  1. Yep, about five years seems to be the magic number.
  2. Wow! 20" wheels on a Fusion. Pretty big departure from stock! I think that would definitely degrade your ride quality and with a 30 series tire, be careful of potholes; not much room for tire flex. Guess it is all about what you want concerning either looks or performance. I would stay with the 35 series as it gives you a little more compliance when encountering road irregularities and thus might save you a bent wheel. The Fusion has a lot of suspension travel and compliance built in and changing wheel sizes may bring other unknowns into the mix. Just say'in.
  3. You're saying that you have a 20" wheel on your Fusion? That's not stock. Please clarify.
  4. If the fuel cut-off safety switch was activated during the accident, the car will not start until the reset button is pushed. That's the first place I'd check.
  5. I may be mistaken, but I think that's the factory clamp and is not designed to take on and off on a regular basis. Go with an aviation style clamp to replace.
  6. I have a 2010, 6 speed, 2.5. I have the Continental DWS's on it. They've been on for almost two years now and are an outstanding tire. They are very good in wet and dry conditions, quiet, and have done well in the Md. snowy winters. They are getting close to the wear bars now and I will definitely be going with them again. For the money, they are the best all season tire on the market. I also have them on the wife's BMW 535I and they perform equally well. Buy them and you'll never regret it!! P.S.: Just an up-date. Bought the newer version of the old DWS tire, Continental DWS-06, which replaces the older DWS's. Tread pattern is a little different, but it performs just as well as my original DWS's. These tires are perfect for our cars.
  7. It amazes me when someone post's asking for help or guidance, it is provided, and they never respond as to whether it helped. I'm outta here.
  8. roehsler: There was a TSB (technical service bulletin) or maybe a re-call notice for the 2010 Fusion from Ford in reference to a no-start issue. It related to the battery cable being the problem and it would be replaced. I had the same issue you described and had the cable replaced by Ford and no more problems. It's been so long ago, it may have been a re-call, but Ford definitely had paperwork on it. Check this out. I'll bet that's your issue. If you've had that done, then I'm at a loss. I believe it was the positive side cable and it was done for free. They replaced the original cable with an up-dated one and I never had another issue. Numerous cars were effected by this problem.
  9. I too have a 2010 2.5 six speed manual. It has just over 50K on it and is going strong. One of the least troublesome cars I've ever owned. And yes, the six speed manuals are quite rare.
  10. I'm also on the fence about a new Fusion. Currently have a 2.5 Ltr., 6 speed manual, 2010 and really like the car. It has been bullet proof. Can't even find a manual 2013+ 1.6 Ecoboost to drive as they're like hens teeth. I would probably consider buying the new Fusion with the 6 speed 1.6 engine, but am unsure if it would be that much more responsive then my current 2.5 engine. Not being able to test drive a 1.6 manual keeps me from ordering a new one. Opinions from those who now have a 6 speed ecoboost would be very much appreciated.
  11. The OP is pissed because the car let him down. All my past Fords have been pretty bullet proof and my 45K, 2010 Fusion, 1-4 six speed, has been flawless. All cars have periodic issues; ask me about the wife's BMW 535I ! I empathize with his anger; however, the other posters are correct. If this is what causes you to move to another car manufacturer, you're in for a lot of future disappointments! Fords are pretty reliable and certainly as good as anything else on the market.
  12. I think I'm going to wait to pull the trigger on the off chance that Ford will come out with a performance four banger with a manual in the 14 or 15 MY. I'd be really pissed if I got a 13 and then later on, they come out with what I wanted in the first place! Ford is real good at doing that! I remember I waited for the 84 Mustang GT to come out with the new roller 205 HP 302. I finally had to get the 175 HP 302 and damned if they didn't come out with everything I wanted in the 85 GT. Ordered one immediately and took a bath on the 84...Once bitten! Are there any juicy rumors out about a manual available in a performance version. Would love to hear them.
