  1. Borland, thanks for the photos I was wondering how hard it was to get to the petcock now I know. I will probably pull a hose, Thanks again for your help and the photos. inkie
  2. Borland, Its getting too complicated, I think I 'll sell the car.
  3. Borland, That's one of the reasons why I posted this topic on this forum. I am a retired chemist and have some experience with incompatible materials. I will probably bite the bullit and splurge for the 30 to 36 bucks a gallon. I was hoping I'd get some feedback from owners that used other coolants with the VC 10A inkie.
  4. drolds 1, Thank you, I will look into the Asian Coolant, I should have used the WSS-M97B55-A when I was doing the research. inkie
  5. Hi All, Its 5 years and I want to change the antifreeze. Ford recommends Motorcraft Specialty Green Engine Coolant VC10-A. The dealer wants 36.00 a gallon, Its a bit pricey for 9.3 qts. The 36.00 a gallon is for customers otherwise its 44.00 a gallon. Could any one recommend a replacement for this coolant? Or what you have done. I have been trying to find a alternate to no avail. The only thing I learned is the industry has more coolant types than Obama has Czars. Thanks

    frost plug

    What is a frost plug ? Sorry just looked it up, here in pa. we call it a core plug. If its not rusty and leaking I would not touch it. If its just to drain the coolant take a hose off you will save yourself grief.
  7. Although my fusion does not have this problem I have been following this thread with interest. This may be of interest to all of you. When I was employed my company leased many Ford Taurus'es and the place that serviced them always added "Redline Water Wetter" to the cars. We had numerous problems with the cars but never had any radiator, overheating or cooling problems. This product may have some merit if flow and surface tension is one of the causes of "sloshing" Hopes this helps. I also have a question for some of you, There is much talk about the 'bleed valve" I looked at it briefly and can't figure out how it works. Does the top screw or pull off to reveal a valve? or does it turn to unscrew to let the air and water flow? Thanks

    Coolant leak

    Thank you xmech, that is good information that could save us some grief.
  9. I can verify that the 2010's have a cabin air filter. I have an SE and although I purchased the car in April I had to change it. My wife was complaining and sneezing everytime she got into the passenger seat so I dropped the glovebox and changed it, The filter was black with an oily substance on it. Its very easy to change, the door has flaps on each end that you release and you have to juggle and pull the filter out from the left side. Also,the glovebox has a wire pulley that you have to disengage to drop the glove box. Someone with small hands can probably reach in and remove the doors without dropping the glovebox all the way.
  10. Hi Atsottles, You failed to mention the specifics about the engine and transmission, I am curious because I have a 2010,2.5, Auto. I hope the service dept will be able to diagnose your problem. It concerns me greatly because about 15 years ago I had a company car which was a Taurus and 3 or 4 times a month while idleing at a light the car would increase the rpms and try to surge ahead . I had to throw it into neutral and shut the ignition. Ford could never diagnose the problem so I turned the car in and got a Buick. I swore I would never get another Ford but my wife liked the Fusion so I bought one. I and others, I am sure, would appreciate if you would keep us posted. Hopefully Ford has better knowledge now than they had 15 yrs ago.Good Luck! { inkie}
  11. Besides checking your dipstick {you may have some oil left over}. You can also take some of the drained oil and some of the 5W30 you intend to use. Put a large glob of both on some uncoated paper and draw them down with a putty knife. You can see if the color and penetration is the same or dfferent.. I am pretty sure your transmission oil should be darker and heavier in body. If its the transmission, check the manual for the type and quantity of oil needed and read your car manual and it will show you how to fill it through another bolt which should be higher.
  12. akirby, Thank you for the quick reply to my query. Inkie
  13. I have owned my Fusion for 5 months and I am ready to change the oil. I notice the drain plug does not contain a washer. I am used to Hondas that use crush washers and before I owned the Hondas I remember all my American cars had washers on the drain plugs. I notice in all the posts no one mentions the use of washers for the drain plug. So is it safe to assume the Fusion drain plug is washer free? Thanx
  14. I have used it on a Honda Accord and to me it was just like any other wax. I have been using Zymol which gives me better durability. If your interested in trying something thats less expensive than reflections try Maquiors Carnauba wax spray it gives a great lustre.
