  1. Could the wetness be antifreeze? Blot up the water with a white paper towel/white Kleenex, etc. and see what color it is. If it is a bit goldish, you might have an antifreeze leak in the heater core.
  2. I am curious, can you describe why your 2.3 died?
  3. I started this post at the end of June 2012. I just checked my filter after 10 months. See the picture. Not terribly dirty, but it is definitely catching dirt/dust.
  4. I bought my 2009 SEL new in July of 2009. It now has 62,000 miles on it. So the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty does not apply. I think there is some sort of "rust through" warranty in place but I think they would say this does not apply "yet". Thoughts anyone?

  8. Ok, tim_ballz is correct, there is a drain plug on the FNR5 Transmissions. Here it is. I used a 5/16ths hexagon (allen) style wrench to remove it. I was on level ground and drained about 3 quarts 24 ounces of fluid. Replaced the plug and filled it back up via the dip stick. Easy to do. I plan to do it each year.
  9. I am pasting the steps and pictures below. My guess is the pictures won't show. Ok, here are my steps to adding a cabin filter to a 2009 Ford Fusion SEL. My understanding is that cabin filters were not an option on the 2006-2009 Fusions/Milans/MKZ’s. If you know otherwise, please respond. Maybe the MKZs had it. Anyhow here are the steps with pictures. On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being easy and 5 being difficult, this is in the 1 – 1.5 range. You will need: - Utility knife - Duct Tape (you’re excited now, aren’t you…) - Cabin filter that fits a 2010 Ford Fusion (I purchased the TYC 800144P Ford Fusion Replacement Cabin Air Filter from Amazon for $11.85) Step 1 - Remove all items from your glove box. Step 2 – Remove the glove box. You do this by removing the retractable cord from the right hand side. The cord is connected with a plastic clip to a slot/hole on the right-hand side. You move the clip with the cord attached and the clip/cord slide out of the hole You then squeeze the back top side inward and the glove box will open all the way. You can remove it at this point. This is very easy to do and you should be able to do it from these instructions. If not there are videos in the forum and elsewhere on the net on how to do this. It should take about 30 seconds. Step 3 – What you are going to do is use your utility knife and cut out a rectangular plastic piece from the HVAC duct behind the glove box. SCREENSHOT1 shows the area you are going to cut and where the cut will be made (in red). (** Note, I forgot to take a picture of this before I cut out the plastic piece. So I placed it back in there and took this picture. **) SCREENSHOT1 Take the utility knife and cut along the area highlighted in red. This is the toughest part. Use a sharp utility knife. You will have to go over each area about 4 or 5 times before you break through. The toughest part is the awkward angle you have to work at. Note that the plastic is not hard and brittle, it is quite flexible. SCREENSHOT2 shows the piece I cut out and how flexible it is. SCREENSHOT2 SCREENSHOT3, 4 & 5 are pictures with the plastic piece removed. SCREENSHOT3 SCREENSHOT4 SCREENSHOT5 Step 4 – Insert the cabin filter. SCREENSHOT6 shows it installed. SCREENSHOT6 Step 5 – Put tape on the plastic piece and tape it back over the hole. I laid out two pieces of duct tape about 2 inches longer than my plastic piece. I overlapped them half way the long way. I then placed the plastic piece in the middle both length and widthwise. I trimmed the two short ends so about 3/4 inch of tape was hanging off. The amount of tape hanging on the top and bottom was fine. I then centered it and stuck it in place. See SCREENSHOT7. SCREENSHOT7 Step 8 – Reinstall the glove box and you are done. Note, I have checked on it a couple times and see no signs of the tape coming loose. I live in the Midwest and it is really warm out. The AC is on all the time blowing quite hard. No issues. I keep the inside quite clean and have always noticed that my 09 Fusion gets dustier on the dash much quicker than my 09 Edge (that has a cabin filter). I have had this in for about one month, and I have noticed that there is hardly any dust. A coincident, I think not. I’ll probably replace it once a year. I will take a picture of what it looks like a year from now.</imgsrc="https:>
  10. Does anyone know what cabin filter would fit a 2009 Fusion? I do realize that the 2009s do not come with one, nor do they have a door to open to insert one. 5 minutes with a utility knife and I can now insert one. I went to a couple auto part stores and neither of them had the filter for a 2009 Mazda 6. I was thinking this might fit the best. I took pictures and will post a write-up once I have the right filter. Anyone done this?
  11. I have a 2009 SEL 2.3 liter. The driver door started rattling around 35,000 miles. Here was my easy solution. The source of the rattle is the plastic insert that holds the power window switches and is part of the door “cubby hole” you pull to close the door. This plastic insert is held by a single screw. The screw is at the bottom of the cubby hole and is usually covered by a flat rubber piece. Remove the rubber piece and remove the screw. The plastic insert will come out. The source of my rattle is that this plastic piece would rattle against the door plastic piece that it sits in. To solve it I found some thin weather stripping that was sticky on one side. I then cut it in half making it twice as thin as it was. So it was about a 1/8” inch thick. I then stuck about 6 very small pieces around where this plastic piece would touch the plastic door panel. I put the plastic piece back in and put the screw in it and tightened it. No more rattle!
  12. I have a 2009 SEL and have a rattle that sounds like it is coming from the driver's side door. I plan to remove the panel and see what I can find. Has anyone else had a rattle in the door and figured out what to tighten/tape/zip tie? My concern is I will get in there and not find it. A little direction on what others have found would be helpful.

