Well, I have more to the original story. Back in Oct 2020, my A/C clutch bolt went missing and a mechanic replace it, saving me big dollars for a new compressor. Update, nearly a year later, the exact thing happened again when I was again on vacation and on the road. I inspected the clutch and saw it extended away from the compressor ready to fall off. I took a stick and pushed it back in place and with the A/C in the ON position, it worked again. Apparently the bolt was missing again and the clutch was working its way off the drive spline when I had entered cooler northern climates on vacation and had turned the A/C off. Once I got home, I replaced the bolt again (M6 1.0 thread pitch 20 mm length) this time with LocTite. We'll see how this last. Does the clutch remain locked in place to the compressor magnetically when energized ON? That's the only way I can see the A/C working without a bolt in place.
