  1. There is a lot of info about PTU 's or PTO's and the "propane smell" or natural gas smell. Mine has no leaks and I replaced most of the fluid. Suctioned out 13 oz and put 14 in to fill it to the fill hole. I have found videos on line but mostly about the other ford AWD that have a similar set up. Other forums have posts as well. The best info I have found on this came from a SHO forum. Below is a synopsis and here is the link: https://ford.oemdtc.com/880/propane-or-natural-gas-odor-during-idle-or-low-speed-driving-2007-2015-ford-lincoln Propane, Or Natural Gas Odor During Idle Or Low Speed Driving – 2007-2015 Ford & Lincoln oemdtc April 5, 2016 2007-2015 Various Vehicles Equipped With All Wheel Drive – Propane, Or Natural Gas Odor During Idle Or Low Speed Driving 2013-2015 MKZ vehicles equipped with a 3.7L, 2007-2014 Edge, 2007-2015 MKX, 2011-2015 Explorer, 2009-2015 Flex, 2010-2015 MKT, 2008-2015 Taurus, 2008-2009 Taurus X, 2009-2015 MKS, 2007-2012 Fusion/MKZ, and 2007-2011 Milan vehicles equipped with a PTU can exhibit a propane, or natural gas odor from the HVAC system after driving the vehicle for 20-45 minutes. This odor, if present, is most noticeable while idling or during low speed driving. Inspect the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) for fluid leaks and repair any leaks. If odor is still present after the leak repair and cleaning, replace the PTU and vent hose, if equipped. For vehicles with no leaks and odor present, replace the PTU along with the PTU vent hose, if equipped.
  2. Certainly does not follow the KIS principle. I will play with it some more.
  3. How long does your recirculation button stay engaged? My car has the Automatic Temperature control system ATC and looks like the picture below. No. 4 is the recirculation control and when I turn it on it will be off by the time I come to the next traffic light. From the manual, which someone kindly sent me the link to I have copied the description. The interesting thing is I am using it to get rid of that annoying rotten egg / sulfur / propane smell this car creates. The smell can't be from the Cats as the exhaust smells normal. I don't have any oil leaks that could burn on the exhaust so I have not found the answer yet. "4. Recirculation control: Press to activate/deactivate air recirculation in cabin. Recirculated air may reduce the amount of time to cool down the interior of the vehicle and may also help reduce undesired odors from reaching the interior of the vehicle. Recirculation can be engaged manually in any other airflow selection except (defrost). Recirculation may turn off automatically in all airflow selections except MAX A/C." The car also has a manual mode shown as button 10, which seems to be the two buttons 4 & 5 together. I have yet to try this. Any input is appreciated.
  4. Vibration is an issue I have had but it is a faint feeling so things can't be that bad yet. I do have a smell that is generated very quickly, like inside of 2 miles. I have read about this and seen videos that say the heat from the Cat and the lack of cooling cause the unit to degrade and fail. I changed the oil in it (used a laboratory suction container and a shop vac.) and got out 13.5oz refilled the unit with new and put in 15 so it had to have been a bit down. The oil that came out was black but not terrible , didn't smell that bad, and the magnetic plug was coated but it was only about a ¼" thick. Now that my unit, 2008 with 75,000mi, is old and generating the "propane" smell I will be replacing it all together. My thinking is this. If I can get a "propane" smell it means the oil is getting darn hot and in my case very fast (inside of 2mi from a cold start.) If it is getting this hot that fast then I think the bearings are going and generating a lot of heat. A bad bearing will get very hot very fast. How long it will last is dependant on how far I go each day. I don't drive far to work, like 5 mi or less. I do not have any leaks.
  5. Hi I just joined and have an 08 SEL AWD that was a theft recovery. For some reason they toss the manual when the Insurance co. sells the car and I would like to have one. Could someone reply with a link so I can download one? Thanks
  6. I hope to find a good forum here. So far the others I have joined do not seem to have much feedback. I have an 08 Fusion SEL AWD with 125000km on it. It is new to me and is my winter car. I have a 328i vert as the summer one.
