In fact, if you compare the battery capacity in the Fusion Hybrid (1.4 kWh) with that of the Fusion Hybrid Energi (7.46 kWh), you can see that the hybrid function uses relatively little battery capacity.

I suspect that there is a design flaw that Ford has failed to address for some time. The whole point of having a filler nozzle that stays on by itself is to allow you to step back and not inhale gas fumes, and maybe clean your windshield while you wait.
