  1. Two weeks ago my 2010 Fusion Hybrid was hit by a rock kicked up by a car and helped along by very gusty winds while I was going about 60 mph. I saw it coming then it very hard and startled me for a few seconds. The rock left a pretty good size chip and small lengthwise crack underneath about dime size in diameter. I was very surprised after how hard it hit the windshield did not have a huge crack. Fixed it over the weekend with fix-a-winshield ($10 on amazon) and it's practically invisible now.

  2. A question for those of you who have had the brake update done, did you get a letter from Ford about it before you took it to the dealer? TIA

I took my car in last Friday the day after for announced the free software update. You do not need to wait for a letter from Ford (if your vehicle was manufactured after Oct '09 you have the new software already). I for one had considerable brake noise when braking at low speeds just before coming to a stop. This happed frequently such as when stopping just before pulling out of a parking lot. I haven't heard the squeal since the update. Also for my Fusion the brake feels much different to me than before. I need to use less brake pressure than I use to. My Fusion was manufactured last April.

  3. Spoke with the long time Service Writer at my local dealer, and mentioned this problem to him. His answer was "This is the first I've heard of this". :finger: How many times has anyone taken their car in with a problem, and had the Service Department tell them the same thing? Another thing they love to say is "Sorry Mr. Xxxxxx, but we have not been able to duplicate the problem".

How many times have Toyota Dealers (gas pedals and Prius brakes) and Ford Dealers (FFH brakes) heard that? :censored:

Just because they "have not been able to duplicate the problem" does not make it any safer.

Ford just announced this yesterday afternoon so it's not too surprising they weren't familiar with it. They told me the fix on my Fusion was smooth and didn't take long at all. The instrument cluster reset along with long term fuel economy which I was expecting to happen. Kudos to Ford for their excellent handling of this issue. As noted in the Consumer Reports article this is campaign 10B13.

  4. I have put on about 19000 miles on my FFH and I have not experienced any sensation of loss of braking in this time. I have taken cross country trips and done a bunch of local driving.

If anything I think the regenerative braking adds to the braking capability and I am confident that that car will stop even before the point where I would anticipate another car to stop.

I think I will skip this software update - as I believe "if ain't broke dont fix it".

For those who have experienced this, I applaud Ford to offer a solution.

    Cheers!

I called my dealer this morning and they weren't aware of the issue right away but called me back after about 10 minutes and said the software update is available. My car is in the shop today for this fix. Just because you haven't experienced this issue in the past is no guarantee that you won't at some time in the future. Many of these glitches are not reproducible during a test drive and only occur when the stars align. Note that Consumer Reports strongly recommends getting this fix.

  5. I've found it hard to find much info on the newer vehicles and the "star" rating doesnt say that much.

One of the places I've looked (I'll look for some others later I don't remember where the others were) is the IIHS insurance losses statistics. The latest data it includes is for the 2006-2008 fusions.

    http://www.iihs.org/research/hldi/composit...-2008&cls=2

Medical payments are very high for those fusions at 1.34 X the "average".

Compare to toyota camry hybrid at .82, or the Prius at .79 (lowest in midsize and lowest in small), or to pickups/suvs/minivans(incl crossovers like outback) which some show around 1/3 for not only medical payments but also for other loss categories.

Of course, this data only shows up to 2006-2008 model years not the 2010 fusion "refresh" or the newer of the other vehicles as there arent statistics yet for the new ones. And of course there are other factors not shown there such as avg number of passengers carried per vehicle, which would be higher I'd suspect for fusion/cars than pickups for example (resulting in higher medical payments vs pickups), but probably not more passengers per car than per SUV. Anyways, point there is it shows much better for prius/camry than the 2006-2008 fusions in all loss categories, as well as compared to vehicles I was looking at such as the subaru outback.

The europe NCAP crash test ratings are more "detailed" than the "star" ratings, but they only show 2003/2004 models, and of course most of the vehicles are different between US models and europe models.

There's few vehicles with worse insurance ratings from the IIHS site I linked than the 2006-2008 Fusions.

The Ford operation manual warns against keeping hard objects in the cupholder since they can cause bodily injury in a collision. It makes sense wanting your cell phone to have the best chance of surving a crash in which the 911 assist feature is activated. The 2010 Fusion is a top safety pick and comparing it to crash data that includes 2009 or earlier Fusions is like comparing apples and oranges due to the redesign. The 2006 Fusion in particular performed poorly in the side impact crash test (without airbags).

  6. Any one has issues with their RPA, the beeping you hear when your backing up?

We have a parking space with nothing but our apartment building behind us (about 400 ft away) Some times the instant we back up the RPA sounds a sold beep telling us something is behind us (when there isn't) other times in the same spot it works fine and does the beeps only when we get close to the building.

The Sold (really annoying) beep also happens randomly when we back up out of other places and nothing is behind us.

Think their might be a sensor malfunction.

Yes, I've had this problem as well. The backup sensor has twice gotten "stuck"in the solid beep mode even in a totally empty parking lot. The first time it went away on its own after a couple days. The second time it came back a few weeks later and I lightly tapped the back bumper and it went away. Hopefully that's the end of it! It is very annoying.

  7. I installed it last night, I have a 502a FFH, and since they're not allowing those of us w/the nav system to access the new features mentioned, I am wondering if there's anything in this update for us?

    Anyone seen any new features?

Not sure what the improvements are for nav owners but syncmyride.com states "Traffic, Directions & Information is not available on Navigation System radios or outside the United States however, this update includes additional improvements which all customers can benefit from."

  8. Does any one that ordered the last couple of days in March, have a vin number or schedule date yet? I'm actually interested in anyone's date ordered, date schedued, and date delivered. Trying to compare and get some idea what to expect.

    Thanks

Ordered March 16 here and have a scheduled build week of April 20. When I called my dealer for the status he was surprised and said this is the fastest he's seen any order go through.

Update (5/1): Build date was April 22 and dealer now has an ETA of the week of May 24th.

  9. Ice Blue/Lt. Stone leather, 501A. The blue exterior color was on my short list when I showed up for the test drive, but I wasn't too sure about the light stone leather until I was able to see it. But it's very subtle, high-end - nicer than in the photos. And I think the lighter leather will be practical for our warm Florida summers.

Ice Blue w/ Light Stone Leather 502A Package. Desert dweller here who doesn't like black leather in the summer. Ouch!
