  1. I figured as much it was bogus. I have over 158,000 miles on my Fusion and thankfully the trans is still holding in there *knocks on wood*. I did have a few leaks over the years. I had to replace the driver side axle seal & axle due to leaking under extended warranty, then again due to it leaking under ford service parts warranty. Then about a year and a half ago the trans lines were leaking. Just glad I keep some extra fluids around. Its been holding tight since then, but I still feel a bit paranoid over it.
  2. I keep seeing this supposed class action lawsuit regarding Ford Fusion 6F35 transmissions from 2010-2017. Is this a legit thing or is it bogus? Seems strange to me as it only names the Fusion, however this trans was also used in the Escape, fwd Explorers, some Transit Connects & I believe this was also shared with some Chevys. Anybody have any insight to this? https://lemonlawhelp.com/ford-fusion-lawsuit-repeated-transmission-problems/
  3. That's getting close to 3.5 water pump territory which is an 11 hour job due to being internal to the motor. I don't know what engine you have, but the 3.5 was no longer available in the fusion after 2012. Even if yours has the electric water pump it only retails for around $100 from the Ford dealer. I'd recheck those labor times he's charging you
  4. My '08 SE 2.3 had 189,000 when it met its unfortunate demise. Outside regular maintenance I had to replace air pump & valve, power steering pump, master cylinder & p/s front axle. My '12 SEL 2.5 is currently at 136,000. Had to replace d/s front axle & seal twice (both times warranty), both driver side calipers (warranty), FCIM (warranty dealer damaged while performing p/s airbag inflator recall), parking brake cable assembly & transmission lines.
  5. Wow that crazy. I'm not sure how the newer ones are setup. My 2012 2.5 is just one belt and the passenger wheel has to come off to replace it. If you have two belts one is probably a streachy belt and that needs a special tool which you can probably rent from autozone or advance. Hope all works out
  6. Yep, ran into this issue with my '12 a couple years ago. Replaced them with dormans, but don't recall the part number off hand. Also ran into this with my Grand Cherokee, but funny enough I don't recall this ever happening in the 7 years I had my '08 Fusion
  7. How did you determine the passenger tie rod needing replacement? Does the wheel have play side to side or up & down? To me what your describing sounds like a wheel bearing
  8. One difference between the Mazda 2.3 and the Ford 2.3 although nearly identical is the Mazda has an electric power steering whereas the Ford is belt driven. The Mazda 3 had a big recall on those electric power steering pumps a few years ago. There are some other differences I don't recall off hand, but I believe they are mostly electrical.
  9. I didn't want to keep waiting incase the line fully let go. I got them replaced with the ford lines & did the upper ones going into the trans as well. $600 down the drain, but hopefully these last. Sure pays to regularly check the fluids.
  10. I need to replace the transmission lines on my '12 2.5 SEL. When I went to do my oil change I noticed the underside of the car was soaked. Traced it back to the transmission cooler lines under the radiator which were rotten looking and soaked. Also found my trans fluid to be on the low side, but still in the useable range, but am going to top it off with some LV I have leftover at home. Are there better replacements options than the Ford ones like stainless steel or is that just it? The Ford guy told me its common for these to go bad.
  11. Some great info guys I greatly appreciate the help. I also didn't realize the 1.5 runs a timing belt opposed to a chain which I am not a fan of. I'm still gonna try to stick with the 2.5 for her. I did come across a clean '16 with a 2.5 about 35-40 mins from here so were going to go check it out this weekend if its still there.
  12. Thanks alcohenusa, but that's over her price range and too far away lol. I appreciate the thought though. Waldo, Generally looking at OE brand dealers, but a reputable licensed used car dealer is not ruled out. Most dealers will offer some kind of warranty upsell whether it be just powertrain or something that covers major components with some kind of deductible. The latter is what I got on my '12 Fusion for 3 years/unlimited miles when I purchased it at a Dodge dealer with 70k at 5 years old. I will check into the rental company used cars see whats out there. Regarding the cooling system issues....I heard something about the 1.5 being prone to head gasket issues. Is there any truth to that?
  13. I'm trying to help my niece who is in need of a new car to travel to school with by the end of summer. She stated she really likes the Fusion her neighbor has which is a dark grey 2018 titanium. She's driven my '12 2.5 SEL & said she really likes it. My in-laws want her to buy from a dealer so she has some kind of a warranty with it. Needless to say the pickings out there have been very slim. I did come across a very clean dealer maintained 2014 SE with 80,000 miles, however it is a 1.5 ecoboost. My experience is only with the 2.3/2.5 engines & know those are pretty solid engines so I was exclusively looking to find a 2.5. This one just happened to stick out to me and looks sharp in the dark side metallic paint. I don't know much about the 1.5 ecoboost and was hoping some of you out there with experience may know if they are prone to issues or if they're built to last.
  14. Going out to lunch today my Fusion decided to pop on the CEL, but seems to run fine otherwise. Stopped home got my scanner & came up with P0456 very small evap leak. I reset it and so far after driving about 15 miles it hasn't come back on yet. Is there anything common that causes this code to pop up? Its a 2012 with the 2.5
  15. I prefer using Purolator Pureone. The oil stays noticeably cleaner after a couple thousand miles, but they are also pricey. I tend to stock up when I can find a good sale on them. Otherwise I go OE with the Motorcraft or Mazda brand filters.
