  1. Thanks for the inputs! Good to hear about a 200k+ mile fusion. It's the first one I've heard of that's still going in the last year or so, and congrats that is quite the achievement! The new catalytic converter and necessary hardware will probably run me about $400 or so, which isn't a big deal since I've been driving it and know it runs and have only one engine code which is pretty pinpointed. It's just going to kill an afternoon and I've got a business trip coming up so I was going wait until I get back. I'll be getting It back to inspectable condition even if I sell it at this point. And that is absolutely priority one! I also appreciate the oil test recomendation. I just changed the oil last weekend and haven't disposed of the old stuff yet, so I'll have to do that as soon as I get back! Good idea! Thanks for the response, its greatly appreciated!!
  2. Still looking!! I just put in the steeda rear sway bar this weekend and so far am pretty happy but admittedly it made less of a difference than expected - the rear shocks are getting tired so it may be time to bite the bullet and get the motorcraft "sport tuned" suspension stuff and see what happens I did go with the lighter of the steeda sway bars so if your looking for rock solid go with the bigger one. Its up to 155k miles now and just recently had issues and has become my weekend/secondary/toy car though so I've got some thinking to do. as far as the KYB that's what ive got in the back - honestly not sure but rock auto is usually pretty bare bones on what they include. from my experience they aren't going to last long so I wouldn't recommend.
  3. Hi all, (if anyone is still around.?) I have an 08 v6 fusion with 155k miles. I've had it for 3 years and surprisingly still love it. - long story short- its now my backups and I plan to use it for to keep miles on my new car down/wekender - do i keep it or sell it before it self destructs again? a few months ago (just a week before my birthday) my fusion died on the way to work (30 miles each way) it spent 7 weeks with my mechanic (and $3K invested) he had me as a low priority knowing I have family cars to barrow. I finally told him to stop work, make it drivable and I drove it home (it had major exhaust leak - wouldn't idle and ran like crap) - I am very mechanically inclined but don't have a ton of free time due to working full time, commuting and doing my masters degree. here is what my mechanic did: replace PCM Replace 6 coils - had an exploded coil first time the exploding coil TSB wasn't followed properly and we think the pcm we got was bad. and we had to do it all over. he also replaced all 3 cats and the flex pipe saying they were all bad. when I took it back - the new catalytic converters were leaking so I returned them the originals were slightly clogged, but not really that bad so I cleaned them up and put them back on I then reset the PCM due to throttle body error codes (per fordtechmakuloco on youtube *shoutout* - thanks dude!) it is now running great but occasionally throwing a cat efficiency code which from asking around I should be able to take care of with a cleaning - I'm not worried about that at this point. during all of this I broke down and bought a '16 civic to enjoy the 40+ MPG I'm getting for my daily commute. So here is my question - I am interested in keeping the fusion as a weekend car/toy and to keep the mileage off the civic - BUT with these fusions getting older what is everyone's thoughts on keeping it, since the value is now next to nothing? even at high miles are they still pretty reliable? again I'm very mechanically inclined, I'm not worried about small maintenance stuff- just concerned about dumping thousands into it again just to keep it running. overall it is in good shape with almost no rust/rot if i keep it ill want to have fun with it -it already has a steeda sway bar and it would most likely get a magniflow exhaust and performance springs/shocks at a minimum. I'm very interested in the opinions of all my fellow high mileage hero's out there!!
  4. Hi all, I have a 2008 SEL V6, 117K miles I have had it for about a year, and the rear has always seemed to sit quite a bit low. There is absolutly no pogo-sticking in the suspention so I believe that the previous owner replaced the front coil overs and rear shocks, but left the original rear coil springs. I live in northern Maine and I am now starting to bottom out on occasion as the frost heaves start popping up. I have begun looking for replacements but cannot find anything but lowering springs which, given my location is not going to happen. I was able to find the motor craft springs but am not willing to pay 300 for a set, because that just doesn't make sense to me... Also I tow small trailers on occasion and drive aggressively, so if there is a stiffer than stock normal height or (or dropped less than .5" or so) spring that would be my ideal. also while I'm asking, I'm also thinking about a stiffer rear sway bar, as I've heard this is the most noticeable fusion upgrade, if anyone has a specific recommendation let me know! Thanks!!
  5. I found this along with some old speaker wiring pieces in the back of my 08 fusion. I do not have the audiophile system, but found this plug plugged into a cap under the rear deck. I'm looking to begin audio upgrades and just want to know what I have to work with. If anyone recognizes what this plug is please let me know! Thanks!
  6. Ive done some searching and there seemed to be many that claimed they were not removable and there seems to be confusion. This may not apply to all, but its worth a shot. just wanted to put this out there for anyone who searches it in the future. this was for my 2008 fusion SEL. Adjust the mirror all the way down and in. I suppose this will also work if you adjust all the way up and in there is a small plastic clip on the outside of the light housing, push it in with a fairly long screwdriver you can then remove the bulb holder which may need a little convincing. LED's require the correct polarity to work, so open the door and ensure the bulb works before reassembling. flip it over if it does not ENJOY! Ill add the result pictures after it gets dark
  7. So I'm a mechanical engineering student who has been driving a 96 Camry since I was 16. I finally saved enough and bought a 2008 fusion SEL V6 in black! Ive been looking around the forums and have found this one seems to be the biggest and best! Super happy with my new car and cant wait to begin making it mine! pic is of the old Camry and the new fusion!
