  1. So I wanted to add a follow-up data point on this. We just got the car back from its 100,000 mi checkup/service and Ford ran the diagnostic for the wrench light and I guess they found the problem, or the computer flagged it...whatever. I think they charged me $130 to run the diagnostic but they did the TSB for free. (I'm currently overseas on business so my wife is handling this, that's why I'm uncertain of the exact cost). I'll update this thread if there are any more problems, but hopefully this will solve the wrench light. As a side note, I have had 5+ wrench lights over the past few really hot months here in Vegas.
  2. Has this been mentioned? Sorry, I haven't read all the old posts. My 2010 FFH came with a wallet "credit card" thing that has the factory set, unchangeable door code. Anyone else have that?
  3. I've heard this works and is the best method for us as well. To reiterate, normal accel in gas mode, then coast/cruise in EV mode. Works great in city traffic.
  4. My FFH low voltage batt lasted about 4 years, even in the Vegas heat. Heat is the biggest killer of batteries. Removal of the battery required some kind of tool that I didn't have, so I had to limp the car to the dealer. Thx Ford.
  5. They wanted to charge me and estimated $1k before the work began. According to them "to troubleshoot and rule out the bearings." We told them NO WAY we're they going to replace parts and charge us just to isolate the problem. If the bearings were bad, we would pay for them, but if they were fine and the trans was truely at fault, then the bearing replacement would be on them. They found 2 bad bearings (right wheel and a center axle bearing?) and they were able to work with us on parts and labor. I think it ended up being $800 out the door...which is par I suppose for 2 bearings and labor based on my research. It's been 2 weeks now, and she is running great and quiet too!
  6. I think it's the "read the manual" light. Just kidding :-)
  7. It appears to be the front wheel bearings. They argued with the Ford tech guy and in the end it was just bearings. I drove the car around today and it seems just fine...and no more front end noise. Guess the tech guy was correct, and maybe my dealership learned a thing or two about diagnosing problems. I'll keep a close ear on it, but so far, she seems quiet and solid again.
  8. This is unreal. Now the dealer is saying the Ford "expert"came out to have a look before pulling the trans and engine and he thinks it COULD be bearing related! They are going to check (and replace if necessary) the wheel bearings! If that doesn't solve it, then they will pull the engine and trans. Un-real. I think it's a bad case of mis-diagnosis by the local shop. I'll keep you posted.
  9. correct. I misspoke. It is 8/100,000. and a second call to Ford today reassured us that we will be fully covered for the full engine and tranny pull and replacement of parts.
  10. UPDATE: Well I am shocked. The dealer just called and my bearings are okay, no issues. It turns out that my differential is bad! I have no clue how that can be, but that is what they are telling me. Luckily the FFH has a 6yr/100,000mi powertrain warranty and the service guy said I am covered. Whew! He said this it pretty rare for the FFH and "thinks" its related to where the electric motor inputs power to the drivetrain. Apparently they have to pull the entire motor and transmission and will be swapping in a new transmission and differential. More to follow.
  11. Just dropped her off at the dealer. I'll post soon with what they find, a course of action and the cost.
  12. What kind of noises did it make? Mine is hard to describe, but is sort of a whirring that changes directly with speed.
  13. 84k miles on a 2010 FFH, and I have been noticing some "wheel hum." It changes with speed and seems to be more noticeable when slower. I had the tires changed as they were all original and I thought that the hum was maybe from the old and worn tires, but it still seems to have a hum. Wondering if anyone else has had bearings replaced, or found the cause...and what was the cost?
  14. Sky, Lolder has been nothing but helpful to you. He has offered a few suggestions that have actually worked for maybe hundreds of owners if not more. You shot him down and carried a defiant tone, while asking cryptic questions. You also realize he doesn't owe you anything. Do you? It's fair to say that anyone can answer anything on here, or say anything they think might help, regardless of it actually will. Lolder has 1000 posts here, most of them helpful to others and the community...you have 5. Have a little respect.
  15. Vonore, What caused you to want to change the plugs initially? Is there a recommended service interval? I'm also curious as to how the car performed or if your gas mileage improved with new plugs. Side note: I just put fresh tires on my FFH. 82,000miles (mostly hwy) on the originals!
  16. Replace my LV batt for the first time owning the car. It lasted about 4.5 years. What really irked me was that I couldn't remove the LV battery and just swap it at Autozone. Had to take the whole car to the dealer and leave it on a Sunday because the little stupid tool required by Ford to remove the positive leads. Anyone else have this problem?
  17. Checking in, it's been a long time. I have been recently changing my FFH oil on ramps (be sure to chock the rear tires!!!!) and it seems to work well. Good drainage. Later!
  18. My 2010 FFH recently started the yellow wrench light issue as well. 80k miles on the car and very hot driving here in Vegas. It came on again today on a long drive to SoCal (95 degrees). No power loss, no smell, no issues...except I have noticed that my electric motor/electrics coolant reservoir has been low lately. I stopped on my drive today, topped off the coolant level to the fill hot marks and continued on my way. Drove another 1.5 hours in the heat with no issues. I think it's a computer re-flash issue, however, check you coolant levels folks. Mine was low and I believe that could be part of the issue. I'll report back any subsequent issues/finds.
  19. What do you guys do when/if you take your Hybrid to a car wash where 'they' drive it to the wash tunnel, drying area, etc, etc? Forgoing any coments about car washes in general, handwashing, touchless, etc etc. I usually handwash in my driveway, but every so often I go to the nearby carwash. My local wash that I go to sometimes, is down hill from me, so when I get there and pull in, the car us usually in EV mode as I get out. I have found that the 16 yr old who places my order for a wash then drives the car off, usually gets very confused about hybrid Ops. I usually leave it 'running' and just tell them its a hybrid and that it's 'running.' One time I turned it off and got out, and the teenager who got in must have sat there for 3 minutes trying to start the car before I came back and told him it was running. What do you guys do. Is it better to let them try to start it (14 times), or leave it running and have them try to start it anyway...or some combo of all the above? Thanks. Buster PS I always take the antenna off too.
  20. Sorry. I was referring to the "auto-down" as yes, there is no "auto-up." I'll have to go check my manual too. Thanks!
  21. I tried this on my 2010 and it didn't work. I'm guessing that 2010s don't have this feature?
  22. Yeah, I was wondering that a while back. My 2010 doesn't have the blue road...it's just 'chrome' color or silver...or whatever.
  23. Yes, and at very low speeds only. Mine is noticable but not loud, and it only does it every so often or after not driving the car for a while. I think it is okay as long as it's not REALLY loud...but that is subjective and can be different for different people.