  16. twiggy144 I think your spot on with my issue. Had the cable replaced and had to get the rear pads again, but at least all is well now. The wife drives this one more than I do so she doesn’t tell me anything until I notice something off when I drive or it gets really bad. ?‍♂️
  17. Hello all, haven’t really posted around here much, but I surf from time to time. I am having on-going issues with the parking brake on my 2012 fusion to where it doesn’t fully release when it’s below freezing out until the brakes are fully heated up which sometimes takes a while. When this happens there is play in the lever and you can feel the car dragging slightly. I already had my driver side rear caliper replaced last year for locking up and smoking. The other day it was dragging bad so I turned around and went home. When I parked I noticed it was the same caliper smoking again. Had anyone have issues like this when it’s below freezing out if so what was the fix? The dealer wants to replace my emergency brake cables instead of warrantying the caliper for me, but I don’t think the cables are the issue. Btw I never had this happen on my ‘08
  18. I'd go either Motorcraft of NGK. Been happy with both. Stay away from the Autolite XP spark plugs. I bought a set from rockauto for my fusion and when they came in the spark plugs were actually shorter in length than what was in the car. Idk if that how they are or if they were boxed wrong or what, but went through a whole hassle with rockauto and back and fourth with pictures etc and even after all that they still wanted to charge me to return them. Never again
  19. I would & I did. Had a 2008 2.3 SE which was unfortunately totaled in an accident with 189,000 miles, but luckily I walked out virtually unscathed. Replaced it last year with a 2012 2.5 SEL. Both were purchased used. As far as the 2008 Fusion I've had to replace the power steering pump, the air pump, 1 ignition coil & the passenger axle, but that was it. I also had ongoing issues with creaking from the front suspension only on hot humid days which was temporarily resolved with spraying some white lithium grease on the components. Other than that just maintenance. It was great on our trip to Tennessee. On our way back we wade it from Sevierville TN all the way to Winchester VA on 1 tank of gas which is a good 400-something miles. I probably could have pushed it further too, but decided not to. The 2012 is definitely a little more refined and I can definitely tell more European influence went into it. Took me a little bit to get used to all the buttons. The power & economy from the 2.5 & the extra gear made a nice difference. I've put on about 25,000 miles in the past year I've had it. It seems to have more bugs with it. So far I've had to replace PCM, MAF sensor & driver side axle seal with axle. Luckily the PCM, axle seal & axle were covered on the extended warranty. Once in a rare while the blind spot monitors bug out & disable, but then fixes itself when I restart the car. That has only happened twice so far. I do like the exterior styling of the 2013+ Fusions and think they are one of the best looking sedans out there right now, however being behind the wheel I just don't like them as much as the 1st gen models. Seems like the reliability went down with these as well from what I've read online. I test drove a 2014 2.5 SE before buying my 2012 & I had a 2018 Titanium as a rental from the dealer. I don't think I would buy one personally, but would go for another 2006-2012 model if something happens to this one. I feel like the 1st gen Fusions are some of the best cars Ford ever produced.
  20. Just an update... I have an extended warranty coverage on the vehicle which would cover repairs done at an independent repair facility as long as they warranty their work for at least 12/12. I had it towed to a shop in town which I've done business with before and works with warranty companies. After looking over the car & running all their tests they determined the problem is the PCM. I don't fully recall everything he told me basically there is no spark, no fuel and that the PCM is getting power, but is only partially functioning. Both fortunately & unfortunately the PCM is still covered by Ford's manufacturers warranty and needed to get towed to the dealer. Either way I will be covered no matter what's wrong with it just depends if I have to pay a deductible or not. T-G my wife is a AAA plus member
  21. It's just cranking and cranking not starting at all. I'm wondering if the position sensor codes are just a side effect of the not being able to start. If the CHT is the cause of the no start wouldn't I have seen other symptoms prior like a check engine light or erratic temp gauge?
  22. Had a 2008 Fusion 2.3 SE which unfortunately met its demise after being run into by a box truck. I was the only one in the car and fortunately walked out with only very minor injuries due to the airbag going off. We liked that car so much we found a relatively low miles 2012 Fusion 2.5 SEL. Anyway foward to this morning the new fusion is just cranking and cranking, but not turning over. Doesn't even sound like it's trying to catch. The car drove perfectly fine the night before no warning or anything. When I turn the key to accessory I can hear the fuel pump kick on. Everything looks to be in order under the hood. I plugged in my scanner and it's coming up with 3 pending codes in this order P0122 throttle/pedal position sensor A circuit low input P0223 throttle/pedal position sensor B circuit high input P1289 vehicle code defined by manufacturer The first two seem to point at the electronic throttle body. The 3rd after doing some research seems to be something with the cyl head temp sensor. Correct me if I am wrong. Any advice before I have to call a tow for things to check or what's causing the crank with no start condition all of a sudden?
  23. I have a 2008 fusion se with the standard 6-disc in dash MP3 cd changer. The green lcd display on the radio has become very dim. At first it was only dark around the outer edges now it's completely hard to see especially in the daylight. Ford pretty much told me I'm fucked that I would have to purchase a new one for $500-something dollars plus programming etc. I'm currently looking into a couple places to get a quote on getting the display repaired. In the meantime if I do have to replace the whole thing I would like to upgrade to the 6-disc navigation like I have in my '07 Explorer. I'm just having a hard time finding one out of a fusion. Would one out of a 4th gen explorer work or any other models? Would it also need programming?
  24. My wife owns a 2008 Ford Fusion 2.3 SE. We've been very happy with the car, however recently it's been popping up with the dreaded p0420 code eventhough the car has no driveability issues. Now this car has the damn ca emissions so it has two cat converters, but only the front one which is integrated into the exhaust manifold has o2 sensors (3 of them). I am certain this dreaded code means I will have to replace the manifold. I am wondering what are my options out there, Are there cated headers or a ported exhaust manifold available for the 2.3 in this application?
