  1. Problem Fixed. Ford replaced the evaporator and that solved the problem A/C worked without any issues for the rest of the warmer September. What I did notice was when I set the climate control at 70deg for heat, the a/c compressor cycled, something it didn't to in the past. Really put a damper on mpg's specially with the reformulated gas in the NE. I dropped 3-4mpg's. I notice if I did a selection of where I wanted the air to blow, that (the buttons on the control head on the right side) the a/c compress or would not cycle and mpg's improved. When I spoke to ford service the tech said that was the way it was supposed to work ????? It doesn't matter because I was so frustrated with the year long situation and some other things were starting to go at 80k miles I decided to get rid of the fusion. Mechanically the car was outstanding but the little electrical and nuisance issues that kept popping up over the past year was very frustrating and wasn't worth the aggravation. For those of you who have an extended warrantee, I still had a year in time and 15k miles left and when I called ford to get a refund on the unused portion of the warrantee, I was told that since they did work under the extended warrantee (over $5k spent trying to fix the a/c problem which took them a year to figure out) that any potential refund would be reduced by the amount they paid out. So in other words, if you get the extended warrantee and sell your car before it expires, if you had any work done, they reduce what they would give you back by the amount of the work. When I got the car they dealer told me that not only would it be transferrable but if I sold it I would get a refund on the remaining time......................they were not telling me the truth. When I sold my Altima, which was a real lemon car, Nissan refunded me the balance on the extended warrantee with no issue! Way to go Ford! ! !
  2. My 2010 which is basically the same took several months to fix. After changing lines, condenser, sensors (I have climate control) they finally pulled the evaporator which was slightly blocked. All done under the extended warrantee
  3. I am in Union County about 5 minutes from exit 135 on the Garden State Parkway. The wheels are Ford factory 17" fusion wheels (not he 18" sport wheels that came on the car). They have the ford TPMS sensors on the valve stem. The tires fit my wife's new car but the wheels don't so I figure when I get her new winter tires, I will just get the whole package including new tpms sensors for her since she didn't get a ford.
  4. I am selling my 17" wheels and tires (tpms sensors mounted on wheels) from my 2001 Fusion Sport. The Michilin X-Ice2 tires have two light seasons on them and the wheels have a few winter type scratches on one of them. The tires has a lot of tread on them and I am only asking $400 for the wheels and mounted tires with the tpms sensors attached. I live in NJ and not sure how expensive it would be to ship but at this price it might be work it for you to have them shipped.
  5. I think they are a little lost on what the problem was. They tech blew air thru the evaporator and didn't think it was plugged. I did have this problem once the first time I used the a/c on a warm humid day on a longer trip. The system froze up on my way out to Iowa. I was near a ford dealership on I80 so I pulled in and in the 15 minutes it took for them to take a look at the car, there was a pool of water underneath and the problem "fixed itself" The dealer suggested that I just leave the climate control on a temp and not use the fan speed control like on a manual a/c car. I did that and didn't have the problem again until it popped up last summer. As far as a blockage, the FSE seemed to think that was the issue and I guess changing everything out got rid of whatever was causing the blockage but I did notice after they changed the condenser, it froze up within a few minutes not the normal 20 minutes so perhaps the theory that whatever was in there got blow into the evaporator might be what occurred. We are going to get some 70's over the next few days and I will run the a/c to see if it happens again. I sure hope not because I am tired of all of this
  6. I think they may have solved my problem. Picked up car today and used a/c for about 45 minutes without any freezing up of the evaporator. Tech said that since he put in the new evaporator (he also checked out a lot of other things) that the a/c was cycling and after running the a/c for about an hour and then a hour test drive, system seemed to be running fine. I will watch over the next few days and see how it goes
  7. Well, here my car has been in the service bay since last Tuesday. They pulled out the dash and since I have a 3.5, a lot of the motor had to be taken off to access the a/c lines to the evaporator. Yesterday I went by to see what was going on and the car was back together. Unfortunately the tech said when they put in the Freon, he saw that the line seals were leaking. I always thought that whenever you open up a a/c line you always change out the seals??? I guess it isn't in the SOP that ford has to do that. Anyway, they were waiting for the parts to be delivered today and they said I should finally have my car this hopefully today (which didn't happen) or tomorrow. I sure hope this replacement fixes the problem. We are going to get some warmer temps over the next few days so I can see if it works.
