow). The grinding happens when the vehicle is in gear, not during shifts. It is a constant rattle that is most noticeable with light throttle input in 3rd and 4th gear. I can hear it only with windows down but it is fairly noticeable. I do not hear the rattle under heavier acceleration. It rarely can be hear under light acceleration at highway speeds in 6th as well. The vehicle has never had a transmission fluid flush. I'm more than willing to do this, but think the fluid may be low. Thank you for your help. This is the type of thing that may not bother everyone but it bother me.

Hello all, I recently purchased a 2012 CPO Fusion Sport with 44k miles. I love it! It's coming up to the time where I will do an oil change. I do oil changes myself and would like to know if after 44k miles of oil changes being done at a Ford dealership (assuming semi-synthetic) would it be a bad idea to change over to Mobil 1 full synthetic oil. I purchase it cheap at Walmart so it's only a few more dollars than Motorcraft semi-synthetic. After 44k miles, is it a bad idea to change over to full synthetic? Don't want any issues but I live in a cold climate, and think there is advantages of full syn oil for cold starts. I'd appreciate your thoughts! Mostly concerned about engine problems (very slippery syn oil leaking) Thanks!

Hey Meagan, thanks for responding. It had luckily gone away and not returned. I do have a nice Ford Dealership just down the road from me and if it continued to be a problem I definitely would take it in.

After driving for about 1k miles I noticed a slight chirping belt sound at any RPMs above idle. I looked down and saw part of the belt assembly (maybe tensioner) wobbling a bit. The chirping only lasted about 10 miles and has since gone away completely but I would like to ask if anyone else has had this problem and if it is worth it to bring it in. Thank you!
