  1. Thanks for the information. That's roughly what I guessed since it is a matter to taking out the wheel and two bolts. I guess I will do future repair in another dealer......
  2. The dealer told me that they will charge $150 for diagnostic. If it is indeed sway bar link, they need two hours of labor plus parts to fix it. He cannot say exact cost but that is a rough estimates. I asked him if he is sure he needs two hours to do it. The service advisor said they need to take off the wheel and the whole suspension to replace it. I am speechless......
  3. The unfortunate thing is that the car is just out of warranty for a few months. And I am not completely sure it is the sway bar link. Since the parts is cheap, doing it myself is a just a low risk trial. Doing it at the dealer is probably not expensive either. Half an hour labor plus parts will probably get it done. Good luck on your coming suspension work!
  4. Thanks for the videos. Yes, I have watched a few of these about replacing sway bar link. I am just not sure whether I need to lift both sides. Yes, I will not corner hard. I will be slow.......
  5. If I want to replace the sway bar link myself, should I do it when the car is lifted or on the ground? Should both side be lifted or can I do it with only one side lifted? I consulted the service manual but that just specify the torque on the nuts and tells me to use the "hex holding feature" when loosening and tightening the nuts.
  6. I have experienced a squeaky noise coming from the lower passenger door. I have tried to press down on bunch of parts to see where the noise comes from. It seems pressing down on the shiny plastic panel that holds the window buttons helped. Nothing seems to loose. In general, I feel the car interior just rattles a lot, even compared to the old Pontiac Grand Prix I have. I don't know if it is a general problem with Ford Fusion or I just have a bad one.
  7. I heard the noise last night when I parked my car at a friend's house. It was slightly nose down too. This time, the car is warm. So the noise can occur when the car is warm. I showed the mechanic the video when I took the car in for door latch recall. He speculated it to be some pump noise. But he said since it does not replicate, it is hard to know. I have no idea what it is and it is hard to replicate. I will just keep updating this thread whenever I hear it in case it is helpful for other people.
  8. Thanks for the insights. The mechanic told me about the chassis ears after showing me the slight play. But he said that since the sway bar link is so cheap (OEM one is just like 13 dollars from the local dealer), he would change the sway bar link before diagnostics. Diagnostic is going to cost more than the sway bar link. But he suggests me just wait until it gets worse. If it is indeed the sway bar link, it will become loose eventually and it will be obvious what the source of noise is. I can change the link and get the problem solved then. if it is not that, they can diagnose later.
  9. 2014 Ford Fusion SE with about 21500 miles. Just out of bumper to bumper warranty for a few months. I heard a weak clunk sound when driving on rough road. It does not occur when I go over speed bumps. The noise seems to come from front passenger side. I can reproduce it by driving on a rough road. I asked the dealer about it when taking the car in for the door latch recall. They checked the suspension on the lift and told me that everything is tight. The mechanic said it could just be the tension in the suspension and tell me not to worry about it. I also consulted a local shop. The mechanic put the car on a alignment lift (so the suspension is under load compared to being lifted) and showed me that the front passenger side sway bar link has a very very slight play. I can feel the slight play when I try to violently shake it. The driver side one is firm and I cannot feel any play. Shaking the sway bar link does not produce any noise. Shaking the car around does not make any noise either. All the rubber bushing looks fine. No apparent damage or leak from the strut either. My question is: should sway bar link has any play in it? Could that be the cause of clunk noise I heard? What else should I check? I posted in another forum but haven't got any suggestions. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
  10. I took the car to the dealer this morning for the door latch recall repair. I asked the mechanic about the noise. He says it is indeed the brake. His wife has the same car and does the same thing. It is completely normal.
  11. Frank, have you got your headliner fixed? How does it go? It has been about three weeks after mine has been fixed. It seems to the fix still holds but not as neat as it is right after the repair. The headliner dropped a little more but the weatherstripping still cover the edge of headliner (although just cover the edge of the headliner). It seems the headliner drops a little bit when parking the car in the sun and come up at night. I guess it is just expansion and shrinking of materials due to temperature change. Also, the A-trim piece is more flexible when hot so maybe it does not provide as strong a support. I will keep an eye on it and see how it hold up.
  12. After some search, I think W716510-S300 is what I am looking for. It is the same retainer used in fender liner.
  13. Here is a better view. I am looking for the green circle in the second picture. http://www.happywrenching.com/ford/fusion/ford-fusion-front-bumper-cover-removal-guide-second-gen-2013.html
  14. Thanks! It seems number 7 is not what I am looking for. Number 11 is held in place with three pins. One closest to the center is a screwed in bolt and the other two are plastic push in pins. These two plastic pins are what I am looking for. It seems the diagram did not show the pins.