  8. Dealer hasn't started working on car yet so I don't know if the evaporator replacement is going to do the trick.
  9. Sure thing, I will post if changing the evaporator solved the problem. They are doing it on Tuesday. One thing I would suggest, giver ford customer care a call and explain the problem your having and get a reference number. If the car is not currently covered, you did bring it to the dealer to have it fixed and they didn't fix it correctly they should not continue to charge and charge you for their trying to find a fix.The dealer techs are supposed to be experts and they have all the computers to figure this out. This is what the sales guys always tell you to get your service business. I would complain and tell them that you will pay when they figure out the right problem. You can also tell them that you have been on the internet and other people are having the same problem. (I wonder if it was a bad component, my care was made very early in production in 2009 I think February). I assume they changed the TSB parts and it didn't work. As I indicated, I had to pay the $100 deductible for my ford extended warrantee just once, the first time and I refused to pay the next few times because they "failed to diagnose and fix the problem" and that has been working. Even Ford said I would not have to pay the deductible because they "couldn't fix the problem"
  10. Well, so far no news about the dealer getting my part. I get the feeling that I am continuing to get jerked around. As much as I hate saying this because most of my new cars have been fords, after this experience I am going to have to think long and hard about buying another one even if they are already telling me that they will give me a xplan pin. In a few more weeks I will not need a/c or perhaps they are going to tell me it is fixed when it isn't and come spring, will have the problem all over again
  11. Perhaps that is what they are thinking. A year ago when this all started I suggested that it might be the evaporator and they said that they blew air thru it and it wasn't blocked. I had a similar problem with my home a/c last summer. I was recovering from a major operation and forgot to clean out the air filters so airflow thru the evaporator went down substantially. In the middle of the night the a/c unit started to make a noise and when I checked the evaporator was totally iced up. I shut down the compressor and in about 5 minutes, it had cleared itself but didn't take long to freeze up again. I cleaned the filters the next morning and everything worked fine. Last summer when it froze up I checked the cabin filter which I had changed about a month prior to the problem and it was clean but I continued to have the problem. As I indicated, perhaps the evaporator sensor was the initial problem but as you suggested, some of the fins or perhaps line deformed and prevented sufficient air flow because, if I am sitting in traffic and it is really hot outside, it takes a lot longer to freeze up then driving at 50mph on a 80deg day
  12. Wow, I really started some discussion and really appreciate it all. When I called today they were very specific that they were going to change the evaporator. Their thinking (along with the FSE) is that there is some sort of blockage which makes a little sense. I am wondering if the evaporator sensor was faulty but by the time the got around to changing it, there was some damage done to the evaporator itself. Is it possible that some of the fins or tubes were deformed by the cycling of freezing and thawing to the point where there is restricted air flow thru the evaporator which causes the evaporator to freeze up? I hate to suggest anything. Oh, I did ask the tech if they changed out the PCM and he said no but they did replace the a/c module. They also told me that they went thru some process to check out all the connectors and resistance in the lines and they were all ok. They did the check on the connectors/pins last November and checked the lines sometime in the spring. The tech in Florida was told to check out the lines but I had to head north so he didn't have time to do that. The service manager suggested that it might be the compressor but frankly, the compressor does run and I can hear it cycling on and off when I am sitting still. However, it still freezes up. I am just a little pissed off because of the tremendous amount of inconvenience I have to go thru when they need the car. Not only that, today I had to head over to Staten Island to pick up some parts for my Harley and doing a 17 mile drive took over 2 hours there and back due to construction and traffic. Sitting in 90+ high humidity and heat didn't make me a very happy camper. What really ticked me off was when I was on the phone with the service manager and he asked how I was doing I told him sitting in a non-ac car in traffic and his comment to me was that I should have taken my wife's car! ! ! What an A hole
  13. The latest and greatest......................received a call from the service manager that the FSE suggested that they change the evaporator. As soon as they get the part they will give me a call and do the replacement. Sure hope it works.
