  1. The Fusion gets valvoline dino oil and filters The Cobra gets Amsoil for both Fusion is a daily driver, Cobra gets hammered on the drag strip/road course/auto-cross On a daily driver car anything more than the basic motorcraft recommended oil is over-kill. I use the valvoline because I just let the local lube monkeys do that work, I'll spend my time working and maintaining the race car instead.
  2. hmm.... wonder if this is my issue too... have never heard the wear tab squeal before...
  3. I haven't had to change the pads on the Fusion yet, but on my 04 cobra have tried several setups: I've tried PowerStop (evolution performance) ceramic pads... VERY low dust, not too good in initial bite for street use, definitely not enough bite for the track. I've tried EBC red stuff pads... low dust, good street pad, decent initial bite on the track, get greasy with extended heat periods (road course), these cracked and chunked on me in under 3 months. I've tried Galphar pads ... EXTREMELY dusty, decent bite, decent hold up under repeated heavy brake application. I've tried Hawk HP+ pads ... VERY dusty, AWESOME bite, NO discernable fade on the auto-cross... hard on rotors (but sure makes them shine) Currently running Hawk HPS as street pads... just bedded them last night, so far they show next to NO dust (even during the bedding process), bite-wise I'd say they are along the lines of the EBC reds. I definitely would not run these on the track though. Hope that helps a bit anyway. Rod
  4. 2008 Fusion S / 4 cyl / manual trans / 28,000 miles Have been experiencing a "squeal" while just driving down the road from the drivers side front. It is definitely somewhere in the brakes or suspension or bearings up there, but not sure what I should be looking for. The noise is NOT always there, starts around 40mph (and as I said, is NOT there every trip). It seems to be triggered by road vibration. If slightly turn steering wheel while the noise is occuring, the squeal gets louder. If step on brakes, the squeal stops. Going to be bringing it into the dealer shortly (still under warranty) just wondering what might be up or if there are any TSBs on the topic (I haven't been able to find any). Thanks! Rod
  5. Quit driving it like the Saleen. My Fusion is relatively new (less than 1500 miles), but I so far have had 30mpg and 26mpg with the 2 fills I've done so far. The difference was ALL in how I drove the car. I babied it the first tank, shifting at the recommended points (well actually at 3000rpm). The 2nd tank I decided to see what would happen to the mileage if I just throttled the car. Revving to 5000 before power shifting... results was only a 4mpg loss. Damn good design from what I can tell. Car is a 2008 I4 stick BTW. (I also have a 500rwhp 2004 Comp Orange Cobra ... so I can tease you about the Saleen driving...)
  6. My car did something similar this morning too (first time). Mines a 2008 I4 manual trans, < 2000 miles. When sitting in Neutral the idle will hunt, just started doing it today. A couple of times it dipped low enough I thought the engine would choke, but it didn't. This was well after the engine was warmed up. If it persists, will be going into the dealer. Personal pet peeve of mine... new cars having to return to dealer.... oh well.
  7. You are not alone, mine hardly just cracked 1,000 miles and I started to hear a knock/heavy tick from the engine as well. Gonna give it some time to see if it "works out". If no better by 2000 miles (or starts to get worse) will be bringing it into the shop. Was not gradual at all. One day whisper quiet the next day it was making noise.