  14. I purchased a new 2009 SEL 2.3l with the black fabric. I would really like the leather. Anybody do this? Would I have to get all new seats for the front and back or just the OEM covers and take the fabric off? Anything I need to be careful with? Airbags in the sides of each seats? What would I expect to pay for them? I checked ebay and don't see any OEMs on their now. I will check a couple local salvage yards. Anyone want fabric instead of their leather? Any comments would be helpful.
  15. I decided to not remove the plastic covering and just siphon fluid out the dipstick. According to the owner's manual, this transmission holds 7 quarts. I siphoned out 2.2 quarts and replaced it with Motorcraft FNR5 transmission fluid. Note, when you fill it back up, go slow. It overflows easily. I called a local Ford dealer and they quoted me $12.95 a quart. I called a more upscale Lincoln/Mercury/BMW dealer and they quoted me $9.32 a quart. It pays to shop. I will probably do this each year. Car has 40K miles on it.
  16. Try one of the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponges. I know they are generally targeted for harder surfaces, but I wonder if it might lighten it some. Try it first of all dry and let it crumble as you rub. Then try dampening it. With all the things you have tried, I don't think a chemical is going to help.
  17. I have a 2009 2.3l 5 speed automatic transmission Fusion. I want to change the transmission oil. There does not seem to be any firm confirmation if this thing has a drain plug or not. Anyone know? Also, if it does, is the plastic guard on the bottom difficult to remove. Note, if it doesn't, I will likely just siphon out what I can. I don't want to remove the plastic guard and find out it doesn't have one. Thanks!
  18. Simply call them. You don't need any special "deal". I call them and lock in at $75 firm. With no auto-renewal. They simply bill my credit card for $75 and I am good for a year. At renewal time I am going for $65.
  19. Folks, A couple things: 1. I ordered an exact Ford OEM replacement off of Amazon for $23 delivered. Installed it and the noise is gone. The fan is real easy to remove. Simple take out 3 screws and unplug the electrical plug and it is out. 2. I will add to what 2009fusionsport said. I tried what he/she recommended and it did not solve my problem (actually made it louder). After I replaced my fan with the new one, I looked at the old one. You will find 3 screws on the back of the fan. Remove those and the back of the fan (opposite end of the squirrel cage) comes off. You will be looking at the guts of the electric motor. Mine was dirty. I wish I had taken a piece of paper towel, sprayed with WD-40 and wiped the inside clean. Especially the motor shaft that goes through the back piece that was removed and then replaced the back piece with the 3 screws and reinstalled. I bet that would solve the problem and no cost. Anyone tried that? Did it work?
  20. Hawkeye, Did you ever buy the Continentals? How did they do in the snow? I need some good all season tires for my 2.3l 2009. The Michelin's that came with it (Pilot HX MXM4's) are not good at all in the snow. I live in Michigan and really need something better, but don't want to go to snow tires. I have not been happy with Continentals in the past on my other Ford vehicles (Taurus's).

    new Fusion panic

    I bought a new 2009 2.3 liter SEL. Likely very similar to yours. Mine came with Michelin tires and I live in Michigan. What I have noticed is mine is not that great in snow. I attribute it to two things. One, it is a bit light with just the 2.3 engine in it. But more importantly, the Michelin tires on mine are quite poor in the snow. Just looking at the tread it is obvious they are more for smooth riding on snow free roads. So I would check your tires and see how much tread you have left AND what type of tires they are.
  23. I have 2009 SEL 4cyl. Mine has the same vibration, but it only happen when it is cold. I live in Michigan and it is fine April - November. I can't tell you the exact temperature it starts at, but it is only there when it is cold. Bought the car new and this is the second winter. Car has never been taken to a dealer for any problems.
