  1. My 2010 Hybrid has about 88K miles on it and started acting up about a month ago when outside temperatures started to drop (North Carolina). Basically, the hybrid system won't shift to EV while driving unless I have my foot on the brake pedal if the temperature is in the mid-40s or below. Acts more like an Engine Start/Stop system (does go to EV at stop lights, but as soon as I ease up on the brake pedal the engine starts). Engine runs continuously and battery stays pretty much topped off; the system is using the battery during acceleration so I don't think it is a HV battery issue. Mileage has dropped about 5 mpg as a result. Took it to the dealer who, naturally, could find nothing wrong - they tried to educate me on how the hybrid system functions, but I've been driving this car since April 2009, so I sort of have it figured out. After watching a bunch of videos, I realized that the little temperature indicator (next to the engine coolant temperature indicator) that is supposed to indicate that the system is warm enough for normal hybrid operation never changes color from white to green, even when the engine is fully warmed up. I don't know if it has ever changed color, but the owner's manual says that it should change. If outside temps are in the 50s or above, the hybrid system operates normally, even though the dash sensor remains white. So it seems like the hybrid system is not sensing engine temperature properly, but I don't understand why the outside temperature matters. Thermostat issue? Some other sensor unique to hybrid systems?
  2. https://studio.youtube.com/video/6GBuvB7g8E0/edit So watch the video to understand the dilemma I'm having. So basically this, the engine temp skyrockets but ONLY when the engine has been turned off for awhile. I've taken it to my local Ford Dealer and they fixed a leaking heater hose, vacuum filled the coolant system, checked to make sure the fans turned on, checked for operation of the thermostat and so far, everything turns up good. I have basically no clue as to what is doing this. Tends to happen after some spirited driving especially driving uphill with or without the A/C on. I can go driving for a good 10 mins, stop at the store for some snacks and the temp gauge will be pegged way up there but will drop as soon as the car is started. I'll be taking it back to my local Ford Dealer for yet another inspection but does anybody have any clue what is happening. I've gotten opinions from different mechanics ranging from it's normal since the car is offf and no longer circulating coolant to "literally no clue." I'm at my wits end here.
  3. I was driving home from work tonight and the ambient temperature was correct (about 34F). Halfway home, it went up to the high 80s and never dropped below the lower 70s. My thermostat was right in the middle where it was supposed to be. After pulling in my garage, I shut it down and the cooling fan continued to run on warp speed for about 5 minutes. Has anyone else experienced this? I assumed that it must have been overheating and that made the ambient temp around the sensor read high but the thermostat gauge was still reading right in the middle. Does that sound like an electronics issue or something else? EDIT: I had it replaced about a year and a half ago because it read 50 all the time when it was 80+F outside. The previous issue read the same wrong temperature consistently. This time it was fluctuating up and down between 73 to 88. Thanks in advance for any assistance or advice!
  4. Hey all, New member to the Fusion club with some questions. I've had this 2017 Ford Fusion SE for less than a month now and just ran into my first issue. Was doing some regular city driving and the "Engine Coolant Over Temperature" alert came up. A few moments later, smoke was coming from under the hood and what looked like antifreeze, leaked out entirely. Of course, called roadside and had it taken to a dealership immediately where they inspected the car over a course of 2 days. After the service checks, the dealership was unable to find anything wrong with the vehicle, even any leaks, and said its running fine. Now I've gotten the car back, but noticed today that the temperature on the vehicle was quite high when I had it on park, photo attached. You guys think its related? Any suggestions? As you see, the car has just 400 miles on it!
  5. I have a 2015 with 3200 miles that I leased 3 months ago. Last week, the outside temp read -40 (I'm in Florida. No way.) and the A/C unit was turned off. (I'm in Florida. It's never off.) After playing with the touch screen and manual controls I realized it I turned it to max it would blow cold air. If I adjusted the temp or turned it to auto, it blew hot air. I called the dealership and took it in the next day. Of course by then the problem could not be duplicated and I took my car home the following day. Two days ago the A/C again turned itself off when I started the car. This time it didn't work at all: no air, hot or cold, on any setting or temperature. I drove straight to the dealership where they verified it was in fact not working. By the time they got it back to the tech, it was working again. They kept it overnight, and now, basically, I have been told by the dealership and customer service that there is nothing they can do until they can duplicate the issue. I get that they can't fix it when they don't know what's broken, but what am I supposed to do? Luckily I am a teacher and am on summer break, but my time and mileage is important too. Any suggestions on what I should do next? I already plan on taking it BACK in once it does it again and insisting that they look at it and not turn the car off, but I'm pretty frustrated Thoughts?
