  1. My 2010 Fusion has been making a 'grinding' noise when turning left or when accelerating from a complete stop. Turning right I never hear the noise. I have had the cv joint changed and there is no play in the wheel bearing. It gets worse in low gear when compared to drive with the same road speed. The noise goes away at high speed. On inspection I found the transmission fluid to be low, so flushed some and replaced but the noise is still there. Suspecting a problem with the differential. Any tips on diagnosis? My local garage have failed to diagnose anything feasible finding other rattles and trying to charge me for fixing.
  2. I'm kind of new here, this is my first post so I'll be straight to the point: I own a 2008 SEL 3.0L fusion with the 6-speeds transmission, in a couple of days its reaching the 100.000 k (im from south america, kilometers > Miles) so I wanted to change the transmission oil. My doubt is that on every car I had, about 100.000 k the dealer used to change oil and filter. My surprise is that my all life ford mechanic told me that this transmission was an "use until it breaks and then throw it transmission" and does not recommend me to change the oil and even better: dont change the filter because it was in the middle of it and it needed to disassemble all the transmission in order to get it change for nothing, so, it was too much work for something that it still going to get wrecked sooner or later, just wait for it and then buy a whole new transmission... So guys I'm shocked and worried because on my country a whole new transmission cost like a half or more of my salary, any advice? I need to know if this is true in order to sell what have been my best car so far.
  3. I'm curious if anyone else has run along this problem because I can't seem to find much info on the topic. My 08 Fusion SEL V6 has the six-speed awtf-80 SC auto transmission. I have around 75K on it now and it has been making a clicking/popping noise for several thousand miles when braking/accelerating at low speeds (ex. between 1st and 2nd gears) and also while shifting between any combo of P, D, or R. at a standstill. The car drives and shifts fine aside from the noise. It is very noticable when the windows or down and especially when along a structure (ex. parking garage or concrete wall). A friend works on transmissions for a living and thinks it might be the one-way clutch failing but recommended I drop the trans pan and check for metal shavings on the magnets to see if it's anything major or not. Either way, a weird issue. I have never driven the vehicle in an abusive manner (quite the opposite actually) but I did buy it used at around 35K miles. I may drop the pan someday when I have time but otherwise I don't plan to be proactive about getting it looked at/fixed...mainly because surely it will cost just as much as the repair in the event it fails or gets worse and warrants attention.
  4. Hi guys, new to the forums and new owner of a year old 2013 Fusion SE 2.0. Car has 22000 Kms on it. Car runs great shifts great, no power shortage or anything. I only have one little worry with the car. When I put it in reverse, I hear a mechanical click and the car bumps just a little. If I go from reverse back do Drive, same noise happens. Now I had the car into Ford and they said it was normal operation of the vehicle. Then I asked a co worker who is very good with cars. He is also telling me this is normal. Now, I've only ever driven this fusion. Never tested others. Is this single click noise anything to even worry about? Is it normal operation of the vehicle? You 2.0 owners, do you get this as well? Some feedback would be greatly appreciated as I want to drive my car and not worry the whole time. Thanks!
  5. I have a 07 ford fusion and have some shifting issues, for example it shifts really hard in first and second. I heard some people talk about updating the software on the transmission, anyone have a cost and experience in this area.
  6. So I just traded in my 2010 Ford Fusion SE for a Honda Accord. First time I have ever traded a car in before it was paid for. Why? Here were the problems I dealt with: Throttle Body went out at 40,000 miles. This was well before the recall. Took the dealer my receipt last month and they told me that Ford may not reimburse since I did the repair myself. Drivers side door handle broke. Both headlight connectors melted (this was with the original headlights). As many of you know, accessing the headlights for the repair was a royal pain (connectors cost $35 a piece). I think this may be another common issue. Curiously, you cannot buy the original harness any more. Ford has replaced it with something that looks much sturdier Transmission begin to "shift hard" out of park. Having read about all the transmission issues with the Fusion, this had me worried. Final straw: moon roof would not close all the way. Wind deflector bar would not drop down allowing the roof to seal. Lost all faith in the reliability of this car. Traded it in and kept my Toyota Camry that is 10 years old and has 160,000 miles on it. Probably will never touch a Ford again.