  14. I wrote to the executive vice president for the Americas and sent them the 9 pages of notes of every encounter I had with the service department and their comments. They received it August 20th (I sent express mail) so I figure it is going to take a few days for it to trickle down. As far as the changing the compressor, as I indicated, they are thinking that may be the problem but who knows, perhaps there is something wrong with the evaporator or the evaporator box. If I put the fan on high it takes a log longer for the system to freeze. I also noticed on very humid days, it stops blowing cold after about 10 minutes with misting form the ducts before all air flow stops yet the blower is going full speed. I am not upset at Fords in general, for the past 20 years, all my fords have been wonderful cars, so good that I sold them to young men who live on my street and they drove them for years. When my mother-in-law passed away 7 years ago, my nephews got her ford that had almost 200k miles and they have been driving it every since. They live out in South Dakota and everything is hours away! I think overall Ford makes a great product my issue is with Ford service who can't get their act together. Had I been in charge, I would have pulled every part out of the system and replaced them with new parts than go over every part to find the one causing the problem. Considering they already pulled the dash 3 times, changed lines and the condenser along with the dryer and several sensors and actuators for the air mixing door, add to that the cost of having me in a loaner/rental car for close to 75 days....they spent big bucks. I wish they would fix once and for all but at this point in time, it might be less expensive to just buy me out of the car so I can get a new one. They already told me that they would give me a new vehicle at the X plan price.
  15. So here we are, middle of August with summer almost over and my a/c is still not working correctly. Have been waiting for a week to find out what the next step is going to be. The service manager now thinks it is the compressor but is awaiting the field service engineer to contact him to discuss. I am getting jerked around by the customer service manager so a last step before I send in my story to the nyc tv news station was to send a letter to Ford Corporate including a complete summary of events for the past year and express my frustration about Ford's lack of ability to fix my car. They received the letter on Tuesday and they have yet to be in contact with me about anything. After this experience, I am getting to the point where I will no longer consider purchasing a Ford ever again!
  16. I don't know if they did that but I do recall that they said that the compressor was cycling . I do recall that the compressor did cycle when they manually forced it to do so by disconnecting I think the sensor wire. I also noticed that if I leave the temp at 70 and keep the blower on high, I can hear the compressor kick in and out. When they call me to have me take the car in, I will ask if they checked the compressor clutch to see if it is ok. WOW did I just get the phonecall of my life ! ! ! Called service department and asked for the service writer who has been responsible for me and who was supposed to call me Friday or today to let me know that the parts are in and they told me that he no longer worked at the dealership ! ! ! No wonder they didn't call. You just can't make this stuff up any more. Just got off the phone with the service department. They want me to bring in my car Friday to change the condenser. According to them, they have about 250 cars to fix in a recall so Friday is the soonest they can get my car in. They tell me it is only a few hours to fix. So much for my priority, after all, they have been trying to fix this since last august. Hopefully this time they will get it fixed
  17. From what the Ford rep told me on the phone, the FSE's are having them change the condenser I guess because they think there is a blockage which I really don't understand. I would think that perhaps the evaporator which has gone a lot of freeze thaw cycles is at the point where the lines may have been crushed so it is freezing up. who knows. I am hoping that it is going to fix the problem. They tested out the harness and all the resistances were ok. They changed out the evap temp sensor I think now for the third time about the only tings left are the a/c computer or the compressor. If I set the temp on 70deg and put the blower speed on manual at the highest setting, it takes a very long time for it to stop blowing cool air as well as air from the vents. I also noticed the other day it was very humid and just before I lost air flow I got a lot of misting form the a/c ducts. I have to think that ford is spending a huge amount of money trying to fix this issue. It is a shame because the car runs great otherwise and I have been very happy with it.
