  6. I talked to a Ford engineer when I was invited to a Ford marketing event, they have not heard of that before. I guess it takes a few of us to report to dealers before they start investigating. I will mention to the dealer next time I get a chance.

  9. Yes I'm referring to the traffic info on the Nav (would like to subscribe to both radio and Nav traffic though). The traffic info in LA/OC area is fairly dependable. I don't use the auto-routing feature. I just depend on traffic info so I can decide to make my own detours (mostly on my drive home to help navigate through LA rush hour congestion). I'm guessing Sirius uses the same sources (Cal Trans?) as google maps etc. I can get that on my phone, but more convenient on the screen. As far as radio, I only listen to a couple of channels. If I get tired of FM, I switch to MP3's. I suppose I would use it more if I had a long term subscription but will not pay premium price for it - I'll stick with KROQ or MP3's.
  10. Hi all, Just wondering if any of you have found a good price for Sirius subscription. My complimentary 6-month just expired a couple of weeks ago. I generally use the Sirius service only for traffic info and maybe 1-2 channels occasionally so I haven't researched for any great deals they may offer. I did get a few calls but declined based on price. I then received a short term offer (3 months for the price of 1 - $12.95). Just looking to see if anyone has had luck in getting a better longer term VALUE pricing - anything from 1 year to lifetime. Thanks!
  11. Depends how hot it is outside (therefore how much A/C demanded). I've driven home on 95-100 degree days (18 mile commute) and lost estimated 3-4 MPG.
  12. Like you, I plan for long term ownership (still have my 96 Toyota 4Runner - 187k miles), never bought a Ford and love this vehicle. I think the FFH is a very well engineered vehicle and I can feel it. Bumper to bumper is 3/36, powertrain is 5/60, hybrid unique components are either 8/100 or 10/150, depending on which state you reside. Toyota has similar warranty. If you're worried about first year model (plus the electronic gizmos that it has - new and tested), you can purchase Extended Service Plan (not to be confused with Maintenance Plan) from online dealers like buy-ford-warranty.com. Make sure you know the lowest price so that you can decline during your purchase if you get a higher price. Of course if you purchase separately, you can't fold it into the loan. Good luck!
  13. I think the "long term average" is a rolling last 500 miles average fuel consumption. You can either reset it to start from scratch or keep driving normally and it should improve over the initial 20's you're seeing in your test drive. I don't know for sure, but the calibration explanation is probably NOT true; I would guess all calibrations are done at the factory to maintain quality and consistency. As far as AC use, yes it does affect MPG - how much depends on how heavy your setting is; after all overall energy utilized have to be restored/supplied one way or another by the ICE. You can see the Accessory Power usage increase in Empower mode and as you increase you AC use. AC (at max setting/max fan) seem to be the highest power draw out of all accessories.

  15. Yes idiot lights have a purpose - one of them is to give the operator some reassurance of normalcy (more or less). I'm guessing rfruth started this thread out of some (small) concern. From my experience, most vehicles I've been in (hybrid or not), the temperature gauge is somewhere safely in the middle after warm-up. If Ford did not want any resolution on this gauge, it should limit it to only be H, C and Normal, but I think this would be a mistake. If mine were to behave this way, I would definitely have it looked at. I don't care if Ford thinks I'm an idiot as I'm just trying to protect my $30k+ vehicle.
  16. No surprising behavior from a Hummer driver. Here in the greater LA Metro area, I'm always looking to make sure there are no irate drivers near me because of the high probability of getting shot . Having said that, I do see many more impatient drivers (yes both men and women) making aggressive moves when I'm in my FFH as opposed to my 4Runner truck.
  17. Yours is either running hot or the sensor is bad. Mine is never that high - solidly in the middle of C and H after warm-up. Better get it checked out just to be safe!
  18. One thing that you can do (which I won't do) is leave your key in the car - out of sight - and use the combination key to open the door.
  19. Yes I agree with both points above. I have always thought a 20-mile graph is more applicable than a 20-minute graph. I just thought this was something unordinary - first time I've been able to do something close to perfect in 5000+ miles. As I mentioned, my overall MPG was around 45 (long term average ~40) for the whole trip back which is my indirect way of saying that on average, it didn't make much of a difference - but was still fun to see
  20. Thanks to the infamous L.A. traffic congestion, the freeway moved quite a bit slow in my 18-mile drive...part of it was 20MPH or slower. As a result, I almost got a near perfect 20-min stretch.   22. Had this happen once on a clear day and during the middle of a 40 mile freeway trip. When I arrived at my destination I turned off the vehicle and it was gone when I restarted. I had a chance to ask a Ford engineer on this and he said that a possible cause could be radio frequency interference. Maybe that Best Buy has a transmitter that is causing your issues - depending on the frequency, could be an FCC violation.
  23. Shouldn't these authorized dealer's maintenance plans transferrable when you sell the vehicle? In that case there should be value added to the price of the vehicle. Anyway, I was researching this a little and when I purchased my ESP from http://www.buy-ford-warranty.com/ I asked them how much a 6/100k maintenance is...answer is $1000. If it's worth only $700 like Grey says, it is not worth it then.

(I'd guess this is true for most, if not all, newer Fords) If you have an eager passenger pulling on the external door handle and you unlock the car with the remote at the same time, the door waits for that handle to be released and allows the second handle pull to open the door. You don't have to hit the remote a second time. Maybe I've been living under a rock and Fords have had this capability for years, but I've been in many other brand vehicles as a passenger that does not do this. Subtle but a nice improvement, I think.
