  1. Just got back from the dealer and they did the inspection on the airbag, I think they just need to get the serial number off the airbag before they can order the replacement. I asked about the rental and they pushed back a little but then I told him to keep reading the document that Dwebs262 provided. NOT the same recall document that us owners received. Anyway, I pretty much insisted on a rental and I drove out of there with an Edge. Advisor said it could take a week or more to get the replacement part in. I figured if they are paying $44/day for my rental they will be more motivated to prioritize my repair. Otherwise, they could take their time and I'm at the bottom of the list. I did have to sign a form that says I would not drive the car but for now I've left it at the dealer.
  2. Ford tried to weasel out of this recall by filing an appeal with the NHTSA. NHTSA denied it and Ford must now proceed with the recall repairs. I'm taking mine in on Monday for an "inspection". They said they need to do this before they order the parts. At this point I'm not comfortable driving this vehicle, my teenager is the primary driver. If the parts are available and the repair can be completed in a week or so, I can be patient. But anything longer and I'm going to insist that Ford provide a rental. @Dwebs262 - Thanks for that document. Tells us all we need to know.
  3. Thanks @MikeL, that's useful information. Have you noticed any changes to your MPG since the rebalancing? Are you able to sustain a speed of 40mph in EV mode?
  4. Add me to the list of owners here with the same issue. My local dealer in SJC said this was a "normal characteristic of vehicle". I started this thread on another forum back in December 2018, http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/12638-wont-run-in-ev-mode-ice-kicks-in-immediately/
  5. Is anybody from Ford still around on this forum? I have been patiently waiting for a Sync update for over a year. If anyone has v4.6 for the Fusion, would you mind sharing it?
  6. Any fix for this? 2nd time I used the heater in 4 years and only drivers side blows heat. Wife in passenger seat was getting pissed off.
  7. How difficult was it to replace? I looked behind the glove box and see the actuator but it doesn't look like you can get to the mounting screws and wiring harness easily. Thanks!
  8. The whole motor and housing appear to be different so probably not an exact fit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-04-Jeep-Grand-Cherokee-Power-Seat-Track-motor-NEW-/290898856015?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43baec484f&vxp=mtr
  9. That looks very close but I'm not sure if the Fusion gear has the same chamfered teeth on the top. You would have to know the exact dimensions of each to see if it would even be worth trying.
  10. I'm dealing with this same problem right now. Ford does not sell the gear seperately. The cost for a whole new driver-side 8-way power seat track is $363.63. Even if we were able to find the replacement gear I don't know how you would get it off of the screw shaft. It does not appear to be keyed but it may have internal splines which are not visible. I'm just going to manually position the seat where I like and leave it there.
  11. Is the trunk too small for you? I leave my golf bag and 3 wheel cart in there and still have room for kid's soccer bags, folding chair...
  12. I'm 6'5", 230 lbs, Size 12 feet. No problems at all with the fit. Extending the steering column all the way out made a pretty big difference for me. My head is close to the roof, I can slide my fingers between and that's about all the space there is. If I'm wearing a hat or cap it will sometimes rub so I remove headwear when driving. I wish I didn't have a sunroof as I never use it and I'm sure it would afford me at least another 1" headroom. At first it seemed a little confining but I don't even think about it anymore. Still loving this car after almost 2 years.
  13. My commute sounds similar to yours, about 7 miles each way. 50/50 surface streets/freeway (I never drive over 65 mph). Going to work is a little bit uphill and coming home is down. At 8,000 miles on the odometer my average MPG is 35.4. I try pretty hard to maximize fuel economy and probably piss off alot of people. Longer trips definitely increase MPG when the motors are warm. The key is to just keep moving, going with the flow. Stopping and starting kills your fuel economy. It's not uncommon to take a trip when you hit all the lights and go easy on the gas, the trip MPG will read 58 MPG or more. I guess I'm happy with 35 although I'd rather get the advertised 41. Still getting 2x the MPG that I got in my Explorer and the ride is much nicer, Mark
  14. I just keep a cheap 1 gig USB thumb drive plugged in to the console port. I copy podcasts, music and books from iTunes onto it periodically. When you get back in the car it always starts playing where it left off and it leaves your iPod free for other stuff. It would be too much of a hassle for me to have to connect my iPod every time I got in the car. The Bloetooth streaming from the phone works pretty good too but 90% of my listening is off the USB thumb drive. Mark
  15. I have a similar commute, about 2.3 miles each way with 10-12 stop signs/lights. My speed is never above 45 MPH in stop and go traffic. The first half mile is almost always on gas as the car gets to operating temperature. Then it goes in and out of EV mode for the rest of the trip. My average MPG over the first 3,500 miles is 34.7 right now. Sometimes the average for the trip is as low as 20 MPG and sometimes it is above 58 MPG so the short trips are not very accurate when you look at them individually. Where my average really improves is when I can take longer drives without a lot of stopping and starting and maintaining a consistent speed of about 45 MPH or longer freeway runs at 65 MPH. I also debated the return on investment given the higher price tag but with the $1,700 tax credit I received it was an easier decision. It's also nice to only fill up the tank every 6 weeks or so. I also considered that my commute may not always be 2.3 miles and it turns out that my office is moving this summer and my commute will be 7.1 miles so I will probably see some gains in fuel economy. Mark
  16. My MPG has also increased pretty significantly after the brake recall software update performed last week. I was getting about 33 MPG before and now I am over 37 MPG. I suspect it is due to the tech resetting the overall fuel economy history.