  18. Here it is August and my a/c problem is still not resolved. Ford had the car for over a month awaiting a FSE who told them to again change the evaporator temp sensor which they did and the problem still exists. Although I have figured out how to live with it, I shut off the ac button when air flow starts to get warm and low for a few minutes until the evaporator thaws and then use the a/c again. I find that sitting in traffic I can go longer before freezing but driving at normal speeds, it stops working faster. The latest that they can come up with is to change out the condenser. To me that doesn't make any sense unless the dryer is part of the condenser part itself. If anything, I would think that with the hundreds of freeze thaw cycles the evaporator has gone thru, the tubing in the evaporator might have been pinched causing more freezing of the evaporator itself. I can't believe that the dealer has been working on this issue for over 1 year without success. Ford is giving me the run around saying that it is their job to get me to work with the dealer. They also told me to keep with the same service department because other dealers don't want to "fix" another dealers problems. While I like that they are going to give me a X plan pin if I purchase a new ford, I am having a lot of difficulty ever considering a new ford product. The other day I was looking at other makes and they were going to give me a great deal on a new one and a good price on mine for trade. Since I have a sport, I figure someone who is going to buy it likes to have a sport and I am sure the dealer was either going to put it out on the lot of wholesale so sooner or later someone was going to get screwed with a flawed a/c system and I just can't do that to someone who would most likely come to this site for help. For the cost they have already spent trying to fix this car, they should just replace everything such as the evaporator and compressor just in case and also give them the opportunity to check those parts to see what was causing the problem. Instead, I keep getting inconvenienced and jerked around. I never had problems like this with any other car I owned.
  19. Fortunately, I have the ford extended warrantee so sooner or later it is going to get fixed. Still don't know if they did any work at all on it last week and nobody has given me a call with an estimate on how long it is going to take. In the mean time, I will drive one of the loner cars. Would have been nice if I got a MKS but I will make due with the focus. Boy, that thing go a long way on a gallon of gas! I am wondering how much Ford has already spent trying to get to the bottom of this. I bet it would be more cost effective to buy me out and get me into a new car that it is going to cost to find this problem if they have a electrical issue and have to hunt it down to get to a solution
  20. Sent via PM. One thing I am recalling...............they tested two sensors, I think they thought one was someplace near the firewall and the other near the compressor but that was a while ago. This problem occurred once when I first got the car. I was driving on a very humid day with the temp at 60 and the fan blower on slow and it stopped blowing air. I was near a ford dealer out in PA and while waiting for them to look at it, saw a huge pool of water under the car. When I started the car and ran the a/c it worked without any issue until last summer. I also had a problem with the outside temp indicator. It would never read the correct temp so on some of those very hot 100+ days we got two summers ago, it would read 75deg and the ac wouldn't cool all that good on auto. I think the service department needed to reprogram something and then it worked fine. The tech said that the improper reading could mess up the a/c on auto
  21. Here is some of the information about the attempts this one is from florida where they replaced the lines 1-AE5Z-19E616-A MOTOR ASY 1-AE6Z19835-C TUBE ASY 1-AE6Z-19D734-A TUBE ASY 29-YN-19 REFRIGERANT 1-YN-12-D OIL-COMPRES 1-AE5Z-19849-A VALVE ASY-EV this was the work done in November. In October before I had to go to florida, the NJ dealer did the following 19700A PRESSURE LEAK TEST, DISCHARGE, EVACUATE AND CHARGE AIR CONDIONING SYSTEM 1-AE5Z-19849-A VALVE ASY-EVAPORATOR EXPANSION 14-YN-19-REFRIGERANT-R-134A 19700A13 VALVE-AIR CONDITIONER EVAPORATOR EXPANSION-REPLACE (19849) 1700A13 FILL AND BLEED AC SYSTEM 19700A PRESSURIZE, LEAK TEST, CISCHARGE, EVACUATE AND CHARGE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM fc: C20 42 PART #: AE5Z-19849-A Some of the other paperwork is in the car at the dealer. The