  13. I'm thinking it will probably be a wash between the power comparison of the two. The 13 will most likely give me marginally better gas mileage. I guess it boils down to whether I think moving up to the 13 will be that signifigant a difference and worth the price. I really enjoy the way my current ride handles and have had no negative issues with it since new. Hard to beat that combination. I'm just disappointed that Ford has not made the manual more prevelant throughout the Fusion engine line. They obviously have a tried and true 6 speed manual in the current 1.6 engine and my current 2.5.
  14. I have a 2010 2.5 ltr. 6 speed. As I can't seem to find a 2013 1.6 six speed to test drive, can anyone give an opinion as to this question: Is the 1.6 quicker and more responsive than the 2.5 that I currently have? I really like the new body style etc. of the new Fusion; however, if the 1.6 is not noticeably quicker than the 2.5, its not worth it to get the 2013. Any opinions would be helpful.
  15. I have a 2010 6 speed. Really like the car. As indicated, trying to find a 2013 manual to test drive is like looking for hen's teeth. How do you 2013 owners compare your 1.6 ecoboost with the 2.5 NA that I currently drive? I'm on the fence about getting a new 13. If the 1.6 is not markedly faster then the 2.5, then I'm not going to get a 2013. I'm aware that the 1.6 is all that is available in the manual. Too bad. So....what do you 6 speeders think?
  16. This seems to be a common problem with the family of I-4 automatics. A friend of mine had a 2010 Escape with the same issue as described. Several trips back to the dealer did not eliminate the problem. My 2010 Fusion with the six speed manual idles so quietly that I sometimes have to look at the tac to make sure it didn't stall, so I think you all are on the right track with engine mounts or some other anomoly other than the engine itself. Good luck in your quest!
  17. I've got the six speed manual, so it doesn't apply to me, but my 1996 Taurus SHO had the exact same recall 15 years ago! (faulty parking pawl). You'd think they would have gotten these automatics sorted out by now. Probably human error. Not a big issue to get corrected. Always used my parking-brake as an added back-up anyway.
  18. Condensation from your A/C overflow should be water only, with no color tint or smell to it. You most likely have a coolant leak coming from somewhere. I'm assuming your coolant color is yellow and if so, you need to get it back to the dealer and locate the leak through a pressure test or other alternate method they choose.
  19. I have a question for either Ford Technicians, Ford parts personnel, or knowledgeable readers. I have a 2010 SE Fusion and have just noticed that the 2011 Fusions now have the built in blind spot mirror in their outside mirrors, as standard equipment, like my 2011 GT500. Can I replace the 2010 mirrors with the up-graded 2011 outside mirrors? They appear to be the same size/configuration and am wondering if I can snap out the 2010 mirror and replace it with the 2011 mirror without having to replace the whole unit. (expensive). Thanks in advance for any guidence. I love the new blind-spot feature on the Shelby and sure would like to incorporate that type mirror onto the 2010 Fusion.
  20. You are correct. Sorry for the misprint; early Alzheimers. The car was built 06/2009. Now has 15K and no waterfall noises, etc. Been a bullet-proof car so far.
  21. I suspect it may be the fuel pump re-set button that is in all modern Fords. If you have a substantial crash, the fuel pump closes down to prevent fuel spill.. read fire. It can be depressed and fuel pump will start again as well as the car. Check your manual to be sure.
  22. I have a 2010 2.5 4 cylinder with 6 speed manual. It has 8K on it. I believe it was built in 06/2010. It has no described "water fall" symptoms and other than the TSB corrected intermittent starting problem, it has been flawless.
  23. Thanks for the input. I've not had this trouble with other cars. I followed the instructions w/i the owner's manual for bulb replacement. I just didn't want to remove the front bumper as it looked like a pain to accomplish. And as a side note, when I ordered the 2011 Shelby GT500, I noticed that HID's are now standard equipment! Thank goodness! No need to upgrade those babies! By the way, what is the procedure for front bumper removal and can you do it w/o help? When the weather cooperates, maybe I'll give it a try, if its not too difficult. Thanks again.