  17. That's strange, mine seems to get worse when it's warmer. It may actually be coming from someplace different. Today it sounded like it was coming from the rear speaker shelf.
  18. Anybody else hear a faint rattle coming from what sounds like inside the headliner? When the car is moving from 10~40 MPH and the radio is off I notice a light clicking rattle. If I lift my left hand behind by head and press up on the headliner a little bit it seems to go away as long as I hold my hand there. I have a moonroof and I'm not sure I can hear anything when the moonroof is open. Curious to see if anyone else has experienced this. This is in my 2010 Fusion Hybrid with about 2500 miles on it.

  20. Is there any way to bypass the "Powered by Sony" add the displays every time I start the car? Almost always, the first thing I do is throw it in reverse and back out of the garage/driveway/parking spot... By the time the camera actually comes on I am done reversing and ready to put it into drive to go forward. I don't have the patience to sit there and wait for the camera to come on before I start moving. Any suggestions?
  21. The tint shop I used discloses that it may not turn out perfect around the dot matrix. They did as good a job as they could. There were still some small air spaces between the dots, but not enough to worry about. The day after I got it done I pressed it with my fingers and a soft cloth to try and get it to adhere a little better. Not sure I made much improvement though. I can live with it, it's not real noticable unless you get up close and really inspect it. The tint shop has an option for $70 they will cut off the tint where the dots are and use that as a template for a piece of black vinyl tape that they stick on. He said it looks really good but I think it looks great as it is.
  22. So today I picked up my kid from soccer practice which added another mile to the trip. From the park to the house was 3.5 miles, pretty much flat. It was hot today so no AC but windows down and the engine was probably reasonably warm when I started the trip. Trip average was 45 MPG for 3.5 miles. I think I'm getting the hang of it. Basically my strategy is to anticipate when I will be able to sustain 35-45 MPH for a half mile or so. If I know I am going to hit a stretch where I don't need to stop I will accelerate, using ICE, to cruising speed then back of the throttle and cruise in EV mode. If I know I need to stop I will ride the brake pedal and try to regen the battery charge as much as possible. I forgot to mention 1 trip home from the office I averaged 78 MPG for 2.5 miles. The planets must have been in alignment that day, I got mostly green lights and probably started with a full battery charge although it must have been pretty discharged by the end of the trip. This is a great forum, thanks for all the feedback guys!
  23. Yeah, I do ride a bike about half the time but some days I need to pick up kids or run errands so the car comes in handy.
  24. Got my FFH about three weeks ago and have put on over 330 miles, almost all city. My overall MPG is hanging around 34. I did take 1 trip on the freeway about 30 miles and averaged 45 MPG for the trip so I was happy about that. Not sure why I'm not getting better in the city. My daily commute is 2.5 miles each way with about 10 stop signs/lights, no hills. I try to stay in EV mode and coast as much as possible. Anybody else experience mid-30s MPG in mostly city driving? Does it get better as the engine gets broken in? Also, I can't seem to stay in electric mode past 30-35 MPH. What's the secret to 47 MPH in EV mode?
  25. The dealer is required to disclose the scrap value. They keep the first $50, you get the rest on the spot. I traded in my 96 Explorer with 105k miles 2 weeks ago and they took $4,500 off the price plus another $200 scrap value. The actual scrap value must have been $250. They didn't hassle me at all on this. If your not getting the scrap value up front I suspect some type of fraud. I would take my business elsewhere.
