Hello everyone. So the last time I took my fusion for it usual maintenance it had a whining sound. The service advisor checked it out and thought it might be a transmission problem because the sound goes away and makes noise different noises when you shift. I had to go to another dealer since this particular one was backed up. The current dealer has diagnose the transmission and says it needs to be replaced. They are quoting $6600 and are not optimistic about getting a transmission anytime soon due to it being back ordered. The car has 218,000 miles and is frequently used for my commute to work and for Uber. at the risk of taking some serious flack, I still owe on the car. I know for a fact this will not happen again in the future where I will be upside down on the car ever again. Regardless of this fact do you folks think it’s worth putting a used transmission into this car and trying to squeeze out at least another 70,000 miles? Both dealerships have said that the car is in otherwise great condition and the transmission is the only area of concern. My friend has a mechanic that has performed a direct transmission swap on a car very similar to this one. He said all he had to do was replace transmission and replace the oil and that was it. When I asked the dealer about the process they said the programming of the transmission is also needed and some type of computer stuff . Is this true? Last question I promise, what happens when the hybrid battery goes out? Can the car still operate without it? I guess those are two questions.