  15. It is for a 2014 Ford Fusion SE with 2.5L engine. I have a few of the plastic pin/fastener missing from the bottom of the front bumper (probably because I scratch the bottom of the bumper when I drive out of a steep driveway). I would like to replace them. What are the part number of these? I tried to look on Fordparts.com but I am not sure whether I am looking at the correct part number. I took a screen shot of a video tutorial on front bumper removal. The picture shows what I am talking about. The video is here: At 2:49 you can see where these plastic pins are. Thanks!
  16. Nice floor mats and nice fit. On the other hand, the OEM carpet floor mat is so thin and feels cheap. Is there any replacement carpet floor mat that's a little thicker? The one coming with the car is plain black. I know there is the floor mats made by Ford with a Fusion logo on it. I am not sure whether that's the same carpet as the one comes with the car or not.
  17. I always remember that the engine needs three things to work: fuel, air and spark. If it runs fine for a while and then randomly decide to shut down, it sounds to me some sort of electronic problem. I previously had a Pontiac and it shut down once when I am driving on highway. It turns out that a ignition coil is bad and that subsequently destroy the ignition control module. I am new to Ford so I am not particularly familiar with the components on a Fusion. But electrical problem could be it. It would be helpful if you could elaborate on what the shop has done and what their opinion is. Any other symptom you observed will also be very useful for a online diagnosis.
  18. Thanks for the info. It looks like the Fusion still has some headliner issue, although I don't know how wide spread it is. I carefully examined all doors. It looks like the driver side are both pretty good. Headliner edge is in good shape and hide nicely under the weather strip. The front passenger side just gets fixed today. The rear passenger side headliner edge (where C pillar trim piece meets the headliner) just barely hind under the weatherstrip. Hopefully that side did not fall. I probably will put a bit glue on the edge to make sure it does not fray.
  19. I think warranty might be part of it. The service advisor first suggested replacement of headliner before he realize that my car is out of bumper to bumper warranty (It is a 2014 with 20000 miles. But it was built in Oct 2013). But he later told me that Ford tells them the way to fix it. So warranty might be part of it but I don't know for sure. He also mentioned that the replacement headliner they use to fix the Flat Rock built fusion has the added magnet. It is possible that they have already improved the headliner. But I don't know that for sure. Another possible reason is that your headliner just seem to budge out while mine seems to fall down. That might also influence how they fix it. I suspect mine is not necessarily a bad headliner. It looks like the passenger side interior panel has been pried. I really speculate that someone did some repair on that side but was not very careful when removing panels and moving headliners. The trim piece was probably pried out of shape and lose its rigidity to support the headliner. I will keep an eye on the longevity of the fix and report back if I have any problem later. So far, it looks the fix is pretty good.
  20. Exactly, the service advisor told me that it is part of the fastening system at the factory. He said the replacement headliner for the Flat Rock built fusion already has the additional magnet in it. What Ford told them to do is to add one in the front passenger side in the current headliner to fix it in my case. I am not sure the exact location they add it but he told me it is somewhere around the sun visor area. I know there are two magnet on the rear end of the headliner. In your diagram, are all the purple dots the "magnet fasteners"?
  21. I should have asked to see the support piece before they repair it. The service advisor told me that the support piece is installed somewhere behind the passenger side sun visor. It is not very close to the edge So I cannot see it. The new trim piece seems to be a lot more rigid than the old one (which is probably deformed from some improper maintanence). The A-pillar trim piece supports the headliner on the edge. That seems to be the key to resolve the headliner issue.
  22. I got my headliner issue fixed. The headliner is not replaced. They replaced the passenger side A- and B-pillar trim pieces and put a magnetic support near the passenger side roof. The service manager told me that this repair procedure is according to instructions from Ford as he talked to them on the phone on Monday. It seems to me that the new interior trim piece provides the support for the headliner and is the key to resolve the issue.
  23. If it is indeed 150 watts, it should be able to power a cell phone charger. The iPhone charger is 5 watts. The iPad charger is 12 watts. The 15 inch MacBook Pro charger is 90 watts. 150 watts should be plenty to power a cell phone. I don't know why it is not safe to put extension cord. To me, it shouldn't matter since it is just a wire. Whether it is a wire inside a charger or in an extension cord should not matter. But I don't know enough about this to be sure. Someone with more expertise should chime in.
  24. One of the push in plastic clips/pins that holds the underbody shield was broken. I don't know whether that is the cause of the noise or not. I replaced the broken clips and I will keep observing whether the noise comes back or not.
  25. When I brought in the car for a headliner repair, I asked the service manager about this noise. His explanation is that this is from the bushings in the suspension. When I shift into gear, the engine apply torque to the car and the noise comes from bushings loading the torque. That sounds reasonable too. But anyway, he says this is normal and no need to worry about it.