first attempt they said that they had to reprogram the computer that was back in late July, early August. That fix didn't work I still had the freezing up issue. Since I was recovering from my cancer surgery for about a month, I didn't drive the car for more then 10 or 15 minutes at a time so everything seemed good so I thought it was fixed. When I finally drove for more then an hour, the a/c stopped blowing air and froze up again. When I took it in they said the had to reprogram the computer but didn't give me any paperwork on it, said it was not necessary. I figured that they put in the new program. They also said that they ran it for hours and it didn't freeze up. I noticed that they had run it for hours since I left it with a full tank and it was about 1/3 full. I also noticed that they ran it with the a/c on max with recirculation. The next day when I used the a/c with the temp set at 70 an full automatic, the lines froze up again. When I took it back to show them, they pulled the car into the service area to check the evaporator drain and it was clear. Two techs manually disconnected the sensor that cycles the compressor and they also listened to see if the compressor was cycling and at that time it was cycling. I needed the use of a car and they didn't have a loaner available so I took it back the following week which was the October work. If you still need the vin let me know and I will send it to you.
  22. When I open the hood, both lines have a coating of ice on them and where the lines go into the firewall, the ice seems to be heavier. I am too frustrated because it really seems like the evaporator is freezing up (no air flow). I questioned the tech a number of times to see if there is a problem with the evaporator and they tell me no. As I indicated, Ford service in Naples florida changed the lines going to and from the condenser. I can't see if the condenser is freezing up but the lines that go into the condenser have ice on them. One tech cleaned all the contacts and they thought that would work but it didn't. I was with them one day when they checked to see if the drain was clogged and it was open. Several of the techs are scratching their heads on this one. Ford wanted the tech to start tracing each of the wires in the harness when I was in florida (as well as here in NJ when I came back) but they didn't do that. I assume that Ford is going to have them do this testing this week. I wonder if the computer is the problem and needs to be replaced? I am almost positive that they changed the sensor in the vent but what scares me is the tech in florida said when he had to change a sensor and I think he said that the tech in NJ installed the wrong sensor. I wonder if the sport with climate control and another option Fusion have different sensors? Could they have upgraded the program (as required by the tsb) with the incorrect update? I am finding this very frustrating. Last year everytime I put car into reverse the ringing from the sensors kept going. They reprogrammed whatever they had to do, changed a sensor in the rear bumper and after several attempts of fixing, had to change the instrument cluster which was where they found the problem.
  23. It is a combination of both. With the ac on after about 20 minutes I lose air flow and cooling from the vents. If I open the hood, both lines are frozen white sometimes with at least 1/8 ice coating on both lines going to the condenser. From what I understand, they applied one of the TSBs I believe it was the reprogramming of the computer as well as changed out sensors and the mixing door actuator sensor. They also replaced all the lines from the evaporator and condenser (seems that the connectors on the fords are not all that great and they leak. This was done in florida. The tech told me that there may have been a leak in one of the lines but it is also possible that he identified some tracer dye that might have escaped when they were trying other things at the dealer here in NJ. I don't think the lines were leaking. Clearly the evaporator is freezing up. My concern now is how often am I going to have to try and get this fixed since they told me they fixed it several times and they didn't. I don't think the lemon law comes into play since I am under the extended warrantee but I have to figure the only way to solve this problem is to replace the entire system including controllers, computers, lines, evaporator, condensers and all the other parts. It would be less expensive for ford to buy me out of the car which would be fine with me if I didn't like the car but I really like my sport and don't want a different car
