  1. So much contradicting statements on the internet. Some say the ecoboost cranks are bolt in. Others say they arent even close. Thought about going with a ranger crank as they are heavier duty than factory fusion cranks. Also lighter weight since they do not have a balance shaft.
  2. Well, been searching high and low for a while about the potential in these motors and so far all I've read is that its a pointless project to turbo these engines. But I'd love to hear some real input on what is the real issue with turboing them, and where their real weaknesses are? Being an open deck block I'm sure that's one of the big setbacks, but if i remember right the ecoboost mustangs/subaru wrx's are open deck as well and make ok numbers when done right. I have my 07 down to a bare block right now, originally intended on a factory rebuild, but hey why not give the performance route a look right? I've found a company that makes forged pistons/rods for this engine, but a crankshaft is a hard miss so far. Does anyone know if the factory crank is heat treated or forged? More importantly, Does anyone know if the crank from a 2.3 ecoboost motor will fit as a substitute? I have a couple photos of the two cranks and they look similar, both have the gear for the balance shaft, but didn't know if anyone had specs on them. 166300_1__89149.1561180014.webp
  3. Hey all, happy to be here on yet another forum page. Hoping to get a good thread going here in a bit. I've had my 07 fusion for 5 years now, bought it with 89K miles, has 190k miles on the clock ow. Original untouched engine/trans until last weekend. Currently have the motor down to a bare block with the intentions to do a factory rebuild but you know those gears start turning and the question comes about, "what can she handle?" So that's why I'm hear, hoping to see what can become of these somewhat snappy (i think for a 13 year old na sedan) 2.3 gas sippers. If anyone knows of a good topic on here to explore please share the link. Looking forward to hearing everyone's opinions and ideas for this project. Little background on myself. Started my journey as a music school dropout, became a detailer for a chrysler dealership in 2013, moved up to express lube about 8 months later. After a year of lube tech work I went to work for chevy as a tech apprentice, pounded out training and had my tech label within six months. worked for them for around 3 years (did a lot of medium duty when gm brought it back). Had enough of that and went back to Chrysler as a tech up until recently when I moved into the parts department and took all my tools home. I've been working out of my garage since. The only real engine work I've done is in dirt bikes/wheelers. I have never had a vehicle motor stripped down this far, I do not have any special tools (do have air though thank god). I don't have a lift, I pulled this monster with a comealong strapped to a 4x4 in the rafters. I have a service manual on its way. Either way, this will be a fun project.
