  1. Just did a head swap on a 2010 ford fusion 2.5L. Got the TDC timing pin tool and camshaft timing tool (flat metal bar that locks the cams horizontally). Head is in, motor is at TDC on #1, cams are in with the cam timing tool and cam retaining caps are torqued to spec. Now were putting the cam sprocket and cam vct phaser on the end of the cams. According to a post on this forum and the only video i could find on Youtube, it looks like there is a washer sandwiched between the end of the cam the phaser. The service manual i have doesn't mention this. It only mentions the “diamond” washer behind the crank pulley which we didn't see when we pulled off the crank pulley. I cant really find any documentation about these washers for the cam gears except for a thread i found on this forum. Here is the link to the thread talking about the washers behind the cam gears: https://www.fordfusionforum.com/topic/9842-engine-noise-timing-chain-replacement/?tab=comments#comment-67150 here is the quote: ”And what usually happens with the 2.3L / 2.5L is the exhaustcam starves and the thrust bearing cap gets scored really bad, then when you turn off the engine the extra resistance causes the cam to turn on the gear (since the gears are NOT keyed to the camshafts - they use a diamond coated washer to get them to 'stick'), and then the engine is no longer timed.“ So should there be a “diamond” washer behind the exhaust cam sprocket gear, behind the intake cam phaser gear and behind the crank pulley gear? Maybe someone already had this motor apart and didnt put them back in? Thank you for you help in advance and taking the tome to read this.