  7. 2010 Ford Fusion SE 4DR SEDAN - Automatic nearly 70,000 When it shifts, its slightly hard. Is this a Transmission Fluid issue like Autozone told me? Luckily I have a 3 year/30,000 mile warranty with my dealership. No other issues I have seen.
  8. New to this, so I didn't know how to post to diff topics.. I have an 06 SE 4cy. Bought it with 14k miles, now have a little over 145k. I've never had anything "major" happen with the car so I've been very happy with it so far. 1. A/C turns on randomly by itself. It started about 2 yrs ago. Driving down the road, the a/c just starts blowing for a few seconds then cutt off. I've gotten it looked at by 5 different mechanics. They can find nothing wrong (I've already replaced the sensor just incase). 2. 145k miles, motor has always made a ticking noise. But low and behold, can't find anything wrong. 3. My transmission feels like it's "slamming" at times. It doesn't matter if it's going into 2nd or 3rd gear. Does anyone else have these issues? Please help!!!
  9. Hey peeps, I've come across a good deal on a 2010 Fusion SEL, I think one that's a bit too good to pass up on, but I am hesitant to go through with it after all the horror stories Google seems to be able to pull up on the auto trannies in these cars. This car has 70K miles, and I am assuming it's a 2.5l i4 (but it very well could be a V6). I am test driving it tomorrow morning. I don't really care which engine it is, the 4cyl is adequate enough; to me all cars are slow anyway, I have my GSXR 750 track bike for going fast! The price is about 40% below market value, but it's never been in an accident. Of course, my gut is telling me that something could be seriously wrong with the car, and that I must be cautious. It's a private sale, company car, from a guy who's getting a new company car, and who did mostly highway mileage with it. I've attached one of the pics of the ad... where, believe it or not, you see the car at an auto-x event! I intend to get the VIN # from the seller and go to the Ford dealership to ask for a printout of all service records to see if it's been in the shop for transmission issues. What are some things I should pay careful attention to when I go drive the car tomorrow? Would you recommend that I buy a used, out-of-warranty, automatic 2010 Fusion given the track records for the transmissions? Would transmission repairs, TSBs, reflashes, etc., be paid for out of my pocket now that the car is out of warranty? I've rented a few Fusions and find them to be great cars with lots of desireable features, and I look forward to sell my 07 Civic and drive something nicer.
  10. Is it sad that I've received better advice on this forum than at Ford Auto Care? My Fusion is about a year old, and about 17,000 miles. Yes - I travel to NYC for work, so it adds up. Car is in impecable shape on the inside and outside, but perhaps not under the hood? Some things I've recently noticed: 1) My tailpipe seems to be vibrating, as I can hear a humming in the car. If I exit the car, it isn't a ridiculous rattling, but I can hear a slight difference. (Picture of my tailpipe attached - not my actual car) 2) When my car's in Cruise Control - let's say 60mph - and I begin to decline down a hill which may raise the MPH, my car's trasmission almost seems like it's overworking to stay at the set speed. It makes this awful revving sound and seems like the car is pulling. I have to Cancel the Cruise Control to stop this. In my Honda Civic, this was never the case, as the car smoothly adjusted. 3) When I go from a dead stop to accelerating, I feel like my car doesn't automatically and smoothly kick into gears. Each time it adjusts the gear, it almost does a slight, practically unnoticeable jump forward. Since I drive my car, it's noticeable to me, but apparently not to Ford. I somehow feel like the same performance indicator is the reason for #2 and #3. Anybody want to try an diagnose this from text alone so that I can mechanically explain this to Ford? Not that girls can't work on cars, but clearly - I'm not one of those girls! SOS!
  11. Just out of curiosity, Has anyone else had issues with third gear being out of sync? When I bought mine new in 2007, i noticed the banging noise slightly but ignored it thinking maybe it was just a new transmission and probably need time to loosen up. But the noise got worse until i couldn't stand it any more, and fearing my 75,000 mile drive train warranty was coming up, i decided to get it fixed. Now she floats like a dream. I was told by the Ford Certified mechanic that third gear was off mesh by about a micron or so. They ended up replacing the whole transmission gear box and gears free of charge. NICE... So has anybody else experience this, or am i just lucky enough to have gotten a brand new transmission after 70k? Its nice to have a tranny thats only 25k miles old in a five year old car. But I got stuck driving a 2009 Fuckus as a loaner. I hated that car. But then again, I'm Fusion jaded.
